I went to see it and was the only person in the theater. It was pretty awesome, the lights went down and there was 0 ambient noise that you normally have in a theater. I felt super spooked and got into it more than any movie I've seen recently.
This movie is GREAT! There’s no cons with this film. It’s dreary, gritty, violent and dreadful.. in the best of ways. We don’t get a film like this very often.
Watched this one tonight. It's effectively mature, dark and depressing without exploiting its themes, and dripping with atmosphere. There are even some jump moments that more than earn their screen time. Probably my only con would be that Jesse Plemons played his role a little too understated, with his lines coming across simultaneously measured and fragmented. But I still cared for him and was invested in the interweaving stories. Worth the two year wait.
The director of Crazy Heart, Black Mass and Hostiles does a horror movie and you know it's going to be more than just your average horror movie. Plus, it's based on the legend of the Wendigo. How often do we get any representation of such a cool monster in media? Not very often.
Don't forget Out of the Furnace. Highly underrated. Best woody Harrison and Casey Affleck performance. And Bale was a perfect protagonist. I thought it should of won academy awards
God, that shot where it was just the flashlight going off on the corpse - holy fuck my entire theater screamed. I jumped. It was incredible. The movie was amazing.
Did like the slow build up, and characters were good. My only problem is you expect more of the Wendigo monster and only get him in the end. Overall maybe a 7/10.
I thought that was the beauty of it. I love monsters and effects but it’s a Wendigo. You shouldn’t see a lot of a Wendigo. It was shown for the perfect amount of time.
More than 20 f-words are uttered. Three s-words are used, too. We also hear “d-n,” “h-,” “p-y” and “f-ggot.” God’s name is misused at least four times, once with the word “d-n.” Jesus’ name is abused about a half-dozen times.

I think it had strong characters too. As a teacher, I empathize with how this teacher cares for her students. This little town has the same kind of claustrophobic atmosphere as Santa Mira in Halloween III.
The cinematography reminded me of Verbinski’s The Ring, even the soundtrack had similarities. Acting was wonderful, only the Wonder Woman ending was disappointing.
I think Antlers is the best horror film I’ve seen this year. It was absolutely awesome. It reminded me of Pumpkinhead, being a mythology based creature feature.
Agreed 👍🏼 It was well worth the wait. I actually bought the digital version just to see it before renting. I love creature features, and this one has an intense atmosphere too. Keri Russell is such a great choice for this movie.
I don't know about this one after it was over. I might have to give a second viewing because I kept getting interrupted by phone calls while it was playing, but I agree it was very heavy with its themes and atmosphere. There were some strong performances as well, but something about how it was paced was hard to get me interested in what was happening, its a very patient story.
I went into this blind. Never saw the trailer, but I really enjoyed it. I loved the atmosphere of the whole thing. A lot of tension and good development.
The gritty aesthetic really worked well with its setting & the Wendigo mythos. Keri Russell, the kid playing Lucas & Jesse Plemons are all really good & man those practical effects were nasty. I like they left the full creature reveal till the climax & what a mean spirited ending
Finally saw this on VOD last night. I thought it was great and immediately jumps to my number 2 of 2021. The cast were all exceptional, but Jeremy T. Thomas as Lucas might be one of the best performances by a child I have ever seen. Truly remarkable.
Movie was awesome. Seen it last Thursday. A real genuine horror movie. Although it’s not perfect , I felt we needed a lil bit more depth to what the father was doing to abuse the boy, how did the little brother get sick, etc , however it was dope movie and I give it a 8.5 /10 definite recommend
This was a good one. The atmosphere and build-up was great, you cared for the characters and understood what they were going through, and the final creature design was amazing. Not to mention the ending was just heartbreaking, I almost cried watching it (you know which moment I mean). I've seen some people say that it was too mean-spirited, but the whole film was depressing and horrific, so I don't know what they were expecting. If I had anything bad to say about the film, I would say it was a bit dull in places, the editing was off in a few areas, and the monster was defeated *way* too easily. Overall, I'd give Antlers a 7.5/10. I'm not sure if its the best horror/creature-feature of the year (I liked A Quiet Place: Part 2 more, but that may change upon a few re-watches), but it's definitely one of the better ones. I can see it becoming a cult classic in the future.
"too mean spirited" ... so having a realistic ending (for a horror film) is "too mean spirited"? WHoever feels that way just shouldn't bother with good horror, they won't like it. The fact they had the guts to go through with a non "final girl" ending was the cherry on the top for me. It's one of the reasons I LOVED Jack Ketchum's novel, Off Season, because it was nihilistic and everyone dies.
Have been waiting for this one awhile.... especially;since it deals with Native American folklore! Comparison to The Ritual - a positive! Appreciate the fact it's has an appearance by Graham Greene.... enjoyed him in Dances With Wolves & Thunderheart.

Jon Cooper knows how to make a good horror movie. I would love to see him make a nightmare on Elm Street movie and an Exorcist movie. He could pull it off
Rock solid monster movie. It’s close to horror, but not quite. Regardless, Twas very effective. Finally, jump scares that work! Great practical effects and solid storytelling. Yeah, there’s some obvious flaws, but I have chosen to overlook them. A very scary, mature movie. Again, rock solid.
The story is predictable BUT everything is done so beautifully in this movie including the acting .... the CINEMATOGRAPHY ! wow ... beautiful movie to look at, the heavy fog that envelopes the town is so thick with foreboding, every scene is so atmospheric in this movie .... The pacing is slow but never boring .... And last but not least ... .... I notice the ending title sequence and music must have inspired the opening sequence for the TV series The Last of Us, which is also very beautifully shot atmospheric ... this movie probably served as an inspiration for the style of that series....
Thank you for this review w/o the spoilers. I was preparing myself with this one b/c I know it was hinting at child abuse & seeing those little boys (any kid for that matter) in such terror always messes me up. I will definitely make some time to see this.
I personally didn't like this. No hate. I just simply found it boring and near the end. They could have used more lighting (more natural light from like the moon or something.) Maybe a few street lamps too yknow. Overall for me, like a 6/10.

That's what I was thinking. I hope when the DVD comes out they have a director's cut on it, it seems like stuff was cut for theater run time and there was meant to be more on there.
Lol I did a TikTok review with most of the same views, I was still a little disappointed they took the bastardization version of the Wendigo but it was good none the less. Glad you liked it.
I love this movie and easily my favorite of the year so far. There wasn’t one thing in this movie I didn’t love. I can not wait to watch it again. Phenomenal film.
Just watched this over the weekend, excellent atmospheric slow burn horror film. Practical effects are top notch. Great acting from the child actor. This kinda reminds me of the 90s The Relic. Hope this will do well in this coming week.
Do you actually get a good look at the dad and little son Wendigo? I loved the story the quiet boy. The description of the wendigo in the story is horrific.
Such a great movie I loved it. I enjoyed loved the short story that is based on "The Quiet Boy" by Nick Antosca. I enjoyed how dark the film it is. I waiting for the Blu-ray when it comes out.

The movie is about generational trauma. The sins of the elders visited on the children. It's heartbreaking to watch as the parents with their drug use and poverty send the kids down a spiral ..... it's a hard watch. Great movie but I doubt with it being so depressing I can watch it again.
I only have one issue with the movie, and that's the monster, I loved the concept they were running with at the beginning where the dad was an emaciated cannibalistic monster. I enjoy the movie no doubt, but the way they took the monster confused and somewhat annoyed me because of the way the monster has been portrayed. Along with the fact that it was like metamorphosis, for some reason I didn't care for it as much.
@DrumDums I knew that it was about the Native American legend The Wendigo hence the title Antlers and a little boy feeding something in his home, I wasn’t sure what though whether it was the wendigo itself or the movie had other creatures they were keeping out of the marketing or what. I only saw the teaser and the first trailer that announced what the creature was aka The Wendigo I stayed away from the final trailer as I feel like the first trailer already gave too much away by simply giving away what the creature of the movie was and I didn’t want to watch the final trailer and risk ruining what The Wendigo looked like or anything like that because, other then knowing what the creature was I wanted to go in blind and have the story unfold in front of me for the first time in the theater. Which will be in about two weeks time with my friend David on the 20th of this month that Saturday, I wanted to go see it with my parents for Halloween yesterday but, they are both wimps when it comes to monster movies especially gory ones so, I drag my friend to them with me a lot who will willingly see them with me and not object. Even though he’s not a huge fan of the horror genre he still goes to see them with me a lot and we both end up enjoying the ones we do see together.
I loved this movie the only thing that didn't connect was the abuse part. It really didn't serve a purpose in the film though it was very touching. You could take it out & it wouldn't change the movie. (Original date was April 17th). Yes its Oregon 😊 acting phenomenal Lucas was great.
I probably spoiled it for myself by watching so many reviews and trailers haha but I enjoyed it, could have had more of the folklore and supernatural element but it was good.
Dang man. Now that October is over I'm going to be hard pressed to convince my wife to watch another horror movie with me. Yikes, I guess I'll need to watch another season of some period piece she likes to make up for it! Cheers!
