There's a special bond between musicians and their instruments, and most have stories of how they first met and fell in love with theirs. Violist Antoine Tamestit plays a Stradivarius viola - in fact, the first Stradivarius made in 1672, and in this video give us a tour of this beautiful instrument and tells us how he nearly gave up on it...
Filmed, edited, produced and directed by LSO.

It's amazing how well he expresses himself in English. He probably speaks other languages perfectly, too. He's not only a talented violist but a linguist, too. He's French, but I would love to know what kind of name Tamestit is. Does anyone know? That is one beautiful viola! Sept. 2nd, 2021, Burlington ON Canada.

Assuming this is the instrument he used in the recording of Walton's concerto with the Frankfurt R.S.O. it certainly does have a superb tone.

Yeah and also I got it at kagin and Gaines music store and I was considering trading it for another viola and I’m glad I didn’t! The owner said there was something wrong with the back with the sound posts or something which is why my dad didn’t buy it but financing it. Interesting.

Hello - it's most likely that your instrument is a copy of a Strad rather than a real one. There were lots made with these "fake" labels. Have a read of this article: www.benningviolins.com/the-stradivarius-violin-label-what-it-means.html. It's quite unlikely that an Strad unknown to collectors would be out there, especially as you say it was made in the Czech Republic: Stradivarius worked exclusively in Cremona. BUT don't be disappointed. You say that you have been through a lot together and it never lets you down. That's the most important thing. Antoine's instrument is magnificent and valuable, but ultimately he plays it because he really feels a connection to it. If you have a connection to your instrument, then you will play well on it and it will sound fabulous for you. Good luck and enjoy!

Hi!!! I think I have the second viola....it’s a Antonius Stradiuarius Cremononensis Faciebat Anno 1727 or is it 1724 it is warn out I can’t really tell and it has the cross symbol stamp under the word Cremonensis. Can I send you a picture? I’ve played on it since high school and what you said is EXACTLY how I feel. Also one of my conductors in Harper Symphony told me he has the same viola name. His name is Brian Grooner. And this viola my most prized possession and I have been through a lot together in multiple orchestras...it never lets me down. I’ve made all the auditions with this since I was getting no where with a factory made in China violin. What do you think?

Interesting but why talk so much about sound instead of giving us a sound sample.
