This was the best I Am Athlete episode hands down. Antoine, thank you for your transparency and vulnerability. I hope it saves a lot of people in our community from that same heartbreak. Regarding Black history, I think it’s important to not knock our history or wrap it up as all being trauma and/or survival. I think part of the problem is many of us, America as a whole, don’t know the fullness of our history. It has been whitewashed. So, before we go the Black future route, let’s learn about our real history, heroes and sheroes. It wasn’t all struggle. There has been a lot of triumph, excellence and thriving done by our people. Great show, and keep pushing, B. Marsh!

ain't gon lie, it's hard to connect with this it takes wealth to make wealth to this extent in the vast majority of cases (for people who say "you can do it if you get off your ass", y'all need to realize how you're using survivorship bias when you think of the positive examples--because many people who do work sufficiently hard & smart (if not more so than the "successful" ones), simply will not reap the benefits in a way that gives them a reasonable chance to make multiple millions, much less 100 million probabilistically this is just incredible unlucky in most people's cases (not saying that you can't build above simply financial sustenance without being inherently good at sports, or lucky to have gotten exposure through another means: music, comedy, etc., but we have to be more honest about hustle culture--think about how many people do their absolute best and will need help regardless)

DJ is right. Nothing wrong with relaxing, and unwinding. All work will destroy you. Not everyone has the mental bandwidth to work their ass off then go study to know everything about finance. That's not realistic. As a child of immigrants your mindset is totally different even growing up in the same places as poor Americans. Less hang ups and a different type of perseverance. Financial institutions just want your cake. Wait till you are bored and your mind isn't being pulled in a million directions. School teaching dumb shit like the Pythagorean theorem instead of real life stuff.

Good episode…I still remember the first time Wale came on he spoke on how when young black athletes get to league instead of the money going forward it goes backwards to help the parents and uncles etc. as to other races the money continues to go forward majority of the time

This was an excellent episode. I felt a lot of what was said. Even though I'm not an athlete, there's a lot I can take away for my own personal journey.

Unfortunately, you not being financially literate is not the fault of financial institutions, or your family, or the NBA, or the NFL. Brandon is right, Its called education and the WILL to want to learn. If at the end you are broke after you have worked for all this money. Its on you, all these basic terms like, ROI, Basis points (fancy financial talk for a fraction of a percent), PV, FV, rule of 72, 4 % rule, debt service, nominal, real, realized, capital gains, compound, depreciation. I mean you can go on and on. There is a reason for all of this. The US educational system is designed in a way so that you are NOT financially literate by the time you graduate high school. So at 18 you can get a credit card and not know what 18.99% APR is? its a country of consumption. While in several countries finance classes is a part of there curriculum. The US does not teach you the importance of a credit score and how in the long term you will save on interest if you finance the two largest purchases of your life (home and car). With all the content FREE on youtube you do not even need to pay for these classes. Instead of being on social media "flexing" and spending hours scrolling, youtube the above basic terms and you will be more financially literate than you were yesterday and you will find out how much you got F*** for so long. Google an "amortization schedule" type in your terms and take a look at the breakdown of your monthly mortgage. Maybe this will motivate you to pay more toward your principle and own and perhaps have some financial freedom. I am bored at work and I had time today!

B Marsh and squad, considering this is a HUGE issue with athletes especially for minorities, is there a financially literate former athlete that will spearhead such a project with a respected institution/group of finance guys/women that will force young guys and old heads to learn some financial literacy? I would be so on board with that and would love to see you or others push for that

To answer one of Walkers question. The reason why people can't have nothing together is because of GREED. People can have something going really good but always thinking they're bigger than the next....

@@ogflowers1578 Actually I think it's the opposite, you have it backwards. They made a bad decision by not investing their money and they want to blame him for it. Then when the money started coming in a year later they want to speak on ownership and yell "but friendship" and "we started together". Yeah but Bmarsh had to take all the risk. Antoine is saying Everyone put their MONEY together and do this. They declined to do it.
