This is one PHAT drum especially tuned low with that 6 ply maple shell, wooden hoops really add to the warmth but also the size pushing the 14' diameter to 15" with the 19 ply hoops.
I loved this drum when it's tuned low as it sounds like a baseball bat to a meat pie especially with that coated Evans G1....SPHLAAAAAAAT!
Gear:
DW 16x14 Floor Tom, bit of a change.
DW 22x20 (here comes the boom) Collectors Exotic, Evans clear EMAD and Resonant batter head.
Meinl 14" Benny Greb Sand series hats
Evans UV1
Room: 320sqm concrete factory.
Sticks: Pro Mark Todd Sucherman Signature Model

I love this drum... i had one and sold it, and regret it now since they are no longer made. finding a used one is difficult and you do pay, but i am about ready to pull the trigger. of all the snares i have owned this is my favorite

I got the Gibraltar wood hoops (80?) And put them on a cherry/bubinga 7x14 pork pie. Nice difference from the flanged and die cast. Good presentation

Now that’s a good idea, love Bubinga.

Yes, excellent. I've had mine for almost 20 years and it pairs so richly with my little Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute kit. I usually go for med - high tuning and can't get enough of those woody cracks on the accents and the amount of body that still comes through on ghost notes. Yes my batter side hoop has the slightest little section of the outside ply splintering off right at one of the tension rod holes, a bit worried about that. The other issue is I've in the past year broken about 3 of the swivel nuts inside the lug casings (basically the hex end that keeps the whole nut from spinning with the tension rod breaks off). I ordered a bunch of generic Yamaha swivel nuts to replace them, but lo and behold the replacements have slightly smaller hex ends so they too can spin in place. I actually reached out to Anton himself if he had any ideas since even the Yamaha US parts website is a neglected mess. In the meantime I jammed little metal tab shaped pieces from hanging brackets to hold the smaller nuts in place. Just desparate to do what I can to keep this drum useable!

Oh man that sucks and I do feel your pain, here in Australia spares are a rarity. The only option I can think is going through places like Pro Drum in Hollywood, i think your best best is to get the whole lug assembly. I rarely play these drums now just due to the spare parts issue.

I feel your pain I broke a wood hoop (in the place) and still have not replaced it. They are not reliable, but sound great! I use the bottom hoop occasionally on top if I need that sound! But mostly it's die cast hoops!

I've had this snare for about 19 years, and it's been used a lot. the hoops still the same, the top one has worn out, of course, but I can't say it's unreliable (unless you deliberately break it or drop it).

I busted one after two years of non stop playing, now when I use it I use an aftermarket wooden hoop.

I have two wood hoop snare drums ,One from PDP and another retrofit Yamaha sensitive series. Paid US $30 bucks for the yammie hoops used a few years ago. My guess is that today using a Au dollar it would be more than the cost of a new snare. Their aluminum die cast are just outrageous these days.
@IAMDRUMMER
@IAMDRUMMER Год назад
I broke one and waited 2 years for a replacement pair (could f but just the one top hoop) but I have seen just snare hoops sell for about $450 for a pair. I stopped playing the drum until I get an alternative.

I’ve been using it as a deep snare as well! It sounds sublime!

When I get it out I tune it low and fat as a second snare....it's a brilliant drum that I thought would have been more popular.

Great demo there my friend! Anton played here in Thunder Bay not long ago with Joe Bonamassa - great show! Our buddy Ronn Dunnett (w/Gibralter) has a wood/ metal hybrid hoop offering which may be a favourable alternative for some.

@IAMDRUMMER
@IAMDRUMMER 6 лет назад
Matthew Paluch It's the one thing I love yet loathe on this drum. The hoops really make the sound a special one but you risk detonation with wood chips flying everywhere....ok not really but you know the feeling.

David Letterman had Soul Asylum as the musical guest on his show with their then drummer, Sterling Campbell, on the drums. Sterling was using an Ayotte kit for the gig and Anton loved his snare sound. Sterling's Ayotte kit was made with wood hoops. Anton had complimented Sterling on his snare sound. Sterling had his Ayotte rep send Anton a snare. Anton wanted to hear what it what it would sound like with his Yamaha kit on the show. Anton was hoping that his Yamaha rep wouldn't see the drum thinking it wouldn't be visible in any of the camera views. To Anton's embarrassment, a Yamaha Anton Fig Yamaha signature snare showed up on his doorstep! I think this was the gig: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ei5j-DvqDtI.html

Wow ... what a phat sounding snare. Even tuned up high it still sounds big. Great snare. Any thoughts on the relatively new UV1 drum heads for use on the snare. I know that you prefer the G1 on the snare batter side ... as do I, with a little muffling.

Just suggest your can show like bearing edge ,throw off , snare wire those parts zoom in detail and almost every video test snare sound the revreb too more , like you use room mic to record not close mic by the way you show in some rare snare on the internet is hard to find information Good job!
@IAMDRUMMER
@IAMDRUMMER 6 лет назад
Chih Wei Yang Love to add more detail when time permits but I love hearing your feedback and I think you might be on to something. Still learning on what we should show and shouldn't so we can keep the videos under a certain time frame of around 10 minutes. At the moment the room is a 320sm factory so room mic sound HUUUUUUUGE and shows little detail but we are working on that.
@mcsequoia5107
@mcsequoia5107 6 лет назад
Even if you don't show those details you can certainly talk about them. The low tuning & cross-stick is mostly where it's at for me w. this drum. The high tuning is pretty sweet too for lighter, tighter, faster stuff like Jazz. The mid tuning had too much metallic overtones for me. It feels like nails scratching a chalkboard.
