About a year ago I finally tried the Vibra-fibe process on my Ludwig’s. I was hesitant about doing it because I didn’t want to change the look of the inner shells of my kit. It has completely changed the projection and tonality of my kit. Personally I’ve never gotten the sound I wanted from a coated head with the exception of my snare. The coated heads kill the natural overtones of my drums so I’ve never liked them. Other drummers swear by them but I’m just not one of them.
Would you happen to know if the DW True Cast bronze hoops would fit on the Zildjian 400 snare? I own the Zildjian 400 snare and love it. I am considering adding DW true cast hoops. However, concerned that the outside diameter of the Zildjian is greater than the nominal DW true cast hoops size. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks for all the great content.
The higher tuning is my preferred choice but all these limited edition type snares are just gimmicks. When the DW Romanian River Oak kit came out I bought one. It’s a beautifully crafted kit buuuut so are my 90’s era Ludwig Super Classics. If you were to get 3 medium priced snares with 3 expensive AF snares and then put a blindfold on nobody would be able to tell the difference. These are all just a way of these drum manufacturers to get people to spend their money by making them think they’re getting something that’s going to sound amazing but it sounds just like any other well made drum.
I just took mine out of its case and it’s turned blotchy, only played it twice and handled with the supplied gloves, stored in the studio in its case and it does this, are you aware of this and maybe you should check yours.
Ok I just checked and sadly yes it is looking a little odd, streaks and some blotches in areas and the shell does appear to be darker. Mine is stored in it's case also in a temperature controlled environment.
I had the same issue with my Gretsch USA Customs and Remo heads. Just too tight around the collar. That’s why I tried the Aquarian Textured Coated. Fit perfectly and sound surprisingly good.
Years ago I bought a Pearl free floater but didn't use it much. I realized that the leaver (throw) at the side that controls the snare doesn't work. In other words, the snare is always ON even though I try turning it off. Shouldn't the snare be turned off if I shift the leaver either to the right or left? (the leaver doesn't shift up and down but RIGHT to LEFT). Do you know if the snare being constantly on is a feature or there is a defect?
@IAMDRUMMER It was a bit of a reach but I do try. But before I switched I did use Vintage Emperors. They were the pick of the bunch imo. Having a general idea of the sounds you go for I think you'll like the Vintage line. And a bd head shoot out would be cool.... if only to further prove the superiority of Evans heads 🙃
We all need a good laugh at times. I have used the Vintage Emperors years ago and they did feel pretty nice and yes the shootout will be interesting as I have never played a Superkick 2 head before.
@@IAMDRUMMER They sound good too. I just had issues with their consistency. I'd love to hear the Super Kick up against the Emad. I always go with the Emad cause I'm familiar with it and know what I'm getting but the Super Kick is a head I've flirted with trying in the past.... It always sounds good in demos. I'd be keen to hear your take in a shootout for sure.
Consider it done, if you are like me I also like the way a head feels, the Remo PS3 is like a firm pillow with personality in it's tone but the EMAD has the punch and balls I love in a kick sound....this will be very interesting.
That or the classic series has a different fit, my local shop sees this all the time on all kits with all head brands so I will take in the 12" when I can and tru some of the classic and vintage series of heads.
Ahhh yes I see what you mean, I guess if it wasn’t such an expensive kit and was being covered up with the hoops then it would be ok, but yeah not something I would risk on this kit.
How about a comparison between the ProMark Todd Sucherman stick, and the Vater Sugar Maple 5B. I personally think that they are very close. The differences are a bit subtle, and the Vaters are much more economical as well. Im curious to see what you think about them.

Thank brother I really appreciate the kind words and had no idea he used 17's, that is a massive set of hats but I you could never miss them even if you tried.
The yellow Aquarian Vintage heads will fit perfect with the 50th anniversary set ;) Vintage Medium top and bottom or Deep Vintage top and Vintage Medium bottom. Plus the coating is indestructible.
@@IAMDRUMMERI’ve dipped my toe back into the Aquarian pool recently and I’ve been very happy with the results. Response 2 tom heads are incredibly responsive and easy to tune. Super Kick 2 is one of the most famous kick heads for a reason and the Texture Coated /w Dot is a delightful take on the classic CS Coated. Highly recommend giving them a go!😊

You have great balance, meter, and use of dynamics in your playing brother. So, while I think equipment/gear can obviously make a difference, I really think that a large part our sound/feel is our individual technique, style, idiosyncrasies, and how we "self-mix" ourselves on the kit. And, I think it's cool that you're using this as a chance to try/experiment with other drum gear. You're a class act, my friend 👍💯🙂🥁.
The acetone will definitely work, I fitted two brand new powerstroke 3s to my bass drums last week. Took a lot longer than usual to get the logo off (they’ve changed the ink) but it came off fine in the end.
