A reliable off the bench player that can play multiple positions, good defender, can create his own shots, and make lots of steals and good rebounder. Was a great glued guy for the Zags.

C's have always sought intelligent play, way back in the 60's to now....

I agree, Matt. Watching his film--he looks like a skilled and intelligent player. I don't usually get too excited for draft picks, but the eye test tells me he has potential. I think he will fit the Celtic's system very well. The big adjustment for players coming into the NBA is the jump in talent and athleticism/speed of the game. Aton looks very calm and precise in his playmaking, so I believe he will make the adjustment.

Not ripping it. I hope that he turns out to be the stud that you guys think he will be. But I’m just pointing out that this isn’t exactly his “film”. It’s a highlight package. If you’re gonna talk the guy up you’ve gotta look at his low lights too and get the whole picture. Looking at and breaking down his negative traits will tell you why he wasn’t drafted higher. I’d be really interested in a video that showed both sides of the story because finding a players faults can show you what he needs to improve upon in order to reach the peaks he strides to achieve.

Anton watson is why i'm not extremely nervous about possibly losing 3 of our bigs to free agency. Potentially, hes the better fit compared to those 3 bigs for the celtics system: 1. makes the right reads and can make plays of the short roll 2. Shoots 3s at a good percentage 3. Can defend in space Those are the top 3 things the celtics want from their bigs. The 3 celtics depth bigs either hit 1 or none of those 3. This is why we're rumored to be bringing in theis. We need bigs who are closer to being al horford clones and anton watson has the closest skillset to Al. Hes not the al horford replacement but for sure hes the future 3rd big.

He averaged half a 3 pointer per game; that's not enough to even mention. We're overstating his defense because of Brad's comments. I watched him get cooked all season long and he had 3 games over 20 points all of last season. At best, he's Jajuan Johnson.
@TheRobversion1
@TheRobversion1 22 дня назад
@@icecreamheadache7165 possibly but hes a rookie and still young enough to develop. what people are high on is the potential aspect (the tools are there). not the actual performance. how fast will he develop? he'll most likely not be ready this season. but maybe he can pull off a lively. or an avery bradley. havent heard anything thing bad about his work ethic. we're not looking for points. we're looking for a guy who can make a 3 (thus maintain spacing), can switch on defense and can make quick reads/passes off the short roll/as DHO hub. he has shown potential for that. half a 3pointer per game sure doesnt paint his 3 pointer in a good light but he made them at a high percentage. others who have the same attempts shot horribly. so again potential.

@TheRobversion1
@TheRobversion1 22 дня назад
@@Nimr187 he doesnt have the playmaking chops/handle of a 3. he's a 4 or small ball 5 in the mold of an al horford. thats his most common comp as per most scouting reports.
@Nimr187
@Nimr187 22 дня назад
@@TheRobversion1 Would the Celtics want him handling the ball? Surely he's a complementary piece, a floor spacer, board crasher, 3 & D development project. I get the small ball 5, but Al is a rare player and much more than that, so I don't like that comparison.

Yeah I like the pick a lot. Can't always go by draft position, Joker was a 2nd rounder. He's gotta take that 3 though. The Celtics whole game is spacing to generate open 3 pointers. He didn't have anyone within shouting distance on that 2nd clip, and he passed it up. Now it could be how he was coached, maybe the coach wanted them to go for high percentage shots in the paint. In the NBA though, and especially on the Celtics, you gotta take that shot.
@calmlittlebuddy3721
@calmlittlebuddy3721 22 дня назад
Good college player, solid in most areas. I watched his highlights. He's active. He has some court sense, but looks like he's a half step too slow for the NBA at the 3, even the 4 and is undersized for the 5. Let's see how he looks in Maine vs better competition. You gotta be really special to overcome those physical limitations at the highest levels. Unfortunately, two things don't trend upward after age 24 are speed and height. At best they stay level. Just think they're gonna eat him up at both ends if he's asked to play minutes during important stretches.

I don't think your crazy, I think you're right. He has the ability to defend 2-5, that's huge, defends perimeter. I worry about the 3s. We'll see about 3s in summer league. Age probably dropped him to 54. I like the free agent also
@Nimr187
@Nimr187 22 дня назад
The Celtics have enough on-ball players. They need complementary off-ball players to provide space, sneak into scoring positions while the Jay's are doubled, and crash the boards - with some seasoning, Watson fits the bill.

Anton not shooting when on the perimeter has very little to do with his confidence. Gonzaga has had the most efficient offense in the country almost every season over the last decade, so Anton was always playing within the offense coach Few runs, which is not the "let it fly" for three, 40 times a game type of offense...at least not when they're playing well. So obviously in the NBA, he'll have ample opportunity to show his range and let 'em fly. Go Zags! Go C's! 🍀

The Celtics bench is gonna need a few guys. Scheierman and Watson fit the bill. Brissett and Queta won't be back. Kornet is probably gone. That's 3 guys right there. Scheierman gives me a Tyler hero vibe. I like Watson from what I've seen on tape. Sneaky good. Good program

He was drafted late because he’s old, so most teams are thinking “who will be the best player in five years when we actually have a chance?” So they want a 19-21 year old
@kimwonik
@kimwonik 22 дня назад
the way I see it, we just need a legit back-up behind KP(who’s always hurt) and Horford(too old), and he can definitely be that. Plus he will have time and opportunities to develop and learn.

He was drafted late, like Baylor because of his age. They are both 23, 24. Most teams like young players. The Celtics these days don't mind, so they get steals and value.

I like Watson, we will see… I like Walsh too, I’m interested in scheirman. But Walsh and Watson could be good defensive wings, I like defense. Also springer is clamps man he just needs to tighten it up and put together some sort of offense. Phew springer, a bigger Walsh, and if Watson develops well, JB, jt, Jrue, White, Al, kp, damn the defensive capabilities are almost limitless if these younger guys can put together some sort of offense and Walsh can bulk up. Walsh has been shooting a 36% clip from deep in the g league on a decent volume. I wish jd could bulk up but he just looks so scrawny in the nba, in the g league he looks fine but for the nba he needs more mass. So I don’t see jd coming back

I live right outside of Spokane around a lot of Zags fans. They all seem to be high on him and think the Celtics got a steal. General consensus is he's a coachable guy with a strong build. Given the right coaching/system he could be a great role player. We will see if he gets playing time!

This dude is going to be 24 (!) in October. Get a grip, you people. He was stuck in college for FIVE years during the Pandemic Era. This player has zero additional ceiling, so it is hard to get excited about his being anything other than a garbage time player/cheerleader at the very end of the bench in preparation for moving overseas. His *college* 3P% is even more deceptive since he takes so few with careful shot selection. That's like saying Aron Baynes and Amir Johnson were good 3 point shooters with the Cs... Pure Green Teamer bait. He is *not* the next Al Horford or anything close to it. Doesn't even have the overall length. Legit, versatile stretch 4s/bigs are in high demand relative to supply, so there's a reason everyone passed on him. Jeezus...
