China had a great opportunity to wrestle more of the global economy towards itself but post-COVID the sands are shifting. It’s not that everyone will stop trade with China, but they are trying to grow business elsewhere and depend less on China. Supply chain disruptions caused chaos during COVID. China right now is a big rising power that is only too happy to abuse its might and take advantage of other smaller states, exactly like the United States everyone likes to chastise. The Philippines is one example. They were long time US supporters, switched to China only briefly, and now firmly back to supporting the US as a consequence of China’s South China Sea illegal territory grabbing.
