absolutely true. Since child I heard about all the great film makers from bengal and tried to explore it being a non bengali. I'm a telugu. Telugu movies are over the top, mass masala movies and an art movie coming from here has zero probability. But I believe that there is a decent representation of all the people in telugu movies - but still very lower when compared to Tamil and Malayalam. However, elitism, nostalgia and typical story lines related to loneliness, sexual "deviancies", etc are NOT covered. Then I lived in Bengal for a few years. The kind of movies that are being enjoyed in non kolkota (towns etc) is compleltey different from kind of movies that is being projected as "bengali cinema". It all boils down to lack of self reflection among bengali upper castes. They think that that they are aloof from caste, privilege and well studied about equality -being the intellectual fountain of later communism and now Didi-ism, but reality is quite the opposite.

For example, if we were isolated like Tamil Nadu, it would be a different story. There are some realities which is also tied to Indian constitution which made Bengal into a union of states with freedom of movement and one person one vote to a country where Hindi was the most spoken. Then the Islamic demographics of non Indian/Hindu Bengali culture which the Bangla industry portray. Then the history of mass migration after partition where Hindus came or had to come but Muslims could stay increasing the population density further and lowering of economy which was a factor in rising of communism. What I mean to say, either you have to make a bloody fight or a long sustained fight for this. But for the latter, you need to first make Bengalis understand that the situation of Bengal is not entirely fault of the Bengalis themselves like these "intellectuals" claim in this video and many claim outside the video. Yes Bengalis have to make an effort themselves as I said and had made bad decisions. But first increase the confidence of Bengalis that the situation of Bengal and the industries including film industry is not due to them alone. This will give them confidence and also if they know the reality, they will understand what to do about it better. Another thing is, one particular director said in India Today conclave, that make Bengali filmmakers realise the situation and be on war footing. One example of what we can do, to improve the economy is to have a Bengali centric political party or maybe Bengali anti radical Islamist political party which would give a lot of votes and some respect from non Bengalis as well like what Shiv Sena do for Marathis. Then multiplexes and film industry will be bound to cater to Bangla and some laws will be passed like what Karnataka is doing. If not politics , we can support through lobbying, maybe Bangla Pokkho whom I don't agree with entirely. Share the videos where Bangla Pokkho is confronting the fake domecile holders giving exams in Bengal, doing micchils for Bengal's causes, try to organise a micchil for handing tenders to Bengalis, etc. Increase capital and be capitalistic so that economy is improved quickly and then Bangla film industry will also have Bengali great producers and Bengali small districts from Jalpaiguri to Jhargram will have cinema halls like what happens in South and Bengalis will have money to watch them. My entire comment is that it's a complicated issue and in some cases, it's unfortunate and some issues may never get stopped but one can work around those issues. But first one needs to know those factors. That's what intellectuals and Bengali media do not say. Maybe they are ignorant or are afraid of truth. Comment Kora joruri. I think you do not get the point or understand what a critic is supposed to be. Your view on critics is what every person intolerant to criticism in every field share. Take sports for example. You do not need to have a stellar career to be a good critic or coach. Were Alex Ferguson or Jose Mourinho world renowned players at their respective times? No. But that didn't stop them from becoming great coaches/critics. What career did someone like Harsha Bhogle have in cricket? And lastly, knowledge is acquired over time. How can you dismiss someone so casually saying that person has no knowledge? Certainly, it can't be true that only a handful of people have all the knowledge in the world.

RRR is Telugu. The industry which was always on top with Tamil cinema. Our Kannada industry has always catered Kannada audience with no dearth of stars all the time. Just that from 2000's we suffered originality crisis. Our state has great talent all the time when it came to cinema. As the new generation started coming up with original content, we are seeing growth in the industry. See how Tamil cinema is silent nowadays. Happens with all of the industry for some time. Karnataka has very rich culture and literature history, but when we dwell only on past fashion, we close our eyes to future. As the world grows, we must generate content that makes sense to newer generation. I think it's happening in kannada industry with new movies (which outsiders don't hear about) but it's still restrained. There's no radical movements. Tamil and Malayalam cinema has great strength which they can use to transform society. I don't see that in our cinema industry as it's very traditional. Not really a open to new ideas society. Hindi cinema is the best one if one wants to see new ideas in the cinema. It has that power.
