I've been listening to Anvil since '85 and am tired of seeing people like Grohl, Ulrich, Slash, or Scott Ian talking about how great they are... IF THEYRE SO IMPORTANT TO YOU, HOW ABOUT TAKING THEM OUT ON TOUR WITH YOUR BANDS??
Loved these guys from the time I first heard them in the mid 80s. They were one of the bands that got me into metal in the first place. The real honour happened a couple of years ago when not only I had the chance to see them live, but had the opportunity to have my band open for them and Joey Belladonna. It was truly an evening to remember. Thanks for doing what you did Anvil. You finally got the recognition you deserved all these years.
@Owneador1337 see the movie, and some interviews from lips, he said that he could leave Canada, but never wanted that, that´s why they are not one of the best
saw them live in a club in kelowna bc. it was awesome. came and played right in the middle of the people. a true canadian legend no matter what anyone else says. these guys have all the heart and love in the world for their fans and what they do. ROCK ON ANVIL \w/
Only guys from 80's era can understand ANVIL. HEAVY METAL is much more that blowing a million of notes in 1 second... it's feeling, it's something from within our soul... BTW ROBB and LIPS are examples of life!
I love how he's metal out the ass but does it with a smile on his face. Dude just loves the music he creates and that's how it should be. LONG LIVE ANVIL!!
This is so great. We are so lucky they are still around, and we are lucky to be able to see them. Now they are coming on tour to Amytiville, Long Island.

Here in 2022 after the resurrection release of this movie... Still looking forward to seeing it. My whole school career was spent drawing band logos on notebooks, and "anVil" was one of them, though I don't think I ever heard them until today.
I watched the movie when it first came out, and I actually heard of them before I saw it. Also I'm well aware that not many metal bands tour arena's anymore; because most metal heads today don't really listen to classic metal, and the one's that do are scattered around the U.S. Also their first three albums kicked ass from 81-83, and I'm sure the reason they didn't become huge is because they waited four years after Forged In Fire to release another album; and they weren't promoted right.
I agree about another guitarist...wouldnt be so thin..imagine those riffs using 2 guitars, emg pickups through mesa boogie triple rectifiers....actually play it in drop D...would be sick..
This is the great thing about heavy metal, you can be as awful and corny as you want and play songs that you wrote in your notebook in class when you were 14 and people will still think you're awesome. Gotta admire their passion though.
LIPS get back ur 2nd Guitarist. this song was written in the '80s with 2 Guitar players. How can u play MARCH OF THE CRABS all alone dude. Come on Man. KEEP IT REAL !! ROBB REINER best Double Bass Drummer :)
Tanya Murphy theye had one but he quit the band it sounds so much better with a second guitarist especially with there style of music Or the bassist needs to use a distortion
Power trio means u only gotta split the cash 3 ways, and probably only 2 and hire the bassist. Smart way to keep the group as profitable as possible. And to be honest, at this point, the people that r gonna come out to see them live r gonna come out no matter how they sound. Take a look at the stones...terrible live, but hey it's the stones, so who cares right?
Yeah Lars Ulrich told me the full story of that incident when I met him backstage after the 1st 1993 Metallica gig in Melbourne. I used to run the Budgie Fan Club and I gave him various fanzines and live Budgie bootlegs. He was certainly a big fan more so than the other guys! It wasn't actually on the Justice tour it was in 1987 (about the time that Budgie called it quits the first time... their last gig was in May 1988 before the reunion in 1995!). A Metallica show with Budgie as support nice..
with anvil it's like this...my hat is off to them just normal guys that got together because they love music and had a dream to be a big band and even though it was a long hard road and they got just kicked in the nuts at every turn they stuck it out and you have to respect them for that most would have just said "F"-this a long time ago .......they had a dream and they have overcome a river of shit to make it happen ....GO ANVIL!
Saw them live in a local bar last month. They rocked but you could tell they should have been playing a much larger venue! Their sound is way too much for a basement setting. But you know - just the same it was awesome that they would play, on a Wednesday evening for the people that did turn out! I'm proud that I come from the same province as Anvil!
actually back in the day I bought their stuff, i remember my older brother was showing his buddy my hard 'n' heavy tape and told him " look at what these guys are listening to" he had a funny laff, so i told him its not about the 1 eyed monster, but the music, maaaaan we laffed.
anvil was a 4 piece orginally. they need that second guitar. lame without the rhythm guitar backing up the lead. Time to hand over the lead vocals to someone who can sing
My band opened for these guys on their recent Hope in Hell world tour. Real nice, cool guys. Check us out: facebook.com/reapersriddle?fref=ts ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tdVwbQtVec8.html
from the liner notes of Metallica's 'Garage Inc.' Album: "Not as amusing was the night Metallica met Burke Shelley in Cardiff on the Justice tour. He was employed at the venue as a stage hand. 'Then to add injury to insult,' says Ulrich, 'his fingers got caught in a roadcase on the loadout. I think he broke his thumb.'"
Couple quick clips of men in business suits in the audience and their high class women enjoying metal on metal a bit more than they probably expected xD
You must've just finished watching the movie! By the way, in case you've noticed, not many "Heavy Metal bands" tour "arenas" anymore. It's no longer the 80's, unfortunately. It's not very hard seeing/hearing, why Anvil never made it big. Is it a good story? Sure! But, good stories don't always equal success.
They're cheesy as all hell and their songs are 90% meta songs (songs about the genre they play). It's probably the reason they didn't cling on particularly well and they fell into obscurity. I for one think their unintended dorkiness gives them character and makes them more memorable.
I’m going to listen to more anvil, but no matter how much shit you throw at them, they helped the beginnings of thrash and power metal, even though the were part of the NWOBHM, I wish I was able to see them in their hay day, but what saddened me was that one lady got into it, and even then no one was even head banging in the slightest, I mean at least give them some out of respect
