I saw the documentary "Global Metal" last night and you are right.....Metal is doing well all over the globe but here in North America. The guys from Anvil must really pinch themselves at times wondering if this isn't all a dream. There are thousands of Metal bands out there but somehow they managed very late in their career to get some recognition. Rob and LIps, I wish you the very best, God knows you paid your dues and earned everything heading your way. Rock On,
BOTTOM LINE: Anvil, along with dozens other Canadian bands NEVER got the respect that they deserved!!! I'm SO happy that Anvil is getting notoriety with their documentary and hopefully they become HUGE.
Anvil were my heroes while in high school. It's funny as I used to watch this video pretty much by myself (the viewing number was extremely low). Now, with the documentary out, I noticed there are a lot more people viewing this clip. Is it nice to see??? Hell yes and long overdue. Back then, I really thought Anvil would conquer the world. They were light years ahead of most bands. I guess it just wasn't in the cards. Beautiful story don't you think? Grinderman
Anvil was the bridge between NWOBHM and the Metal that was to become in the 80's. Their early contributions cannot be denied. There was a progression in their first 3 albums. Forged In fire was ahead of its time. At the time of it's release, it was widely panned, but with time, people were finally able to grasp and fully appreciate it's significance. There should be an official Heavy Metal Hall of Fame, and Anvil should be charter members! \m/
Whoo!Anvil! Thank god for those commercials about these guys's documentary, without it,i wouldnt have been turned onto some great music. So thank you Vh1,you guys sure do know some good music!
0:37 the notorious ''i-gotta-walk-backwards-because-this-groove-is-so-hot-i-don't-want-anyone-at-the-front-of-the-stage-to-catch-on-fire'' bass player move. originated by Rudy Sarzo.
I've had a couple of tunes by these guys on my iPod for ages, but after seeing their movie last night I bought their first 3 albums. I think they're great and certainly could compete against the big metal bands. They remind me of Maiden and Sabbath, and 'Metal On Metal' in particular is a great album.
Yes. I agree with you on that. There a bit old now. Lol. But i really only listen to old songs. Nirvana, Guns 'n roses, Metallica, Motley Crew, Iron Maiden.
wrabit79 I think it’s because their music never really went beyond this level. The whole watching schoolgirls play running their beavers? This is like Ted Nugent but 100x more disturbing Lipps’ songwriting and singing always seems to follow the riff he’s playing, very repetitive, and the songs themselves tend to always feel 2 minutes too long Robb is a great drummer, Lipps had some charisma, but they never had the looks or polish that other bands had. Metallica’s early stuff had shades of terribleness with lyrics like “Bang your head against the stage Like you never did before Make it ring Make it bleed Make it really sore In a frenzied madness with your leather and your spikes Heads are bobbing all around It is hot as hell tonight “ But they got better...Anvil sadly have never progressed Had they had a better singer and lyricist to go with Lipps and Robb, the story might have been a lot different
YEAH loved this band had the "hard 'n'heavy' album, played the fuck out of it, back in the day 85ish, '71 cutlass mag wheels, the ladies would bang there heads.
It's so cool seeing Anvil being mentioned again. I used to look them up on the net over the years and the band didn't even have a website. Now by some miracle, a documentary is out and interest caught up. I was a young teen in the late 70's, and Anvil's first two albums defined who we were. I'll never forget these summer days listening to School Love, Mothra and all the rest with my friends. We really believed the band would reach worldwide status. These days are the best for old Anvil fans.
Isn't it sad to see an Asian show promoting Anvil while Much Music/MTV wouldn't give the band any airtime on this side of the globe. Thank God for the Asians and their love for Metal music.
