Check out my woodturning channel: ‪@MidnightArtWoodturning‬
In this video I am restoring another item from the rust bucket, a mini jewelers anvil that was missing a stand.
It is a simple restoration, with some basic rust removal and polishing and then woodturning a wooden stand for it.
The stand was inspired by an antique jewelers anvil from France.

Super job mate, I really like the shape of the stand. Subbed to Midnight Art and I'm looking forward to seeing more wood turning. I think I like this long form rather than the quick edits, it's more informative and enjoyable. Thanks for this one, I really enjoyed watching.

Maybe it’s because I’m so used to it but I feel like the quicker editing is more “your” brand. I sped the video up 1.5x and it felt more familiar to me. No matter what you decide to go with I will still watch it, just might tweak it a bit so the viewing is more comfortable. Good work on the anvil leg!
@TheSmallWorkshop
@TheSmallWorkshop 2 месяца назад
It feels more natural for me to do the fast edits too, but looking at similar videos in the niche, people seem to favor longer videos. That's why I decided to try them for a while. I hope in time I'll become skilled enough to make longer edits not seem so boring... Thanks for sticking around! Cheers!

IMO this slow paced format is better but you might loose some people or get less watch time. However I think it is also good to sort of contrast with your shorts, so that people can see both spectrum of a restoration video

Just a tip, you shouldn’t polish your wood pieces when adding any kind of finish, varnish, stain, or wax. Wood is porous and the finer you sand it, the finer the sawdust and you end up filling in most of the pores in the wood and it won’t take the treatment as well. You should, in the future, stop sanding at 150-180 grit. Also small tip, when filling a crack with shaving and glue, apply the shavings first. And use finer shavings unless you like the look of big shavings. But definitely put the shavings in first. Other than that, great restoration. Looks great👍🏻

You asked for opinions, here’s mine! I like the slower/longer form, but I feel this video might be a BIT too slow and I worry that after watching 3-4 li,e this I would lose interest. But something in between, like this but maybe 3-4 minutes shorter, would in my opinion be ideal

Isn't this actually called an ASO (Anvil shaped object), as anvil are a lot bigger than this and also weigh a huge amount too. ASO and anvil are common misunderstandings.
@TheSmallWorkshop
@TheSmallWorkshop Месяц назад
You lost me there mate! I've never heard of ASO. Part of me feels like you are joking. Everywhere I've looked they are called jewelers anvils.
@seanwoodyatt7342
@seanwoodyatt7342 Месяц назад
@@TheSmallWorkshop anvils are all a standard size and weight, if it looks like an anvil, but isn't that size and weight, then they're technically classed as an anvil shaped object (ASO). This was told to me by some blacksmiths that I used to know, as well as an instructor at a farming college. A lot of people don't realise that anvils are a certain size and weight.
@hrxy1
@hrxy1 2 месяца назад
looks good but useless, you should have made the base square, then you can put it in the vise to hold it steady. or screw the base to the workbench.
@TheSmallWorkshop
@TheSmallWorkshop 2 месяца назад
the base can be screwed to a workbench by replacing the treaded rod with a longer piece. But for now I will keep it mobile, like antique jewelers vises were, for easy repositioning.
