I was just thinking that I hadn't see a video in a bit. Glad to see you posting, hope all is well. I can't believe how much material you had to take off that block. Crazy.
I used to operate a scheiss twin head. On intermittent cuts like that we would use two tools welded together. The HP to run a 32mm DOC was more then the machine could handle, but being intermittent it didn't matter the momentum got it through. We brought the bridge right down to limit tool deflection.
With this size, dimensions and material those tolerances are really tight and I would be concerned about the temperature of the workpiece. Do you get a reading on that before finish machining?
If the temperature is very different, there is an error in the dimensions, but the error value is not much different because the coolant was used and the measurement was made at a similar temperature.
If ever I saw a process that would benefit from time-lapse, this would be it!! Pretty please, setup a camera on a tripod, or just anywhere, and leave it snapping every second or two for the whole process.. I think it will be super to watch.. You have my sub in the hope you do it! [EDIT] Oh seems I'm already subscribed... .
