I hope the old guy appologized to the young kid drummer for reaching through his space while he was drumming. What an ignorant thing to do. Plus, he scolded the kid at the beginning of the song for hitting the symbol too hard. Really?? The kid did an excellent job, kept a great beat and his timing was perfect throughout the song. What a goof the old guy is. The drum set is probably his but who cares!
I understand why that would be your reaction (it probably would've been mine too), but there's a bit more to the story: Take it from someone who's used that particular drum kit a time or two; it's a lot more delicate than the footage suggests; you swing your stick just a tiny bit too hard, and next thing you know, the snare's knocked off its stand, the hi hat won't shut, or the crash cymbal is dented. So it's not a stretch to imagine that that exchange was just as much about helping the kid avoid a potentially song-derailing faux pas as it was about safeguarding his property.
It could also be that the old guy might have felt upstaged and was a little jealous that the kid was doing things that he was able to do back in his heyday that he can no longer do today. Get not just a different drummer but one with a better kit who's a little more skilled and more up-tempo. Not saying the old guy isn't doing good, but I think it's time to pass the torch and take a break.
@@zacharyjohnson6453 definitely agreed on using a different kit, based on my own experiences, lol. This year we really need someone to bring in a beater that both sounds good and can take a lot of punishment from different kinds of drummers; the kind of kit that the owner can more or less take or leave.
