How to set and measure esteps on the Anycubic Vyper using octoprint, but can be done with the terminal in Pronterface also. See my PID tune video for how to use Pronterface.
These videos are not sponsored, I am just doing them to help out everyone just getting started out 3D Printing in the Vyper community. The videos and editing are all on my time, and not as easy as it looks with the editing. I am still learning also. Please be kind, suggestions and criticism is always welcomed. If you would like to help support the channel please use the paypal link, or Amazon links below. Thank you so much Torsten Schuchort, and Anthony Bennett!!!!

You are amazing. I am that literal kind of person this helped a lot. I will have to learn that program but it makesore sense now. Could you show a benchy or string test with your setting? I use two other programs, but I like the control/directness of this.

The reason for disconnecting bowden is because e-steps is a mechanical calibration, it is only to calibrate the extruder gear ratio to the motor step size, it has nothing to do with the flow through the nozzle in any way.. Pushing filament through the nozzle is FLOW and is calibrated in the slicer.. The slicer needs to know the mechanical calibration, it is the slicer which calculates speed of filament feed based on that and the resistance/ pressure in the nozzle from the filament diameter, nozzle size, and size of the required line in the print. If the mechanical e-steps calibration is wrong then all the slicer calculations are wrong to some degree. Your method is much better than many, in fact nearly ALL I have seen, as you are setting a LOW speed of 50mm per minute when you feed, most e-step calibration videos use the menu on the printer to feed the filament and the menu entries purpose is to load and unload filament fast so it feeds way too fast for the hotend to be able to melt it and results in slipping of the extruder. Your method is MUCH MUCh better, feeding at 50mm/minute is unlikely to cause any issue with not being able to melt the filament fast enough, 30mm/minute would be even better to double safeguard, but in an IDEAL word calibrating WITHOUT going through the hotend is the way to do it for absolute perfection.

Awesome video I’m gonna take a crack at this in a couple days and see if I can check out what my printers doing. I went to put in a hardened steel nozzle, and it seem like it was excluding too much. It should’ve been exactly the same not really understanding that but I will have a look at the E steps and start there

An easier way to measure out is to print out a part that is 120mm. I used Tinkercad and just made a 200mm flat part as I use 3dPrint Begginer's guide.
@mariospanayiotou6644
@mariospanayiotou6644 2 года назад
Does that mean it will use 120mm of filament though?
@ASSOpid
@ASSOpid 2 года назад
@@mariospanayiotou6644 that's why you need a set of calipers to measure it and make sure it's 120mm. I just printed out this part because it was easier for me to just lay it on the filament and mark it.
@mariospanayiotou6644

@@ASSOpid but making something that has 120mm length doesnt mean it uses 120mm of filament does it?

Hi, you can use a terminal program like pronterface. This video shows using pronterface. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Fd59YnfAVng.html

Unless the vyper gives you the current e-steps value in the menus somewhere (dont have one yet) then you cannot do it without a terminal connection to the printer, octoprint or pronterface etc.. if the menus DO show current e-steps value then the extruding part can be done with a simple text file.. Use notepad to create a plain text document, enter all the commands in order there, save the text file as "extrude.gcode" and put it on the sd card in the printer. To extrude just print the file.. To update the e-steps you would do the same thing, just create a .gcode file with the commands required

I see you use something called octoprint. What is it Do they make it for Mac Is it just software or hardware also If you could take baby steps for Older newbies. First video talk about octoprint and that installation
@B3DPrinting
@B3DPrinting 3 года назад
Octoprint is a print server that is typically run on a raspberry pi connected to your printer, to have wireless access to your printer. If you watch my video on PID auto tune, I am using pronterface there. That is what you will want to use for a Mac without having Octoprint. Pronterface is a program you can use as a terminal to send commands to your printer.

I used this video to show the people who have Octoprint how to use the terminal there to send commands. The video before this, showed using pronterface, the terminal software that you would use if you don't have the extra hardware for octoprint. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wosSzZ_EFZI.html

Octoprint is probably, well absolutely is IMO, the best upgrade for a 3d printer you can do.. A 3d printer without octoprint is like having a Ferrari with a ford focus engine, sure it will work, but who the hell would want it! You can do so much more with it, create your own custom controls, monitor and control printer via any web browser or mobile device, do super smooth timelapses of your prints, visualise your bed level and surface, monitor gcode as it prints in real time, has a graph of your hotend and bed temps, and a list of plugins to add all manner of functionality. I would never consider using a 3d printer without octoprint now I have it, it is simply stunning!

What about calibrating the Esteps for the XYZ axis?
@B3DPrinting
@B3DPrinting 2 года назад
Steps are mechanically connected to the parts on the printer. The pulleys on the stepper motors are a particular size that goes with the step setting. Esteps need adjusted because extruder gear size can vary. The other stepper pulleys are precise sizes, as is the threads on the z lead screws. The only time the other steps will be off is if the pulleys or leadscrews have been changed. If x or y is off, and the pulleys are correct, then flow needs calibrated, if z is off, either the lead screw or nut is worn, or z offset needs adjusted.
