I knew a few of the songs, but had never seen the show. I had no idea what it was about. The style reminds me a little of Celebration/Fantastiks. I thought it was a great show, so thank you so much. I think this is a show that needs really good casting, and this was perfection. I must say that Patti Lupone's strong voice added a dimension that I can't imagine Angela Lansbury's voice did, although I am sure she was funny and lovely. This is a show that deserves more popularity, though it is a bit of a strange bird. Michael Cerveris, Audra McDonald were brilliant.
Another ancestor of the show is definitely Finian's Rainbow (Burton Lane & E.Y. Harburg), one of the few successful whimsy/fantasy/social satire Broadway musicals.
