We started this trip with exploring the Anza Borrego desert northbound. For us, especially the Fish Creek and Sandstone Canyon area is always worth a visit for a night or two. After that, we followed Highway 395 up to Ridgecrest and then headed east towards Trona. From there, we went off-road again trying to make our way through the Panamit Mountains and the southern part of Death Valley with our Toyota Land Cruiser. The plan was to spend around 5 days in this area before reaching Shoshone on Highway 127 to refill our supplies and heading back home again. While filling up our gas tanks we got surprised by a huge truck catching fire right next to the gas station. According to the police, the closest fire department was 45 minutes out so they had no other chance than letting the truck burn to the ground while evacuating the area to avoid anybody getting hurt by either the fire explosions or the smoke starting to spread out pretty quickly. This unexpected event added a little extra detour to our trip as we had to go up north again. However, it was definitely worth it!
