In this trip we explored the Anza Borrego Desert Area. We started in Blair Valley near Julian, CA and made our way up north through the desert until we hit the Diablo Drop Off. It was a tough decision if we should go down the left (and more easy) path but in the end we decided to take the more challenging route to the right. And let me tell you, depending on the condition of the trail, be prepared for some fun off-road adventure even though it will only last a few seconds! With a heavy car like our Toyota Land Cruiser, there was basically no way to stop the "white elephant" once it reached the tipping point at the beginning of the drop off. Releasing the break (even though this is the last thing you want to do in such a moment) was essential to maintain control during the way down.
After the Diablo Drop Off we continued our way through Sandstone Canyon which not only offers spectacular scenery but also some challenging off-road obstacles. One of them is the "Sandstone Canyon Gate Keeper" which might not look that intimidating at first but driving a wide car as the Land Cruiser through it can be quite an interesting task.
After a fun night camping, we left this area through Fish Creek Wash and continued our trip towards Salton Sea.

Awesome video. I have a '95 FZJ80 but I don't think I have the balls to do some of the things you did. Thank you for posting.

Classic!!!👍🏻💪🏽💥!! Quick question? What's the most amount of miles on the odometer where you would purchase a 90's 80 series for a daily driver, overland setup..? Appreciate it..

Law V. I would say it depends on the year and condition, but in general I would try to find one below 200k miles...

I bought one with 280k miles and it took a bit of work to get it nice and reliable again but I'd daily it now. I did a lot over 4 years.

Not sure if I translated your comment correctly (seems like you are asking where you can by spare parts for such a car). If so, this is one of the major advantages of a Toyota Land Cruiser. Spare parts are available almost everywhere /all over the world.

Is this cruiser locked?
@SkyrockExpeditions

Unfortunately not. Only a center diff right now. But lockers are on the list...

@@SkyrockExpeditions did you use the center lock in this video?
@SkyrockExpeditions
@SkyrockExpeditions 4 года назад
iStephanieg Actually yes. The center lock engages automatically when switching into low gears and low gears are very helpful in conditions like this 😉
@fromwatertowater

So you made it through that gate keeper without a rear locker? Crap now this means I have to try it. I also only have a center locker.
