Please name one Chinese manufacturer that produces an optically navigating uas under 2kg that has 4g cellular data linkage, or one that is under 2kg with a swappable payload? No Chinese drones have been approved for BVLOS in the US or Europe, yet many European, American, and even Japanese ones have. If they have the superior drone, why are they being beat in all these techinical areas? Furthermore, there are no Chinese sensor manufacturers that produce products for UAV that offered as technically advanced sensors as you find from american, european, and Japanese manufacturers. For example, DJI just released an HD thermal system, it's a sensor package that's been available in the US for 10 years. If you're just buying kiddy toys, it's understandable that you'd think that

I would only buy an Anzu if the US made it impossible for me to get away with flying a DJI Mini X without getting caught. I just think such a bill is absolutely ridiculous and should be actively opposed. I understand the privacy concerns with TikTok, but for recreational civilian pilots, there's no information that can be acquired from their flights that can't be acquired from Google Earth. I can understand restricting government use, where drones may be flying in sensitive locations, but we for recreational use, I can't see any security threat posed by that even if the CCp did demand all flight data from DJI. This bill seems more like it's about sending a message to China rather than actually protecting US national security. And back to the matter of buying an Anzu drone, first they would have to make a Mini clone. The lack of geofencing is an attractive prospect, although the 50% price increase is not. Why do much more expensive when they never had to pay for any of the R&D or product design? The higher price is also frustrating when I already have a DJI drone that I spent a lot of money on, that the government is apparently trying to prevent me from using. Are they going to be writing checks or giving tax deductions to ask us existing DJI owners? I doubt it. Perhaps the US government could create some kind of agreement between DJI and Anzu that would allow Anzu to wipe all the data from a DJI drone and install their own software instead for grandfathered-in drones purchased before the bill was passed. However I'm not sure if that would be sufficient, given the drone would still contain Chinese hardware. And what about visitors to the US from other countries? What would happen if they were to fly a DJI drone in the US? What about other DJI products, like their wireless microphone systems or action cameras? Would those be banned as well? How would that even be enforced when they don't broadcast an identifying signal? This all just seems hyper-reactionary. If this passes in the way that it seems written now, for long before all photography and recording equipment from China is banned?

The entire basis of the bill is to kill the market share DJI has over the bill sponsor's donors, Skydio and their officers, who want to make inroads into the US market. It's a bunch of back door deals. I hate the situation, and I hate the fact that some republicans sponsored the bill. This is normally something from the D. playbook. I don't have a horse in this race, other than for recreational use, but I have already voiced and opposed this bill and written all my representatives. This is shit move by congress.

I’ll fold before I buy a DJI lookalike or overpriced garbage from a US manufacturer. Would love to see DJI negotiate a path forward - start with divesting cloud and telemetry data storage to a third party company to manage access and ensure the PRC can’t access it. Many police and emergency services use DJI drones, and are overwhelmingly against this ban. Right now, there is already a ban on using federal money to buy DJI drones, but since no one (before, anyway) has made anything that works as well, that ban has just introduced extra paperwork. Many of the agencies have gotten around some concern by using US-based software, rather than DJI software. That *should* be enough - no data is going back to a China-based company - but the response has been there are concerns with the hardware and firmware. One solution might be if this company or another American company could wipe the firmware on current drones, so there is not even a possibility of information being returned to China.

I have about $10k of DJI drones as well as $1000 in Chinese made drones. So is the government just taking $11,000 from me & banning one of my favorite hobbies? I’m so fn confused. Flying drones is therapy for me. It helps keeps me from life’s bs. I beside myself right now.

The DJI apps and servers are probably how a ban would work. If any DJI product ever needs to verify an account or some other reason needs a connection before allowing operation, that's the end of flying the drone. Would be great to have an app for DJI drones that is independent and without data/ server needs. The orphaned DJI users would pay for such a thing.

If American politicians are going to ban CCP drones, then do it for the the right reasons and follow suit with computers, televisions, and everything else with a CCP micro chip. Why ban a product made on foreign soil only to reproduce it by the same company on a different foreign soil and upload a software / firmware on US soil and tell everyone it’s not the same thing. Oh, it’s a U.S. “based” company. It’s a great product. Randall Warren is genius in the drone marketing business. This slight of hand back door remanufacturing to bypass a policy is ridiculous.

I think that the only reason that this DJI ban exists is because Anzu has no opponent in the US when DJI is gone. they are doing this because its better for them, not for the rest. And its a green DJI enterprise that costs 3 thousand dollars more 😅

Ill keep building long range freestyle/cinematic drones...

I'm out of the loop, what is the specific reason why DJI is being banned in the US?
@DanielCrist
@DanielCrist Месяц назад
Due to the increasing political tensions between the US and China, many popular Chinese companies are being targeted and scrutinized as potentially being privacy and security risks to the US. The President just signed a bill into law requiring that TikTok either be sold to a US company within a year, otherwise access for US users will be disabled. I can understand the concerns over TikTok, because if you actually read the permissions it has and the ToS, things start to look a little creepy. There is evidence that is activated your microphone even while your phone is locked, that it take your eye movement to see where exactly on the screen you're looking, and it has access to look at just about everything on your phone, as well as a great deal of information that is on any network that your phone is connected to. Roof could be a major security concern if a Senator's child has TikTok want they use the same home wifi without any internal network firewalls, then theoretically if the CCP was working with TikTok, they could easily gain access to the Senator's phone and computer and see much of the data on each, and this is all subtly implied in the ToS that users have agreed to by creating a TikTok account. Furthermore, a much more direct threat could be something like the CCP using TikTok to influence the opinions of young Americans or even sway elections. Since the proprietary algorithm that determines what videos are down to users is highly guarded secret, the CCP could utilize that to spread propaganda and misinformation to Americans. So when the house and Senate move to ban those kinds of companies I can understand the rationale, even if the constitutionality is questionable. However with DJI, to me it seems more about sending a message to China and stepping on their toes a little by banking an extremely popular Chinese company. I can't imagine that they could acquire any additional data from the flights of recreational civilian pilots that they can't already acquire from Google maps. I understand banning law enforcement and government use because they might be flying in sensitive locations, but a blanket ban for the whole country seems excessive. Anyway, that's the reasoning that they're operating on. DJI will just be one of many Chinese companies eventually banned out of overzealous security concerns, until we finally just end up getting involved in a proxy war with China over Taiwan, just as we're in a proxy war with Russia right now using the Ukraine as the battlefield. But hey, the good news is that this probably triggers the start of WW3, with the BRICS Alliance vs the NATO Powers, and then any silly drone laws won't matter anymore and you can fly whatever you want however you want. *TL;DR:* increasing political tensions and paranoia with China, leading to privacy and security concerns presented by the widescale presence of certain Chinese companies in the US and the data collection being done by their products or services.

After moving to ban TikTok in the US, the federal government could target the China-based DJI next. Aa bill advanced by the House of Energy and Commerce Committee last month that could ground DJI’s fleet of drones across the country. If passed, the Countering CCP Drones Act would add DJI drones to the FCC’s list of equipment covered by the Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Act of 2019. This bars communications equipment or services that “pose a national security risk” from running on US networks. It also prevents companies from using federal funding to purchase banned equipment. Chinese companies such as Huawei and ZTE are already included on the FCC’s list.

Stefanik's actions appear driven by her broader political aspirations, potentially aiming for a spot on the Republican vice-presidential ticket. Her close ties to anti-China drone players like Skydio and AUVSI, facilitated by former staffer Joe Bartlett, reveal the self-serving nature of her legislative efforts. These bills are not about national security-they are about Stefanik's political gain at the expense of an industry that is crucial for innovation and safety.

Anzu Isn't behind the bill's seeking to ban the drones, that would be SKYDIO. The drones cost more because it's not possible to produce them cheaper than China does. On top of production they have to first send parts to Malaysia, then send the drones to the US, develop the software and..... Pay the licensing fee to DJI.

This is crazy! This is another way of DJI controlling this drone and how it works. The question is... Does DJI have full control where this drone is built? Does the country where this drone have the same rules for not allowing China's control in production? The answer is NO! So, this is a loop-H that banned products can be produced no in banned countries but they still have 100% full control how things are. Software is a convert it up, any parts of the drone can have hidden malware and no matter what you use it, the malware could do anything when enter the USA ISP. This is how the USA functions today! A bunch of idiots in power.
