Laminoplasty is a safe and effective posterior cervical procedure to treat cervical myelopathy and myeloradiculopathy secondary to multilevel disc herniations, traumatic central cord syndrome, congenital stenosis, spondylosis, and ossified posterior longitudinal ligament. Surgical techniques are aimed at providing both direct and indirect posterior decompression with preservation of motion, when compared to anterior and posterior fusion surgeries. With awareness of the potential surgical pitfalls, as well as complications that may arise postoperatively, surgical outcomes can be maximized in these patients.
Learner Objectives:
At the conclusion of the webinar, participants should be able to:
• Identify the indications for and contraindications against selecting patients to perform laminoplasty.
• Learn the technical pearls of mastering laminoplasty, and potential pitfalls to avoid.
• Be able to counsel patients on the outcomes of cervical laminoplasty versus other cervical procedures, and also on the potential complications.
