If you're a research professor getting grant money for studying environmental and climate science you better have a compelling story that will scare the bejeesus out of everybody, so that they'll call on politicians to do something about it; and "doing something about it" typically means more and more grant money to the scientists exploiting this hysteria. Add to that all the people in politics who invested in green energy in the beginning who have profited handsomely from capital investment and government subsidies to build it out, and you sorta understand how Climate Change takes on a life of its own and cashes in on the terror they've visited upon ordinary citizens.

That's because most of ocean life to our knowledge lives in the epipelagic zone, which is like the first couple hundred feet from shore and what the sun can light up. Everything in the deep ocean you usually have to search for a while to find. That's why they think that 90% of ocean life live in that zone

Are you saying that because there's still fish there or because you know how many fish there used to be? 100mil fish seems like a lot, unless there was previously 10billion. . Check out the Baltic Sea and the Mediterranean. It's the fishermen telling the tale,why would they lie?

parts of the world have been over fished to the point of local extinction of species. China, one, Mediterranean is two, parts of the African coast, but that is because of China as well. Parts of the pacific. Where there are no rules or laws in place and nothing is heavily enforced is where you will find that vast majority of fish that have gone away or in such low numbers they are not worth fishing for.

The Asians have huge fleets of factory ships that have choppers to locate the schools, go fast boats to encircle and net them. All of them. Then they are processed on the boats. Sharks are the top predators in the oceans and their numbers have been decimated. I have friends who are Captains in the Galapagos and I fish there occasionally. Like most people on the internet: you don't know what you're talking about. Ffs, you probably don't even live near the water...

He sees tons of pods of fish but only directs the ship to the bigger ones that are worth navigating to. Part of his expertise is being able to tell if the fish are big enough to bother with. They leave the younger/smaller fish and schools alone. They’re in the business of making money and have invested millions of dollars on equipment. They didn’t do that for a job for a couple of years.

It was akin to a witness saying "I saw corruption," and when pushed for specifics he'd just list off more general stuff without ever really saying what it was he witnessed.

Because the fish we catch mostly only occupy areas of the ocean we can access and study, so we know how depleted their populations are. Everything in the deep parts we can't reach is stuff we don't want to catch anyway, and the populations down there are likely much smaller than other areas due to pressure and lack of light/food.

While I disagree with the premise, many fish you get at the market are farm-raised.

Fish reproduce and there's still lots of fish. But they're a drop in the bucket compared to a thriving ocean. And many species have gone extinct
