I’m an HR leader for a Forbes 25 company in the US. Black Rock bought majority stake in our company last year. It’s insane how he’s just spitting straight facts and 90% of the US population is ignorant to it.
Additional information here about two firms that work in the background and influence Board meetings via "proxy" votes: ISS & Glass Lewis steer the behavior of thousands of smaller asset managers - and tens of billions of dollars- too often advance politicized ESG values, typically in lockstep with the Big Three asset managers BlackRock, State Street, and Vanguard. These two firms represent a duopoly by controlling near 97% of the market share of the advisory service industry. In fact, BlackRock’s new “Voting Choice” program only allows participating clients in global Separately Managed Accounts and eligible pooled vehicles to “choose” between ISS and Glass Lewis voting slates.
It's crazier to me that this info is out in the open. Nothing is barring people from learning this, it's an easy google search. Yet ignorance persists, imo because people don't have the incentive to care. Everyone has their nose stuck in their own life, they don't want to care about stuff outside of that.
Intelligent podcasters understand that when you set your ego aside and stop trying to hear yourself talk, your guests will make your job so much easier by simply being allowed to make their point uninterrupted. There are podcasters who ask questions and immediately interrupt their guest before they can even start answering. Like....STFU and let your guests speak!
@@MrBeatboxmasta I don't think he views this as a job... I think he realizes he has a greater purpose than just "work and making money." This kind of conversation should be waking people up to what is really going on and what has been going on behind closed doors for the past 60 years with no real reporting on it because the media is bought and paid.
Actually that is why he has the biggest podcast in the world. Interviewing is about letting your guest talk and know what questions will have the best impact.

He said 88% of S&P companies have largest shareholder held by 3 companies, that's misleading and sensationalist! Because those companies may only own 3-5% of shares which doesn't mean they have absolute control over so many companies. For example, the top individual insider shareholders of Google are Larry Page, Sergey Brin, and Sundar Pichai, and the top institutional shareholders are Vanguard Group Inc., BlackRock Inc. (BLK), T. Rowe Price Associates Inc., and FMR LLC. Almost all own 3-6% Not one of them has absolute power over the company. What's more Vanguard and Blackrock own these shares via their ETFs which are the funds of the public !
Finally. This is the ONLY conversation that matters to humanity's future. Forget the culture wars. It's all about money. Finally someone is saying that the president is not the boss. It's the financiers.

I have been saying this for 8 years. I am so happy others are talking about it. The other thing to look at is the influence at local levels in each state that these companies have.

Imagine having the balls to go after the defense contractors (the shadowy government that took out JFK). If you're broke nobody would care, but imagine being a broke immigrant then becoming successful, buying a 25 million dollar mansion in Miami and then going after the most dangerous and secretive groups in the world, now that is what i call real courage. I don't think anybody has ever done this before at this level and with this degree of detail. Bravo Patrick you earned my respect and the respect of thousands of good men in the real world. How exactly is he going after them? They look down at him and don't ever care to lift the upper lip for a quarter-smile... OK, this was the pessimistic and dismissive part of me speaking. The optimist in me believes that we will ultimately reach a critical mass of awareness that will overturn the current problem-solution paradigm that is crippling the world (making people sick to create a demand for a "cure" that will mask certain symptoms but will cause another set of health problems, so another "cure" can be sold etc.; pitting people against each other to make wars and a perpetual market for weapons systems and munitions ultimately financed by the poor people forced to die on the battlefields).
Pat is such a gem. The way he can dissect information and deliver it in such a simple and smooth way. He never comes off as ranty or someone that has a chip on his shoulder. Just delivers it as a matter of fact.
I got so excited at how in depth PBD discussed BlackRock, Vanguard, and StateStreet - and how concerned he is with their business dealings and monopolizing. I am so grateful that this is being spoken about so publicly, and getting so many views even on here! The whole episode is great too.
He is deliberately withholding information that these firms run ETFs. They don't control these companies -- it's distributed among millions of passive investors.
They control majority share and all the companies they have majority share have to consult with them before they make decisions. He is trying to make it a woke thing it's more than that.
@kaadatia Blackrock and Vanguard do in fact control a lot of ETFs but he is correct in saying that they control these companies in terms of actual shares, pick any S&P 500 company there is a high chance they control majority share in it. Just pick a company and Google the top shareholders.
I don't dislike Patrick, but why he is considered so smart? Are you automatically smart because you're rich? I have not learned anything about the world after listening to him for about 50-100 hours in total. I can't say that to anybody else. Also, he is 40+ and has to explained basic economic philosophies like Social democracy, etc. And even in this very video, he is exposing his lack of understanding: "that's more than Russia spent on their military" You obviously don't get accurate numbers on Russian military spending. Most high schoolers know that I assume.

This guys is wildly oblivious to how the investment world works that it is almost comical. To begin with, BlackRock Vanguard and State Street all own so much of the S&P because they operate the largest index funds and ETFs. Basically, you give them money and they invest it in the S&P based on how the index is weighted. I may have lost some people, but the end moral is that it isn’t “their” money, it’s their investors. Who are their investors? Pension funds, large wealthy investors, individual Main Street investors. You name it. Sure, they might champion ESG, but ultimately if it came down to performance or ESG they will take performance every day of the week. No one stays with you for values while you are losing their money. Performance trumps all in investing. They invest where they will make money, and in index funds which mirror the S&P, Nasdaq 100, etc. Also to add, Soros is a big spender but 7/10 largest individual campaign donors in the last cycle were Republicans. The world isn’t tilted against the Republican Party like they want you to believe. You aren’t a victim of everything. Stop acting like it.

He has the biggest podcast in the world, and he owns it.... a little different proposition if HE is frankly speaking about and on EVERYTHING, I had no issue with him simply deflecting that question for PBD to respond, he didn't shut it down and deflect the conversation, just redirected the question. @@Omni-King2099as a professional investor I confirm he spoke truth. The exact numbers don’t matter since they constantly change but he got them correct to a 95% degree. These top 4 financial institutions practically own YOU as a human being, believe it or not. It may sound weird but you are almost 80%+ their property. Just let that resonate. Don’t like one product and use another? Doesn’t matter, you’re still swallowing. Want to move to another western country to get away? Doesn’t matter, still swallowing. Want to boycott? Oh really… *gulp* These mfs own literally 90% of everything. Want to eat a mom-and-pop’s local sandwich? Well… it’s ingredients are made by companies owned by them… the farm equipment… the fertilizer… the immigration policy written by pocket politicians… the oil used for transporting it, the employees who handle it, the payroll company, the bank the money sits in, the property of the sandwich shop, the sidewalk you took to get there is controlled by politicians and built by companies that they own, the freaking water… the air… they are literally now owning the AIR bro… medicine… defense… offense… everything fed… that is what all of the ESG/etc stuff is… they are basically dictating sales of the planet Earth and the resource of human labor. Don’t like Coke and enjoy Fanta? Swallowing… don’t like either and enjoy some other less known healthy drink? It’s owned by a company owned by another company owned by them too. Enjoy a substance like alcohol? They own it and the agency making rules for it… and lastly, who sits in the Federal Reserve? The “revolving door”, that is who… those who were leaders in these top financial institutions go straight from there and right into the big boy seat printing money or to other places in government. Inflation is the hidden tax that keeps poor people poor and makes wealthy people wealthier and powerful because poor people do not own assets and pay the tax while the wealthy earn from it exponentially. When you ask the government to do something that costs money, guess what? First they print money thus making you pay for it 100% via inflation, this gives them better earnings and makes their assets appreciate, then they give the contract to a company owned by, you guessed it, them… oh and sprinkle some laws and taxes on top of that and you’ve got yourself our current situation.

@@aleksandrl6740 He comes across as a typical, mostly weaselly, salesman type who has been willing to do whatever it takes to get ahead in life since coming to the US. Now that he's reached a point of lofty financial/ material comfort in life, it's as he noted in this clip, there's only "control" or a "vision" (which still falls under the category of control, in most cases) left for him to try to achieve. Lately, he's found more success in this "I'll interview anyone/ I'm willing to put my safety at risk and ask/ say what most others are afraid to ask/ talk about" pro-American immigrant rags-to-riches-story lane, which has a high potential social market value. So, now all he has to do is continue to grow that brand/ reputation to get higher up the hierarchy of social dominance that he still craves to become one of the top dogs of, if not the top dog of, outright (starting with the podcast scene). Guys like him are more so fascinated by companies like Blackrock and related, and the people who run them - not because they're genuinely against what these monopolistic ultra influential companies/ people do and the power that they have, but because he sees himself as a potential 'player' in their game and he wants to compete with them on the stage of social influence/ power that he sees them as the current leaders/ winners of. People like Patrick want to learn from these companies/ elites, find out how they managed to get to where they are and maybe more importantly - learn how they managed to avoid being taken down by competitors and government oversights - the same things he has to deal with now or will have to deal with eventually on a currently much smaller scale with his scam/ scummy businesses and other more shady/ morally dubious things he's involved in behind the scenes.

Don’t get me wrong I like PBD but he doesn’t really understand what ESG scores are. Blackrock doesn’t not come up with their own scores. Data providers that do provide full transparency into how the score is derived. And companies willingly fill out these surveys in order to get scored. The majority of the factors on the environmental scoring (the E) are typically based on how a company can deal with regulations, or changing gas prices, for example. The social (the S) stuff is typically overblown. For example - board diversity is not a factor, but whether or not a company reports their board diversity is. No quotas - just reporting standards. There is nothing within an ESG score that is making Target make clothes for trannies. Hahah
