The once great Ghana empire has fallen and West Africa is in turmoil. Sumanguru, King of the Sosso, is poised to forge a new empire. Said to possess a magical instrument that guarantees victory, he has led his Sosso warriors to conquer old Ghana and a small Mandinkan kingdom called Mali. I was looking forward to seeing you play this mission so much before I heard they nerfed the difficulty. They made this so damn easier than what it was at launch!

Yeah, the reason this one felt so easy is because it was heavily nerfed in a recent patch. It used to be one of the hardest missions in the game, but sadly, people complained about the difficulty, and the devs decided to make it much, much easier, so now it isn't challenging at all.

Yeah, this mission was so much harder before the nerf, even on normal it was ridiculous. It would be cool to see Viper play the old version, if that's possible.

No, there was no glitch. You simply rekt that noob As an additional info: this map is exactly the same as one from age of empires 1, but with some different objectives (there is no enemy hero and your tc's must not be destroyed. Toplo would never win that). Also, at AOE1, you start at "feudal age" and the enemy is post-imp, so it's quite more difficult.

Could you redo this mission with the original map please? Starting in imperial, nearly no ennemy attacks... this was heavily nerfed recently with patch 4.8b. It would be much more fun because there was no challenge here, you destroyed the ennemy so fast ;)

pre-patch version was much more difficult than this, red attack you by land and sea earlier and their defenses was stronger than this

i think it is possible to farm from the farms on which you built your siege workshops, at least i did that on the Alaric campaign : Sack of Rome... anyways its really nice that you put so much effort in youtube as well as twitch, keep up the good work :)

There's 2 types of farms; the "building" you make and gather food from, and the terrain that's completely aesthetic. You can't gather food from the terrain, but it looks exactly like a farm. However, the scenario makers like to add the farm squares on the terrain so it blends in perfectly and you'll have what looks like spots on the terrain that are gatherable.

This scenario used to be one of the hardest in the entire game. Koumbi Saleh used to spam units like crazy almost from the get-go, you only started in castle age, and didn't have anywhere near as much starting resources...Then it got patched grassSad

On this map the AI spams out infantry only. If you wall up the bridge to the enemy base and park 3-4 mangos/onagers outside they clear up anything the enemy sends with ease. A castle can protect them from the navy, a bombard cannon can clear up any trebs they send after the onagers clean the infantry. If you spend the first 10-20 ingame minutes booming you can spam galleons and bombard cannons, clean out their navy and shore defenses, and then just drop off villagers to spam castles all over their base.

Ah man, I was looking forward to this one, but the mission itself was a bit of a letdown. I wasn't able to beat it in numerous tries, but that was before they nerfed it to the ground. The pre-nerf mission would have been way more interesting to see played by a pro, because it indeed was the hardest mission of that campaign, maybe a contender for the hardest campaign mission of all the campaigns. Maybe you can try to find the prenerf mission when you're done with the rest of the campaigns.

no the hardest one is one of the AoRR, in which you have to save an allied king out from an besieged town. even tatoh struggeled a lot there.

Yeah... That Malay mission was pain in the ..... I'm just hoping devs won't nerf it before Biper. I don't know why but everytime i see biper suffering in campaigns i feel good :D

He can play original version of this mission, if he play on previous Patches, which you can. Other two very hard missions are Malay 2 and Burmese 5.

Man... I suffered pikemen, champion and cavaliers and trebs every 5 mins with them having +7 pierce armor. And i started castle age. Then if u leave enemy docks for too long they make 100+ galleons... This mission gave me a brain aneurism. Trick i found was take control of sea, get gbetos near ur walls with cannon galleons, then bum rush trebs to kill enemy wonder...

Nice job Viper (I reccall the Lion's Den being harder, the level seemed bugged tbh). And on the next campaign, when speaking Francisco, try to spell the "cis" like "sis" in sister. (That's how Portuguese native speakers spell it)

after AoAK und AoRR campaigns i really recommend the campaigns of bassi on the steam workshop. there are several historic campagins (mongols and new world). they are beautifully designed and very hard! bassi won AoKHeaven price for best scenario or campaign last year - so this is really good stuff. @theviper: if you want me to send you the link to the campaigns on steam, just like this.

This map actually looks really similar to the one from Age of Empires I Rise of Rome, specifically the Ceasar campaign, where you had to fight a macedon enemy.

Before nerf it was the hardest mission i ever met in aoe2 and the reason i searched it on youtube. Strikes both land and sea started in 3-5 min. Enemy got spawning lots of heavy galeons and cannon galeons. Docks were protected by towers and git rebuilt by workers. Strikes on lands with pretty much crowds for campaign in every 30 secs with knights,swordsmen, trebuchets or tarrens. All leveled up also. And at last the wonder that got built really fast

In campaign like this I see what a beatyfull purpose actually the wonder in AoE in the campaign mode fullfilles. It makes the game harder in the time pressure way, cause the KI is allways limited with his capabilities but the human can get allways faster until one point.

Don't know if previous episode was a bug, did it like 3-4 times trough different patchs (Standard & hard difficulty) and was always this infinite spawn of jebaitos ! But this mission was not THAT hard before the patch, don't worry you're the best Viper !

yeah on the original version we start from a few galleys not war galley, no infantry just 1 scout and no farm, mining camp, just a few villagers but i forgot what the starting age

They have no eco, you have at least twice their score by 10 minutes into the game

I remember I had to make a couple of layers of stone walls to defend and boom behind it. This is one of the toughest scenarios in AoE2 - you're on the back foot, the enemy is fully boomed and is spamming units and yet you can somehow miraculously push him back progressing slowly. I always like to make skirmishers behind walls and squander them since they cost so little. It's a shame that they didn't leave the difficulty high at least for the hardest, devs could've nerfed the mission only for lower difficulty levels.

Francisco de Almeida's campaign is way harder, similar to Sforza, you must go on and win the campaign with the units you get on the beggining.

i played the older mission and it was damn hard even on moderate. They made hundreds of cavaliers and champions and elite shotel warriors.

Glad someone noticed else noticed :-). The 4th Malay map for example look like the map Caesar vs Pirates. There are many easter eggs for those, who played AoE 1 Campaings.

I played this on standard difficulty and it was way harder... need to get to imp first but red just keep sending imp units and had no time to boom at all...I know I’m a noob and everything but not like this bipah 11
