They do show Mongols SO Fierce In this campaigns but when we get to play the genghis khan campaign All we get is few cavalry and villagers.. Tho the tamerlane campaign is quite wonderful in this aspect..

There is an achievement called "Cuman Flush" to beat this level in feudal age.

Thanks for the video. This is a difficult mission with multiple paths to victory! After watching this VOD I feel inspired to go back and complete this escape mission.

I killed the Mongols on hard difficulty after I "killed" the Tatars with only one castle left. Three castles are needed for me to defend the choke point beside the cliff. I destroyed Subotai's tent and he said I would pay for it. Then all of his units got a significant buff, e.g., a heavy CA had 160 HP 8 MA and 7 PA. This is a very nice challenge if anyone wants to try.

I beat this level by luring the Tatars army into the Cyan army with the help of Kotyan Khan and basically just rushing them super hard with rams. Once you destroy the first TC and their production buildings it gets so much easier.

That was a great master class, Sir Viper. Thank you.

I builded 4 castles in hardest difficulty in a hill super fast and block the castles with maze of palisade wall so my castles with vills inside killed everybody. Hold on a couple hours, build large eco, and slowly killed every single enemy of the map and wiped my ass with Subotais dead army. Plus saved the game like 50 times and needed to load game another 50 times for a perfect victory.

I won it in Castle Age by going one TC, FC-ish into castle drop. Make a bunch of kipchaks and 5-6 rams, the Mongols were utterly finishing to destroy my base when I finally took down the last Tatars' castle! It's such a great scenario, for sure one of the hardest in the campaigns.

Viper, can you replay this campaign leaving a small remnant of the Tatars to see if you can overwhelm the Mongols? I think it would be a fun challenge

It took me 2 hours++ in moderate difficulty, what an insane battles against them mongols and tatars. Mongols were too OP in this Campaign.

SPOILER: Haven't watched the whole thing yet, but gotta say that Viper's last stand on 2nd attempt was heroic.

Viper, could you perhaps turn up the game volume (dialogue anyway) up a bit in the next campaigns? The difference between your voice and the dialogue is a bit much.

This was a hard mission, the first time i failed miserably, wasn't expecting to get pushed that hard, but eventually i did it, wa so proud when i completed it on hard.

Dude this is the campaign mission I almost broke my whole brand new super high end PC on.... the difficulty of this mission is unbelievably hard. Once the mongols get through your ally, its over...

I could hardly pass Castle Age and hardly build Castle next to a town center in the base south but hereafter easily won the episode (I am a very average player, nowhere near viper). But when I see the endless flow of mongols and tatars in this video made me think why&how mine was easier... cant wait to try again at home

I think the retreat or the cumans triggers if you destroy the castle of the tartars before the cumans are defeated because for me they never retreated either. Also they held much better on my game for me to boom and make a step lancer/kiptchuk army with full upgrades.. I walled myself in and made a castle on which the tartars suicided too. But appart from my army there was nothing left because the mongols destroyed everything.

Did all the fleeing Kiev units die at the top north of the map? A lot of orange dots show up, or am I wrong?

I like to think that those bombard cannons the Mongols brought from China to this mission were the original ones captured in that campaign. The Mongols didn't bother to capture Chinese engineers and ask how to build them, instead a few dudes with sweet cardio push the original ones all over the world, and they take SUPER good care of them.

This is the only campaign I couldn't complete.. I super enjoyed watching you destroying this fxxxxxxg tartars!

The mongols are truly invincible in this mission. I literally got routed by the Mongols each and every time. Had to finally use the cobra car after getting frustarted to the core.

This just isn't a Viper scenario, more of a Hoang one.

You don't even have to build any farm in this game. Actually you only need to build Kipchaks and battering rams to win the game, so all you need is wood and gold. And order 4 villagers to get just enough stones to build 2 castles. 1 can be built at the gate of the front town center of Tartars, and the other is built near the main gold mines at the heart of Tartars' bases. With the first castle, you can draw enemy cavalries to get killed, and with the second, the enemy won't get enough gold to support building more cavalries. The neglect of gathering food can in a sense relieve our shortage of villagers and time, and help focus on necessary and important military units.

When defending a castle, wouldnt it be worth it to target enemy units with the castle? Specially if you can queue attacks so it kills several cav archers in a row before going back to the rams (which i'm not sure is possible, since DE changed how queuing works). I understand not doing it in the old editions, but if it works in DE i can see Viper selecting the castle, then queuing attacks on 6 archers in half a second, then going back to microing units.

its a joy to see how much you are enjoying the challenge - that's what it's all about! **so u managed to kill the extreme ai a few times - but can u kill the Mongols in this map? :D

You can beat it without flush. I did it with my third attempt on hard. Two TCs close together, one TC goes to castle, the other makes vills, get stone early, build first castle to protect eco. Then build eco and build another castle close to the first castle, build market and buy some stone for this. Then continue to build eco and start army, skirms and some light cav/camels or knights for taking out rams, later get kipchaks. Get bodkin arrow. Defend using castles and tcs to kill enemy army. Then build third castle close, build smart walls. With this setup you can defend the mongol attacks. Then continue eco and army build up. Once you hit 150 pop take the tatars out.

I actually tried to build up a true economy and finally won the game around 90min or so game time. I had my eco mostly located at the blue ally and the north of them. Mass kipchek and super speedy production cuman light cav could actually fend off the mongol aggresion once the 80 vills eco set up. Not a very pleasant experience though. But I do appreciate that the game depicted the Mongols pressure quite accurately.

had to come back to this video to be able to do this mission... took me about 15 attempts and finished it in the end the same way viper did. just yolo all in no tc

just finally finished the mission, hardest one I've done so far, fun seeing Vipers reaction to the absurdity this mission was plopped 2 town facs right next to each other, wall to wall, by a quarry as two townhalls filled with villagers allowed me to actually survive the first waves of attacks. I would defeat each enemy town by sending in a small army in there to distract while a horde of villagers plugged the village entrance with a castle, which could exactly reach enemy TCs with 2 range upgrades. edit: Huh I never made it to the part where the mongols reach me. Edit 2: Oh I didnt read the hints

Am I mistaken or does the AI in AOE2 has unlimited resources of gold even when they have no merchants and the natural gold resources are drained? It is unfair yet in many levels I've played it was the only explanation for their armies being decimated at my castles, yet are all rebuild in a minute over and over again, normally costing thousands of gold units each.

I spent so many hours redoing this mission...so I searched on youtube and found this, yep this is the BEST strategy to finish this game without mongols crap destroy your base in one minute. The scenarist were tricky, you feel like you safe to start a base and gather many ressources, but it's the trap, all you have to do is build one siege ram building, siege rams, couple scout cavalry and the tatars will stop making units after you destroy their first TC and gold mining builing, simple as that.

Nerfs that would make sense for Cumans: -start with 50 stone (-150) -Cavalry speed bonus applies only to knight line. -Steppe lancers have 1 less pierce armor so they are weak vs archers and under town centers and castles.

You can win this mission by a brute force method : Booming, buying 2 castle and spamming light cav with Cumans castle age tech. It takes nearly 2 hours by this way but you can counter Mongols army easily once spamming light cav start.

I got this second attempt on hard but havent been able to reproduce it since. Feels bad man. Such a satisfying feeling beating this one

For this campaign, I can't counter Tatars first some attacks, then restarted and I try tower rush and federal ram to crash Tatars. It works finally because you are cuman.

You play like a god here. But tell how casual like me can have a chance in this mission. Please do tell me. I dont have a slight change of holding even for 10 minutes.. xD this was awesome!

This was a really hard mission on mac difficulty. I just built castles everywhere in tatar base to kill their swarm armies

I snuck Kotyan behind their lines in the beginning then I slow took out their production buildings

I tried the flush and couldn't make it work. Instead I just built up an economy and massed skirms and spears (literally producing them continuously from the moment I got the archery range and barracks). Since the Tatars only make cavalry you easily defend their early waves. You need to go Castle Age reasonably quickly and upgrade to pikes/elite skirms, otherwise once the Tatars go castle and start sending castle age upgraded units, they absolutely melt your feudal age boys. Then you just load your pikes into rams and attack.
