Aoe2: Saladin Campaign Comparison "An Arabian Knight" - Original vs Definitive Edition 

The original narator for Saladin's campaign is my favourite narator

Why I think the original introduction is far far far better: 1º: It had a 3D rendered background, even if it's old 3D, it creates a scenery of reality, of immersion. You're watching a real book, in a tent, somewhere in the desert. In the DE, it's a drawing, a good one, but a drawing, it's now a background and not the setting of the storytelling. 2º: The original kind of imitates handwriting in ink, making it more clear you're reading a book. DE just introduces a shallow Word font, it's digitally perfect, it's out of it's time, it's no longer immersive. 3º: The original is all encompassing. The DE has shiny red buttons in a very digital UI. Again, it's no longer an immersive window into storytelling, it's a game.

Saladin where are you going with that great army?

Gameplay and visuals are better in the new version, but I prefer the classic storytelling.

The music for the original follows the narration, setting the mood for the words, whereas the new one just feels like background music to fill space

Graphically it’s better, but I prefer the old voice acting. It was more cheesy, but it also had flavor and was entertaining. The new voice acting is very bland and deadpan in comparison.

They did a good job with the voice acting in this one (compared to the Joan of Arc one, at least). However I still find the music to be generic, like it doesn't really fit as much as the original music.

Salladin where are you going with that great army!!! I won't forget this dialogue even though I played this campaign some 15 year ago.

I love how the arabic leaders of that time were interested in expanding knowledge when they conquered other lands.

The buttons in the story scenes break immersion and bug me. An easy fix couldve been to hide them and only appear if the player moves the mouse cursor on them. The DE narration for the Saladin campaign is really good compared to the others

i prefer the orginal introduction bgm. It is simply more middle eastern. The DE intro bgm sounds like western symphony with some arabic elements, not as authentic.

Are they going to get Brendan Gleeson to voice Raynald de Châtillon like in Kingdom of Heaven?

Voice acting in AoK is much better than DE honestly. Please keep the old voice acting.

The font in the intro simply ruins the immersion, it looks out of place. It was perfect in the original game.

I POSTED very early during the beta on why the old intros were better as soon as the Wallace campaign came out. Most of the other beta sheep attacked me for it.

Sounds like they got the original VA for the campaign though or at least someone with a very close resemblance. I do like DE for the graphical look and the general updates, but nothing beats the original campaigns VA and art. Sure the originals were a bit cheesy, but they had personality.

The music fits so much better in the old one. The music was so much more pronoun and impactful, it was as if it is telling a story of its own along with the narrator. The new one sounds like just every other background music. That being said, I really appreciate the effort the new devs have put into DE. Instead of recycling old material they actually went out of their way to make new content. The graphic, on the other hand, is AMAZING holy cow I love this so much, just gonna need to turn off bloom and all. So rare to see a finished product in today's game market, thank DE devs and thank you for this video comparison!

Voice acting in DE is much better. However because of nostalgia many of you think original is superior. If you think beyond your bias you'll see

they should have kept the original voice acting and updated the maps themselves, adding more stuff to make them more entertaining in the boring parts .
