Brilliantly done! Alittle anal in parts but nicely done. TONS of excellent information! Well done.

Automotive technicians are instructed not to touch halogen bulbs to be put into car headlamp situations for the reason you mentioned. So yes thanks for reminding me.

Neat solution to mounting those Halogen lamps sir, like that! Mine have been mounted on a simple length of wood, but I may just try something like your solution, just for the hell of it, thank you!... 👍🏻 🤪 🐍
@tronage
@tronage 5 лет назад
Thanks! I thought about the wood at the start, but wanted something less flammable. The likelyhood of the lamps catching the wood on fire is slim to none, but I figured I could build something metal with some screws etc. How did you do it with the wood, counter-sunk them into holes?
@Venomator.
@Venomator. 5 лет назад
tronage - Thank you for the response, appreciated. No, I drilled holes in the timber big enough to take the cables and used self tappers to then screw the lamp holders onto the timber, keeping the lamps themselves as far away from the wood surface as possible without other materials. I have been collecting the bits to give your version a go and will let you know how it goes, thanks again... 👍🏻 😉 🐍

If I purchased more of those discharge units & used a xt60 parallel adapter, could I daisy chain these for higher wattage discharge rates? IE -2 for 300w, 3 for 900w etc... I ask because I use mine for discharging 5200-9700 mAh 3s-6s lipos.

Kind of odd that ti says it's 150W, yet the most I saw on your amp meter was 108w. I just got one of these, but I have xt90's on all my packs. All but a couple small packs that have a balance tap and jst on them. If I plug just the balance lead in, it powers the balancer and with the jst->

Yes, I do believe the blue portion does have a resister bank of some sort in it, because as you observed it does get warm, and also "can" function without the lights... Just takes an exceptionally long time. The idea behind the lights is to help expedite the "bulk" of the discharge and then when it gets "close" the lights dim / go out, and the resistor bank finishes up the fine tuning. I just wish it was more acurate cell-to-cell, since when I use calibrated units by isdt to check the cells, they are very different then what this device shows. If only they included a way to calibrate with offsets it would have been perfect.

Also regarding the watts, there is an integral relationship between watts, amps, and volts. Calculated if I was showing 108 watts, and I was discharging a 4s pack (16.8volts), that means the system was pulling about 6.4 amps of power. Therefore If I was to hookup a 5s pack (21 volts) with the same amp draw, I would expect to see about 134.4 watts. If I hookup a 6s pack (25.2volts), again with same amp draw, then you would calculate 161.28 watts, but since this caps at 150 watts (at least that is what is printed on it) it would probably lower the amp pull to compensate to around 6 amps. However The short / easy answer I'm going to bet what they mean by watts that they advertise, is that there are three 50watt bulbs so 3x50=150 watts. But as shown above actual wattage depends on amps and volts being used.

@@tronage Yeah, I just did a test with mine and your right, it's off by quite a bit. I set it to 3.85 and I plugged it into my revolectrics charger to see 3.6, 3.9, 3.7. The charger then took like 2 minutes to put it into storage mode. I didn't time how long it took to discharge the 6200mah 3S pack. I got distracted and forgot to check it.

LOL. Yea, If I wasn't filming my test, I probably would have forgot too. Thats why I prefer my FD-200 discharger (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WJmkf9Lm3cI.html). Quick, compact, durable and auto-off. Lacks balancing, but honestly I feel the balancing on the lightbulb one is kinda trash anyway lol.

have you had that happen to you? I thought I was being a little overly cautious, but better to be safe then sorry.

I don't get it the venom balancer and discharger looks exactly the same but black and it will discharge and balance without hooking it up to lights
@tronage

The AOKoda can work without bulbs the exact same way. If you read the description of the venom one very carefully, it lists a 200-450 mA discharge balance function... If you convert that to milliamps to amps, that is 0.2 - 0.45 amps discharge. With the light-bulbs the AOKoda was pulling between 4.0 and 6.0 amps. So without the bulbs it would take about 20 times longer to complete the discharge. There is no magic, the voltage has to go "somewhere". It works without the bulbs but at a very very slow rate, exactly like the venom (inside I'd bet they are identical, just as you said a different colored plastic case). The bulbs just accelerate the process giving a fast "dump" to send the unwanted voltage somewhere to get used up. So it boils down to time, and how long do you want to wait. If it takes say 30 mins to discharge with lightbulbs, it could take 10 hours without.
@trackpackgt877
@trackpackgt877 5 лет назад
tronage oh I see I was wondering if that one could discharge without the bulbs the vids I seen didn't mention if it could or not everyone uses bulbs so I thought it couldn't. Yeah I bet they have resistors in them to discharge the batt but using the bulbs would definitely be way faster but I mainly use mine to balance my lipos.

The only issue I would say is be cautious when using this product to balance. I've checked it's readings with my 20000 counts volt meter, and each "channel" was way off. meaning when you balance using this, it is actually putting your pack out of balance. Granted I could have gotten a bad one, and they could vary from brand to brand. Though typically something like this has the same guts, and just a re-branded case. The channels were off from 0.1v-0.4v from their actual readings. And there is no way to calibrate it to correct for this. That why for balancing I use this: amzn.to/2MSTwRI From the factory it was very close, and it has a calibration mode to allow you to tweak it further so you get an actual perfect balance. That being said it would be worth looking into how accurate yours is for the safety and health of your packs.

@@tronage thanks for this info. I finally broke down and bought one. However, when I plugged in my test 3s lipo it was reading 4.22v on all 3 cells. check it with a multimeter and the cells were 4.20. so yeah the per cell readings are off 0.2v on mine. But hey for $25 its great for discharging!

max wattage measured?
@tronage
@tronage 5 лет назад
In the test on the video, I believe the max wattage measured was about 130w using the equipment I have. If you want to get specific you can watch the time-lapsed part at 1/4 speed and you can see the numbers tick easier.
