The included instruction are not 100% and I had a little difficulty finding information about using the CellMeter 8. I hope this helps anyone wondering how the CellMeter 8 works, where things plug in, and what it can do. I find the tester/discharger actually does the job(s) quite well.

If you don't set the servo testers range you could end up overwriting your servo and strip the gears.It happened to me.I set mine at the 1500 max range,not 2500.Just a word of warning.

Спасибо огромное за полезное видео! У меня есть такой же cellmeter-8 но я его полностью не использовал. Теперь все мне понятно. Хороший финал видео. Да, такое может быть у каждого. Хорошее чувство юмора! Спасибо!

States no less than 4 times on the box that it can do balance, and at 90ma.. i think you should have tested it. It also mention discharge, but you covered that already Thanks for video.

Hi Stephen, lot of thanks for these very clear and instructive explanations! If I only want to balance the battery cells , I choose discharge and as value I select approximatively the voltage of the lowest cell? And for simply balancing must I add a discharge source (like your lamps) or can this device also do it with only battery connected?....If yes will it not be warm? Friendly, Michel from France

Hi: I see you have some experience with the cellmeter 8, and I was wondering if you could answer a question - when NOT connected to the 150W discharge module, does the "discharge indicator on the cellmeter blink or stay solid? The reason I ask is I bought 2 cellmeters and 2 discharge modules, but cant get the discharge modules to work (led on solid, no light bulbs light). and the discharge indicator on the meter is not flashing either. t 1st, I thought that was because the meter wasn't "detecting" the module, but one happy owner told me that the discharge indicator on his meter flashed no matter what. Any knowledge of any of this? Thanks! Dave.

Just got Cell Meter 8, alone, from Amazon. Meter seems OK but won't work with AOKoda module, bulb harness, etc. to fast discharge lipo packs. Returning for replacement, hoping replacement will work with my stock AOKoda setup.

Tried to discharge 2 cell Li-Po battery exactly as described in the video, but it doesn't work. The green light doesn't start to flash when I select "discharge" on CM8, and bulbs are not lighting up. Tried everything, switched red and black cables, connect in different order, nothing helps.

@garygullikson6349

I suspect that red wire on jumper connects to pin marked "S" on meter and black wire to pin marked "--" with no wire to pin marked "+". It looks that way in the video. Tried this on two different CellMeter 8's, from Amazon, Model #LSDZ1, neither worked with AOKoda fast lipo discharge setup. My similar Hobbymate meter and AOKoda discharge combo is working well discharging lipos. Go figure! I kept the replacement Cell Meter 8 to check remaining pack capacity via the graphic and for servo testing.

Hi ! it seems to be called Cellmeter 8 cause many of the other cheap "capacity controller" cheap devices you can find with the same type of format and enclosure are 7 pin in the right side and this one has 8 pin and the extra servo connector, i'm not aware of the differences in detail, just starting to get some info, thank you !

Just like in this demo, I found the cheap Chinesium clone Cellmeter 8 to be a bit flakey and often crashes with random garbage on the display. Also when testing servos, don’t plug the servo in until you set the correct mode and trim pot or it ends up driving your servo hard beyond its limit during the change of modes. For that reason, I have now ordered the genuine Hyperion Sentry 4 at more than twice the price. Reliability costs money.

@markcummings150

@@fennzand yet this video shows that selecting the servo mode is flakey numerous times and has to be repeated to get it to work. So there is a lot of ‘lemons’ around. That’s the problem with playing Chinese craps, you take your chance and you get what you pay for.

I thought that with discharging modul the lamps go of, instead of that, they discharge the batt.further..if you dont watch the voltage goes too low..any sense?

It would be the best...but discharge current does not run through the device which only "reads" voltage fall for beeping.

Sir...i have this cellmeter 8 device..when check my servo....using 5.3 volt in the input ..all works well. But if i stops any action in my cell meter 8 for 5-8 seconds...it automatically disconnects itself from the power source. I didn't got it... whether it's the inbuilt protection function or my cellmeter 8 is defected one?? Can you please tell me sir....i am confused😥

Hello Mr. Stephan Fennell, It was a nice video. I am doing an Electric Vehicle project. I want such type of display for my 48 V 35 AH battery pack of Li-ion chemistry. It is possible to connect this and use for our application.
@fennz

Hi Ravindra. I'm sorry but that is beyond my knowledge. Sounds like this may be out of the range of this product
@Michel-Artois
@Michel-Artois Год назад
Hi, A 48V battery has ...13 S and this device can control 7 S max. Perhaps control the 7 first S and then the 6 others. If it's only for voltage control (to search a balance issue) it's possible. You need two external JST male connectors, one for 7 cells and one for 6 cells....But a multimeter will do the same quickly. And I don't know if this little device can balance such a big Pack if you want to do it... Normally your necessary included BMS must do that. if you want to control the discharge by using, simply install a little voltmeter on your pack.

When you order, you need to be careful wrt whether you're buying JUST the CellMeter 8 blue unit by itself, which is most of the ads I've seen, or the blue CM8 unit PLUS the black interface to the LiPo battery, which also provides the bulbs, socket, and the two wires, which as Stephen pointed out, you don't need the one. You could just use the blue CM 8 box to discharge but it will take an incredibly long time. In the original AOKoda unit, that unused wire was the only wire used in that version.. They changed the blue unit, which I don't like nearly as much as the original. I have both. I just received the CellMeter 8 version today from Banggood and have already tested it out, thanks to Stephen's video. I don't think the AOKoda branded unit is available anymore, even though that was what was pictured on Banggood's website.

@@valkyriep you dont need the bulbs or adapter to discharge. you do just plug the balance plug in and hit discharge like normal. it takes FOREVER but it works the same way
