First time viewer. Nice to see a mature woman “of a certain age” doing a NYC vlog. I follow three RU-vid creators, two of which make it their only job. All are women, 27, 32 and 36. It’s fun to see the differences with production as well as content. The two older vlogers are in NYC and the other is in CA. All of you pay extremely high cost of living where you do. I can’t see it myself but to each his own. I’m currently in Michigan and will be moving to South Carolina within this year. It’s just interesting to see how other live. Thank you for your video.

Yeah - its def feels that way...and I grew up in NYC so sometimes I wonder what it would be like if I was born in another part of this country...my mom was from AZ where she met my Dad and she came here to be an actress....now my daughter is moving back to NY to pursue acting! SC is lovely.

Thank you for taking time to comment! I’ve now seen three of your videos and am “getting to know” you. I appreciate your content already and you have a cool vibe. Kinda hate that type of labeling but I don’t know how else to say it! I lived in Manhattan every summer from age 11-20. My great aunt lived in Hawthorn House (53rd & 3rd) and her daughter, my first cousin, lived in Sutton Place which overlooked the East River. The city back in the 70’s and 80’s was magical to me. Nothing like today. I have no desire to return given all that is happening there with crime. But I don’t want to get political! I’m just so grateful I got to experience the best it had to offer with two women that I adored and loved. My mother was a farm girl and had no interest in visiting. Fortunately my great aunt convinced her it was good for me to see another way to live life. So watching your videos is rewarding in that I’d always daydreamed of living there as I had intended and was planning to move there at age 19- even securing a job! But then I met my husband and married at age 20! After that I visited NYC just once a year on business with an international cosmetics company I worked for for three years. My last trip there was in 1992 when I buried my great auntie. I can’t bring myself to return now that they have both passed. Forgive my excessive sharing. I look forward to your content and wish you all good things to come.

I live in SC, but I'm moving to NYC when I retire in a few years. Not having to have a car in NYC will make up much of the difference in cost of living. So many forget about this difference.

Ha that’s funny. One of the few ;) I would stick with buildings created after 1974 when they had laws and codes to stick adhere to. If you can newer buildings have integrated or can accommodate!

Omg apartment hunting seems so stressful in NYC. I've just watched a young girl Tisha go through this awful time finding her dream home. Phew, those landlords/ your Mayor need to hang their heads in shame charging such high rents with horrible living spaces. Anyway rant over. I think you certainly made the right decision moving in with your Mother❤. I have visited NY twice and both times had a great time, one of my fav cities 😊. It certainly was a culture shock to us coming from the UK. Loved every minute. Thank you for sharing your life i love coming along for the ride with you. Best regards Rosie O from Devon, England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I have been in NYC for 36 yrs and remember when you could rent an apartment with just a pay stub. There was no "income 40x the rent" because rents (at least in the outer boroughs) were affordable for people who weren't CEOs. We answered ads in the Voice- and later on Craigslist- or just visited the neighborhood real estate offices. The first time I was ever charged a broker's fee was 2018. Now there ARE NO affordable apartments- they have mostly been replaced with the over-priced micro-apartments you showed, in fancy buildings with lots of amenities.

When I hear how much people in NYC are paying for rent I am amazed. How do they afford rents of thousands of dollars a month? I am so lucky that I own my own house in Ireland, my property insurance and taxes total for the year are around $2000.

The apartments you were looking at all looked horrible, sorry to say, and the price its robbery. I lived in NYC in the 70's and 80's, which was great, then moved to Europe, then moved back to NYC in 2010, a real wake up call. I was paying an outrageous rent in the East Village for a one bedroom, it was a joke. NYC has got everyone trapped. I left NY in 2021 and moved back to Europe, I have a 'Lovely' apartment overlooking a beautiful park and paying a very decent rent, also the food is Amazing. I love the NYC I once knew, not the new NY .You grew up there so you know old NY. I hope you find a nice apartment but I know how hard it is to find unless you pay that Outrageous rent. Good Luck.
@thisNYCgirl
@thisNYCgirl 3 месяца назад
Agree! Yes, old New York and alphabet city - the grunge and truly a melting pot! Oh the nostalgia! ;) sounds like you’ve got a nice set up. Where in Europe?

@@thisNYCgirl It's such a shame NYC has turned into 'all about the money' city. I'm not against making money but the rents they ask in NY for a nothing space is criminal and that keeps out alot of artists that could live there. In the 70s NYC was filled with great art energy. I live in Greece, it's a beautiful country, with it's challenges of course, but it's affordable and offers more for my income. I hope you find a nice apartment in NY I know how hard it is.

How do people get into a unit in NYC if they illegally get there and expect free accommodation. So expensive.
