Damn! I thought I was all sorted with the next computer I want to purchase and then Apeks comes along - buggers!! Thanks for the indepth unboxing. While at the high end of the price range it certainly has some great features incl. an O2 analyzer. By the way, it's not a USB-2 cable. The large USB connector is known as USB-A.
@@ScubaDiverMagazine Certainly also a consideration for instructors. I like the idea of pairing multiple transmitters in order to be able to keep an eye on my students tanks.
@@waheebrasool8141 Don't hold you breath waiting for a response, as you are not going to get one. They will explain the pros & cons of this device but never say it's superior to X or not as good as Y. They are a retailer and are never going to get onto RU-vid doing comparison videos. It's up to you to make that decision based on the features and you needs.
@@nigelw.9043 Mark used to work for Simply Scuba (a retailer) but now works for Scuba Diver Magazine (a magazine as its name suggests). It is possible they could do a comparison in the future, but I would have thought that would only be after they have had time for some one to dive with it. Ideally they would to a comparison with a few others like the Ratio iX3m etc.
@@bs9692 That is true about Mark and it still throws me off seeing him on this chanel. However, while this is not a retailers YT channel I doubt they want to get into any hot water with claims on which device is better then the other. Looking at the content available they have never posted that type of video.
I don't think it really matters which one is better or not, as they should work on a technical level near identical, however clearly the apeks has a lot more toys thrown into the toy box so to speak which may influence the design team that shearwater to compete which is a good thing. However, we all know that shear waters customer service is second to none and at the moment cannot be matched
This computer seems very much like the Ratio ix3m. It has a lot of the same features. I got the Ratio years ago for the Sidemount setup and the O2 analysis. I do like that Apex includes the sensor from the start. The slates could be very useful and not on the Ratio I have.
Would you be willing to do a video demonstrating how to upload "Slates" to the Apeks DSX via the DiveLog+ App? The current manual for the DiveLog+ doesn't even show support of the Apeks DSX. Would appreciate it!
it also seems to assume you won't be changing diving styles with your transmitters. If you switch from SM mode to an OC dive you'll find selecting a gas shows no transmitter available even though you previously assigned TMT#1 and #2 when you were in SM mode. If you try to declare TMT#1 as your gas for the now OC configuration it will give you an alert stating: "TMT1 is already linked to OC-L 21/00. If you link it to OC-1, OC-L will be set to NO TMT" That didn't seem much of an issue on the Perdix. I'm not sure I understand the reasoning on this one.
As Lee says: it only works on the surface. So, you can log your entry and exit points and navigate on the surface. We don't have underwater GPS quite yet. there are a couple of systems but, they're not widespread yet.
@@ScubaDiverMagazine If you could combine a GPS tether to the surface and combine it with cmor mapping. Then be able to mount it to a DPV you would own the market.
Hello,I have a question. Have you synchronized the Apeks DSX with the transmitter? I'm asking because I synchronized mine, but it doesn't show me the air level in the cylinder at all on the display when I'm on the surface or underwater. I'm wondering why this is happening.
I love my i770r when it works! I’ve had to send it back for warranty claim as it wasn’t logging dives or giving me the correct information when diving!… I hope the dsx doesn’t have similar faults!
My information is (from high ranked aqua lung staff) they are in a factory in france and ready for launch in europe but they still need an update and after that we can have it. It seems some are on the marked already but without the update. I consider buying shearwater (Perdix 2 or Petrel 3) or the DSX can you help me with that decision? Comparison would be soooo juicy and can you tell us how big the display is vs shearwater ? thanks for your great video!
The DSX, Petrel 3.0 and the Perdix 2.0 all have very similar screen sizes. Perdix is the smallest with a 2.2" Screen, Petrel is the largest at 2.6" and DSX in the middle at 2.4". The screen quality most divers wouldn't notice a huge difference between them but, the Petrel 3.0 has the AMOLED screen. They're all on par with each other as far as overall diving features. The DSX however does have GPS, O2 analysis, rechargeable battery, sidemount mode and the extra alarms you can set. GPS isn't a deal breaker for me, I don't know how much I would use that feature. O2 analysis is another cool feature but, if you already have an analyser you now have two. Rechargeable battery is a double-edged-sword; it's nice to top up the battery between dives but, they do eventually lose their charge. They're all great. I'll be biased towards the Perdix, I have the greatest dive count on the Perdix and I like how sleek it is on the wrist, the DSX would be the most 'technical' and has a better UI with that 3rd button. It comes down to how much you would use those advanced technical features and if the additional cost is worth it.
@@ScubaDiverMagazine Thanks for your answer ! The price between Perdix 2 and DSX is pretty similar atleast in Germany. But beside the price would you say the dsx or the perdix is the better one ?
I'm not sure if I am being stupid, but there is a significant flaw in the GPS. I'm going to Malta soon, doing shore dives, and I wanted to put some of the dive sites' GPS locations into the wayfinder. It appears that you can only use this feature if you have previously been to the location and saved it in the computer, which seems to defeat the object of the way finder, or am I being stupid?
Use the GPS to store your location and use the way finder to return to that location. For example, if you found a wreck and want to return to the same spot.
I'm bewildered as to why Apeks would invest a shedload of money in developing and producing this computer when Shearwater own the tech diving computer market. What they've ended up with is something that does what a Perdix AI does plus a few little tweaks on top but which costs a lot more.
