For best results just drill down a little with the bit not to go all the way through. You just need a hole for the screw to start.

I duct-taped a lot of coaster wheels to the bottom of my dobsonian years ago. This would've been nice to have had then!

Ohh wow, awesome idea!! I like the fact that us amateurs have options other than the current Dob dollies on the market that seem to be well made yet extremely expensive. I probably won't get these for my AD8 since it's not too bad to carry (base & OTA separate) and the added height probably wouldn't work well with the observing chair I use with it, but that AD12 that's in my very near future is definitely get a set!!

I am just curious at stability on inclines and over door thresholds.

Nice idea but... Won't the weight of the scope tend to pull the plate mounting screws out of the ground board over time?

"Hi! Thanks for the comment and that's a good question! This was designed with that consideration in mind, and subsequently tested by one of our 210lb techs jumping up and down on the assembled base (don't tell OSHA) for a considerable time without any damage to the base or the screw holes! We're confident the weight of the AD8, AD10, and AD12's won't be an issue over time!"

@@highpointscientific perhaps consider some triangular cross-bar to connect the three plates together to prevent them from levering out over time? I could see this being really useful on the heavier 14" and 16" dobs but right now they seem like they might yaw out of the particle board since you'd be creating a lever arm around the edge of the board. if the 3 plates could be bolted together with an adjustable metal centerpiece (to fit different size baseplates), that wouldn't be a concern.
