Please read the description~ ~~ Sorry the beginning is so awful. Japan saying he will dye his hair blond is NOT a translation error. Japan is becoming increasingly westernized and is losing it's traditions, etc.
This song actually has a deeper meaning to it, once I listened to it a few times. The first time I thought he was starting to grow an interest for America or Canada, but then I realized that it meant that America and Europe were slowly "westernizing" him. Now I'm not sure whether this song has a good meaning or a bad meaning, but it's still catchy.
Aditi Rao Yeah, Japan is becoming westernized. I remember hearing that someone said a Japanese lady told them that she visited America, and everything was so familiar, but she then went to Europe, and stuff was different from what she was used to in America and Japan. Japan and America seem to be friendly countries with each other, they're v similar. People just don't realize it very often.
+Yuna Ahn YES I don't want to have Japan become another America before I grow old enough to have enough money to 1. Pay for a flight to Japan 2. Pay for a translator(I know only a handful of Japanese). I'd rather have it the other way around, where Japan, was, erm, Japanizing America?
It seems the main focus of the song is how Japan has adapted and integrated into Western Culture, but has retained its original culture and will likely never lose it. A good message.
I don't think the message is that positive. To me it feels more like Japan is struggling to balance the need to adapt to a westernized world and his attachment and love for his own culture that he doesn't want to let go of. In the song he keeps talking about traditional habits, then switches to an apparently enthusiastic tone where he lists things he likes doing that are related to the Western world, but then the last line is always about Japan switching back to a more traditional/conservative attitude and he apologizes for it. I don't think this song has either a positive or negative message, but it describes the troubles of a Country that had to adapt quickly to a globalised, westernized world in order to hold importance in it and how this caused Japan to always walk on a thin line between innovation and tradition, scared both of losing his identity and lose his international relevance.
@@xxAryAryxx Nah, he's apologising for liking western and cute things! No one really _wants_ to be Westernised! There is a stereotype that "everyone hates America" you know. Everyone values their culture, and that's what Japan is currently going through; the people are loosing their culture. Everyone likes tradition basically, and no one would apologise for it. Apologising for being Westernised? Hell yeah. I can understand why you would interpret it like that but Japan apologies during the "enthusiastic tone".
(srry for the late reply) That line is sort of mis-translated. He is actually saying his hair will be gray/white by tomarrow. He is saying that he is getting old.
Germany: WHO DID ZIS TO YOU?!?! *shakes him vigorously* Japan: You're in my personar space! Italy: veee~ who's this? *points to Japan* Germany: It's Japan, Italy. It's Japan.
Lol yeah no I bet a majority of people would not actually like to see what REALLY hides behind his facade of innocence. Especially when the anime mainly takes place in the time of WW2!
Whoa...i really really like what's fashionable? My straight black hair will be blond by tomorrow? I really really like western cooking?! He's turning into France!🇯🇵➡🇫🇷
The reason I love this song so much is that it shows that even though he might seem stiff and boring, Japan is one of the funnest countries. Just look at the stuff he makes!
Like karitherusski said: "guys read the desc. japan saying he will dye his hair blonde is not a translation error, it's referring to japan loosing their original traditions to the western traditions, and it also technically is a stereotype because "dyeing hair blonde" is saying that all western people are all blonde, and that is what it is referring to. now stop crying about japan being blonde. it's not gonna happen."
Poor Japan, being westernized... Thinking about dying his hair blonde... Western cooking... Christmas... *shivers* Yup, America is stripping him of his innocence. That's why he can't see the Japanese spirits anymore.
it's kind of sad that while people are gettin ready for Christmas im just there locked in my room crying like a bish over characters that don't even exist.
When you feel to much nostalgia you accidentally barf out all those tumblr memes you've been looking at for the pat year and focus on you little fandom you ignored for like 2 years.
I just watched the video of the seiyuu event 2011, in which Japan's seiyuu performed this. And he danced. It was awesome! I've watched that two hour amazing video again and again mainly to see that again! It was awesome! And hilarious! And more than sort of adorable..!
Um, I don't think there's a video of just that. You'll have to either watch the whole 2-hour video of the event (don't worry, it's subbed) or look through the comments on that video to find the time you have to turn to to see just that part. Sorry. If I remember what time in that video it was at, I'll tell you. But you should watch the entire 2011 seiyuu event, the whole thing was gold!
me:-jamming to this song- *my hair will be blond by tomorrow* me:EH?! O___- *after celebrating christmas~* me:WHA?! since when? *I really like western cooking~* me: O___O America? wait! I thought this is japan's song! Da fuq is going on?
Neon Scarfy Yeah, Japan and America actually are v similar, but usually people don't realize it. Japan is becoming westernized. (I remember seeing a Japanese lady's comment about something, she said that she went to America, and many things were the same so she was easily able to understand what to do, but then went to Europe, and was confused, because it was very different)
I love this so much! The contrast between the verses and the chorus is quite unexpected so makes it even better! I love singing along to this but I'm not sure anyone but Japan can do it justice!
Mother Russia So you ship America with South Korea, England, France, Canada, Prussia, Germany, Japan, Romano, Italy, Belarus, Lithuania, Seychelles, Russia, and all their nyos? Because I do. :3 (I know it's really sad how many ships I have for America I'm not even sure I got all of them down)
basically, this song is about westernizing japan, but japan still chooses to retain his tradition. japan then keeps apologizing for the fact that 'the minority can't control him', and he keeps apologizing because he wants to retain tradition. basically him in his own way saying 'ahaha fuck you' politely.
Who loves Japan more than me? I literally have a friend who acts and looks like him, then I bought him a Japan cosplay costume and fangirl so much while he stood there confused until I told him what was happening. All my friends are the human physical embodiment of Hetalia, I think that I'm super lucky!!!🇯🇵
I have a Fem!Japan with glasses. She acts just like Sakura, except she's from Florida. Then I have a redhead who eats like America, has the ego of America, but acts like South Italy. (Female as well.) There's a real sweet blonde girl who I bought a bow for who, when angry, acts like Belarus and is obsessed with a boy who isn't her brother but they're close like that. There's a girl who has a valley girl accent, short blonde hair, loves fashion and talks too much. Literally the female real life embodiment of Poland. (And her best friend is Lithuania.) And then there's me. I'm Puerto Rican, so I'm America's little cousin, but I act like Fem!Prussia with long hair. But dark, not silver. I have a male Hungary that always hangs around me and we're like cat and dog, but love each other like siblings. HETALIA EXISTS!!! HOLY PASTA!!!!!
I absolutely love the way the lyrics of this song flow (in the verses especially) and that makes it one of my all time favourites within Hetalia character songs
Oh my gosh. X3 after that extremely dramatic beginning, "I love everything new! :D I really really like what's fashionable!" I honestly didn't expect that X3
This song actually is pretty deep, if you think about it. It is one of my favorites for a reason, though I don't care much for this show as I did when young.
Seems I'm a little late to this convo, but I love your voice too. Your songs are all so amazing. I always end up feeling sad when you talk about having to adapt to a changing world and to Western customs...I just get so worried you're going to lose yourself if you try too hard to keep up. ;-;
.....D: guys we can't let Japan become more western, IT JUST NOT OK. he needs his traditions. so, just....IDONTKNOW ;-; I am sorry, I get worked up about things.....too worked up...
Yokomoji ryouri is a nice play on words, yokomoji in Japanese means western style of writing as in sideways as written in the west. Tatemoji is how Japanese is traditionally written especially in books up to down. Seiyo is the word for western in Japanese but they decided to write yokomoji ryouri, ryouri meaning cooking btw
Japan, dear don't change yourself. If you had blonde hair it would look strange. If you were loud you would get on my nerves. And if you lost yourself. I'd lose a friend I never met. Besides we both have black hair we can match!
I'm totally addicted to this song! The way he sings the bubbly sparkly chorus with his cool, stoic and seemingly emotionless yet totally enjoying himself voice. XD
This is me memorizing the song, feel free to ignore Day 1, August 13 2024) I have up until 1:40 done at decent quality, there are a few parts where my tongue gets tied but I’m getting better at them. I’m also doing well for a guy who’s about to fall asleep any moment (it’s 11PM)
I love the irony: I'm doing spanish and when I hear this song, I have to translate "Disculpe, lo siento" Yeah, you have the answer in the title of the song *Shot*
Japan is constantly getting more westernized, especially due to relations with the USA (Its the same as the USA's obsession with anime and manga). So that is where he gets that idea from.
don't wrry Japan ur not one, people r just jealous that your amazing and that you have the life you have right now they just want to be like you. -keep on flying angelknight
+CC Starry didn't England? I mean before when he respected China, and then the Opium war happended and China lost so he lost respect for him and followed England? idk
i dont think they mentioned the opium war in hetalia? me and my friend were just disscussing on stuff. and yeah japan did turn on china in world war 2 cause they wanted to be more like the western world.and the more china got beaten up by europe after the opium war, the more japan wanted to be just like them
Bobby I might as well ship FrUKUS. I ship FrUK, USUK, and FrUS, though I don't ship all three of them together. (I'm probably going to end up shipping all three of them tho)
People think this song is about Japan losing his culture, but I think what it is trying to say is that, though Japan loves modern things and stuff, he will still have his culture no matter what! ^ - ^
