Aphasia: At a Loss for Words

Alan Gazlay always has a kind word or two; getting them out is another story. Every syllable is a labor. His mind is willing, but his voice is not.
"He had a stroke five years ago in July. It was a massive stroke and he's paralyzed on his right side and he can't speak. He has the aphasia," says Crystal Gazlay, his wife.
A common after-effect of stroke, aphasia affects one in four survivors. It's a language disorder that leaves them at a loss for words.
"Aphasia is a neurological disorder and it impacts the center of the brain that controls language," says Mary Jo Haughey, a speech therapist with Lee Memorial Health System.
"I've seen patients that were non-verbal, speaking with one word, and then become fully fluent. But it does depend on the extent of damage on the brain," says Haughey.
Some people may never fully regain their ability to speak; but it doesn't mean they can't communicate. Therapists can teach them to use a computer device that simulates speech.
"It's wonderful, it does so many things. His speech therapist is working with him to be able to learn to push a button of the picture and it will come up with different phrases," says Gazlay.
"Sometimes that's hard for people to accept in the beginning because they want the oral language. But I've just had a few patients that I'm using it with and it's like I have this voice, I can speak," says Haughey.
Technology coupled with desire, is giving voice to a silent population.

I have aphasia after going through 9-months of chemotherapy. It’s hard for me to get my words out and form complete sentences. I get so embarrassed talking to people, especially new people because I paused every second trying to think of words to say and then I get frustrated because I don’t remember the word. /:

luckily my aphasia was not caused by a stroke, but by a complex migraine (a rare migraine that mimics a stroke) I’m on my 5th day of aphasia and it’s honestly incredibly annoying. I know exactly what I want to say in my Brain, but when it comes to saying it out loud I forget all my words and every syllable is a challenge. Don’t know how long it’s going to last.

Being a medical student, I always prefer allopathy but when I suffered from Dysphasia and use allopathy medicines for long and did not get a result. I changed my line of treatment and choose Ayurveda. I took treatment from Planet Ayurveda and got effective results.

One-off my strokes I couldn't understand English. Another aphasia. Another one arm I could poorly move With right hand, once I couldn't read frosty the snowman book. Fish oil and coconut oil and patience
@debbiramsey4603
@debbiramsey4603 4 года назад
I've had this. I've also had multiple strokes. Coconut oil and fish oil cause brain cell generation. Army looking into coconut oil in a more advanced method but it works. I take both. At first Anguage is jumpbled. Slowly recovers. Try to walk or some exercise 20 minutes a day when u can build up to it. It will release BDNF a brain growth factor. If u cam get up to 40 minutes it will release another factor. One is testoseterone another is growth hormone. Take a nulti vitamin with minerals. They will worth better together. If u can't walk don't panic. Take the coconut and fish oil. If u had a stroke addicting a limb doctors will now tell u to move the weak limb. The brain is relearning a new path way to make things work or repair. It's like a big boulder in the way. It's going to find that new path. I couldn't understand English. Try to do something if u can't walk. I couldnt ready frosty the snowman. This is a jumble of things. I still don't think really right. Improving. Go be baptised under the water friend. Verses show this is correct. Many deceives. There is something awful under that darkness I'm sure I had a nde. The light. The beautiful blue.
