Context: It was mid 90's, Costa Rica, I came home running after smoking weed to record a tv show in VHS called Oxigeno (oxygen), they use to program early electronic music (Banco de Gaia, FSOL, Da Hool, Yum Yum, etc)...I opened the door and my mom was still awake, so I asked her if it was ok for me to use the TV to record whatever they program and she said "of course", I set up the VHS cassette and hit record, this track comes out and I was mesmerized! (And high AF!) I remember falling in love with the video and sound, it's a very cherish memory of me and my mother together, late at night, just chilling...the future was bright, no worries at all, not bad for an endless summer night in paradise...
Superb. Full on programming. Depth of sound is unreal. Don’t get that from modern bollox that anyone can get a PC to do for em with no emotion involved. ❤
Yes & the Aphex symbol appears in the Ugly Boy video, any artists active in the late 80's / early 90's like Aphex would actually love & appreciate that, because everyone was sampling each others riffs back then, they were paying homage to him through that - the roots of acid / rave culture ('acid burn' was a lifted sample, years before acid became a euphomism for LSD). Liam Howlett ended it all with Prodigy - 'Charly' in 1991, because it was such a good tune, sampling a public information film, everyone tried copying him and it led to 'Toytown Techno' which killed the scene, an entire generation all living for rave, then it ended, he's been trying to bring it all back since 2009, maybe Aphex should give it a go
I hear a-lot that this song sounds so ahead of its time, I’ve always felt that it doesn’t sound ahead or of its time or anytime really. It sounds completely like its own time.
I’ve been listening to this track for 32 years now…. it’ll be played in 320 years and still sound fresh. In 3200 years it’ll be earths remaining heartbeat long after we’ve wiped ourselves out. In 32000 years earth will be known as Ageispolis and Richard’s work will be complete. Kudos.
Richard David James (Aphex Twin's real name) was actually in the official Ugly Boy video. Die Antwoord had RDJ's permission to use this track and invited him to be in the video.
Ninja has the Aphex Twin logo tattooed on his forearm. The guy dancing with the hoodie "My name is: GOD" is related to the song windowlicker. Watch.... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UBS4Gi1y_nc.html
i always throw it down crazy robot style spaghetti man with this damn 808 slammin hot beat and cheeky melody. And less not forget that slop sshlop bass smacking both me and the mix
I'm just here from Die Antwoord's Ugly Boy cuz my DJ friend played this song and then he told me, "Wtf are you talking about, that's Aphex Twin!" Meanwhile I'm just "No way!!!"
Die Antwoord do an insane version and suddenly everyone realise that it's such a genius track that it really doesn't matter who messes with it - it'll always be beautiful! It will always be perfect. It will last forever.
