The apollo 250 rx is not terrible when you first buy it but its overweight and underpowered. however, doing these steps will definitely make help your China bike out perform it's Japanese counterpart.
1. Port and polish heads
2. Install a pwk30 carb, preferably with the flange to bolt up to the stock intake manifold.
3. remove the airbox/batter holster and Install better airfilter and lithium battery
4. Delete Emissions components and catalytic converter
5. Install a high performance camshaft, I chose Web Cams 340/402
6. Athena big bore kit with 11.9:1 piston
7. Install a fully adjustable CDI box and E3 diamond fire spark plug.
*Recommended:
8. Upgrade Clutch or get stronger springs.
9. Upgrade rear shock with adjustable shock. I know you can use a kx250 or crf250 shock but a little grinding may be necessary to make it fit.
10. replace stock grips and levers
