Apollo was VERY HARD on comedians! If you didn't make them laugh in the first 10 seconds, it was a wrap!

Facts! So many times I’d see comedians start to get booed & they’d try to wait it out, or they’d ask the audience to give them a chance…I’m like, no dawg, your ‘chance’ was that you got to walk out onto that stage to begin with! Move onto your next joke or get off the stage!!

This is one of the reasons why comedians shouldn't try to be on Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater. Just like Paulara Hawkins, you will be booed after your first joke. If anyone asks you to name all of the comedians who have done well at the Apollo Theater, then you will have a short list. If someone asks you to name all of the comedians who have bombed big time at the Apollo Theater, then you will be talking to that person for 18 months.

I don’t know! She was not funny at all…but there were lots of contestants that Steve recruited from his other jobs in Chicago & DFW, or on the road with his standup act, and a lot of those contestants were not good.
