I'd recommend if the cells have been to 0 volts their ultimate lifespan has been shortened. My buddies ghost battery was lucky as his pack was just out of balance so I manually balanced each bank of cells. If they had been 0 I'd just have replaced those due to how much work it is to open deck, remove battery, open battery, test each bank, then repair and reassemble everything. Great video 👍

Yes I was thinking the same at first, but I wanna see if how long it will last if I just revived them, if happens again, I will replace the rest of the 8 cells but so far battery is still going ng strong. Anyway Ghost has a shorter cells, what is the number of the cell and how many cells?

If I am going to manually balance the cell bank, do I have to disconnect any battery tab and balancing wire before hooking up a charger to the battery cell ?

@@jrepairman I would recommend disconnecting the balancing wire but for the tab, you do not have to, just take note that you are manually charging the whole group of cells so that will take time depending on your charger.

I just upgraded my V1 phantom ( 60 volt ), with the V3 upgrade kit. Had to convert my battery to 52 volt ( 14 s ) using a Daly 60 amp bms ( common port ) The 60 volt battery has 16 parallel groups so just had to cut off two from the end. Again cheaper than a new battery from Apollo.

I assume that its less cell in a group because its 60 volts, how many cells in a group?

@@ruvrandomusefulvideos Same number of cells in each group ( 8). The 60 volt has 16 groups each of 8 cells ( 128 cells), the 52 now has 14 groups each of 8 cells ( 112 cells). Each parallel group of 8 cells is linear, whereas your battery has cells in an array ( 3 x 3 ).

No, Ghost has shorter cells. I'm actually thinking to open the battery to see what cell it uses

This is great, thanks so much! My Phantom V3 has a battery pack with about 1000 miles on it, so it dies quite fast. Where did you source those Samsung ICR18650-26F cells from? As far as building an entirely new pack, do you think it would be possible to use to use larger capacity 18650 cells to fit in the same form factor, or would the increased capacity cause issues with the BMS?

I bought the battery from private seller FB marketplace. As long as you build a 3.7v 14s battery pack (52 volts), capacity won't affect the stock BMS. If the maximum current discharge of the battery is higher than the BMS, then the discharge will be limited according to the maximum discharge of the BMS. Let's say that your battery has a maximum discharge of 50C, you can use 40 amp BMS so your battery is not stressed. That said the load should also be 40 amps or lower or the BMS will shut down if the current limit is exceeded.

@@ruvrandomusefulvideos Okay, interesting. How do you determine the max discharge of the BMS for the stock phantom batteries? Seems like I can find LG mh1 3200mAh cells pretty easily and cheaply, but with 3.63 nominal voltage and 10A max. discharge I don't know if they'd be suitable for a rebuild using an original BMS.

I am also puzzled my self because the original BMS doesn't even have a label on it. Phantom battery is 1,216 watts/23.4Ah/52v. My understanding is battery pack and BMS should be higher than the controller can demand so that they are not stressed. Saying that I would assume that the original BMS is may be at least 40-50Ah But don't take my word on that, sorry I didn't think I really answer your question but I do don't want to give you wrong information as well, and if you have any info please share it here, I am also trying to improve my knowledge about this stuff.

Did you happen to record what type of cells were in there? Mine also took about 10 months to die. I mean it would still work, but it would only charge to about 80% and would die at 35%. Obviously some dead cells. I just ended up buying one with some decent LG cells instead.
