Jill Jones is a class act. No matter who interviews her, I want to hear it. She always comes across as a very honest and truthful person who gives it to us straight. She was one of Prince’s protégés who could actually sing. Wishing nothing but great things for Jill…

I teared up when she talked about all the time that was squandered and I've been there 💔🥺 she is keeping it 💯 she truly cared about prince and you feel the love she has for him - very engaging interview-its so funny too because of the stories behind the scenes--God bless you Jill 🙏🏻👌🏻❤️ you're an amazing woman - you made purple 🟣💜 history--such an incredible group of talent

What's interesting is when Jill said the children was dressed like Prince. They learned about him in school. Prince really put Minneapolis on that map with his friends. He revolutionized music. So when Jill said their were people who was mad about his success. A Black man who became so popular, and was conducive to the town. He even transitioned in the town. He was philanthropic. It would be shameful for them to try and erase his history. We will not allow them too. He was integral for unity on sight. Prince was complex, but his message was always the same. Love 4 one another.

The thing about this show, along with Toure’s books, various interviews/books from Morris, W&L, etc etc… it shows that this was simply a hard-working man from Minneapolis who essentially felt abandoned since childhood, and while yes, he was no saint, but he, quite literally, risked his life for music. Because he was a FIEND for it. To the very end. So, all of that to say, Apples, JJ, The Revolution, Morris, Jerome, etc, they deserve the right to tell the real stories. They all basically knew him before he got the Purple Glow. 😎💯 It’s all love, at the end of the day. He knows this too, wherever he is.

Jill Jones's 1987 album is truly one of the gems of Paisley Park! I was listening to the "Originals" album and reading the liner notes on the CD's booklet, the original recording for Manic Monday features both Jill and Brenda Bennett on backing vocals. They sound so good together! I would love to see a concert of both of them where they sang some songs from Vanity 6, Apollonia 6 and Jill's solo album.

Wow so amazing to hear these stories! Really amazing to put the pieces together from how things were back in the day to how things are even now ! Especially at the age people were during this time it had to be really difficult unless you knew deep down where and how you fit into the whole dynamic and were able to rise above it somehow but it still had to take a lot to basically manipulate your own mind to really find your way especially beyond ☔️I’m so glad to see you both came through this time it was alot!

Thanks for this Apples. This was so great. I wish you and Jill would write books about the Prince Camp during your time period with him. This was the most interesting time of Prince to me. Jill with the 1999 era stories and your collaborating with the Purple Rain era stories. You should also bring Cat on to tell her stories. She has some interesting stories too. I heard give a two part interview on a podcast about prince and all the women, the talent, stories. How he balanced all these girls at the same time. I always wondered if they knew about each other and just dealt with it or wondered if they all hated each other because they were competing for this man’s attention.
@saa9099
@saa9099 2 года назад
Melbelle, jill has said several times the 3-4 girls all knew prince was sleeping with them all, and was resentful with each other. but he owned a record company and they all wanted to be launched with hit singles. So if they stayed on their's a chance it could happen and prince rewarded himself with loving on them. To hear prince, he was a good lover. They could leave and and have no chance of being heard on the radio. It's a tight spot to be in, but it has always been a Man's world, like that. Shelia got 2 hit singles from prince, but he promoted her songs and sang them in his concerts. He was self centered, but could belt out some great songs.

you can tell that these ladies live completely different lives and are very different in personal traits...yet they both respect the differences in eachother and acknowledge they both have a great connection from their work with prince...its refreshing to see women of this age carry themselves with beauty and dignity in an age appropriate way...Im not gonna bring her name up , but watching a particular singer in her 60s still trying to act like she is 24 is nauseating.....these women look young and beautiful in a classy way. I'm so impressed with how they carry themselves. Two beautiful women with dignity...I find them more attractive now than I did 40 years ago....Seth. my father was the bass player and one of the singers in a 60s band who had some hits in the early part of the 60s...I grew up in the 70s and 80s surrounded by music much the way you did.. he is the only original member still around and he gigs till this day...the way you put your mom over was beautiful...reminds me of the pride I have in my father...you are a good man with no ego..just a real cat...I wish you all the success in the world.

I finished today the second part of your interview with Jill Jones. It is nice to hear from her how it was like to work and live around Prince and how things happened on the set of Purple Rain. And it is nice to hear her speak about Prince's qualities and flaws. Because it is important to remember that behind the music and the songs and the films was a human being, with good and bad moments in his life; a man who did decisions that were not always the most positive for people around him, but who also did great things for them and for others. Thank you Jill for giving your perspective around Prince; and thank you Apollonia and Seth for doing this interview.

This confirms what I was thinking about Prince and Wendy's sister when Prince told her that he didn't want her to be the staring love interest in Under The Cherry Moon because he wanted to marry her instead. Prince manipulated Susan's emotions to move her out the way to bring in the white chick as a ulterior motive to up his movie career and it backed fired on him. Pretty much like Warner Brothers tried to replace Prince with John Travolta to act in Prince's character in Purple Rain. Which was a joke. Let's face it... Prince definitely has some narcissistic personality disorders going on in his years.

Jill I just heard over the weekend prince's concert in 2014, first time hearing this one where he starts the song She's always in my hair. "maybe I'll marry her maybe I won't". I didn't know that line was in there until I heard you say it. Paraphrasing, because I don't remember the next line, "I should've married her " I shouldn't quote that, I don't remember. But I'm sure that's what he meant. He sang that song almost every tour, thinking about you. The one that got away. I'm sure you couldn't tamed the 30 year old anyway. At least you have the memories. Love the podcast people. Oh, if I could ask jill one question it would be "why didn't prince release his vocal guide for nothing compares to you? In the 30 years he sat on it. 1st, I can't believe he recorded that in a warehouse, it sounds really good. 2nd it might be one of prince's best songs ever. I really love that song. Just the guide should of went to #1.

Jill made a great point about Prince not realizing what he had at Paisley Park, and those producers went to greater heights with Jody and Janet. I had to chuckle at myself because I had watched the Chic in Japan tour and didn't realize that was the same Jill Jones! The dude needs to be better with his presentation. Every time he opens his mouth, its like a rain delay.

Of course Prince “realized” what he had. People in his bands were there because they were that good. We all would like to think he could or would see the sheer talent in Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. I say he DID see and knew that he could not contain them. Prince wanted things HIS WAY or no way. They were too talented to work underneath his rule. They eventually were going to have to leave. Same with Dez, Andre, BrownMark, Wendy and Lisa, Jesse Johnson, and whoever else worked with him. (There are more I know) Prince worked with talented people, you had to know you sh*t to work in a Prince band. Look at that list of names, pretty much all of them put out records or produced award winning records-Like Janet and Jody, Jimmy and Terry, and Andre sold millions and brought home hardware. Prince knew what he had, he wouldn’t have worked with them if they weren’t so talented. Prince could have utilized them better but he was not in the headspace to allow people that much freedom. In my perfect imagination I see Prince as kind of like the Minneapolis version of Tyler Perry. Prince could have been the boss of a stable of Grammy winning,money making producers and artists. Imagine if Andre, Wendy and Lisa, Jimmy and Terry, had all the work they have done under a Prince umbrella? Paisley Park is too small to contain all the talent.
