Does anyone wonder why it’s so common these days for dogs to have allergies? When I was a kid I never heard of a dog having allergies (not that it didn’t happen) but another thing I’ve noticed is that people didn’t take their dog to the vet unless they were having a problem. I didn’t know anyone who took their dogs for annual exams. Now most dog owners go regularly. I believe dogs are getting way too many unnecessary vaccines these days that THAT is what’s contributing to their allergies. Not only that but also all of the exposure they’re getting to 5G, wifi, etc. Dr. Jones has talked about the vaccines before and I see his point. Also, the amount of a rabies shot are all the same, whether you have a 5 pound dog or a 100 pound dog! How could that be? No wonder the little ones are getting so sick. Also, a rabies shot should be a one and done FOR LIFE! Just like all of the atrocities going on in the human medical world right now, it’s been going on in the animal hospitals too. Zoetis, part of Pfizer should tell you all you ought to know.

Probably the same reason it’s like this with kids today. There was a study done at least 10+ years ago about why Israeli children were not developing peanut allergies when it became very common in the ready of the world. Turns out Israeli moms give their infants a peanut based snack called Bamba (which is DELISH! It’s similar to cheese puffs but peanut butter flavored - or you can get other flavors too) at a very young age to suck on. By introducing a wide variety of ingredients early in the first 1-2 years, children are less prone to developing allergies. Sadly, most parents don’t really do what my mom, her mom, and generations before did to introduce many types of foods early. And parents being fearful of these allergies started not giving their children these allergens and it only made the allergies more likely to develop. I tend to think it’s similar with dogs. Dogs are most likely to develop allergies between 2-3 years old. People aren’t introducing a wide variety of food to their puppies early on, so many are developing these food allergies as a result when they finally get to try something new later on - and often what they weren’t allergic to ends up becoming an allergen as well because the system is so utterly inflamed. My boy is insanely allergic to practically everything, which developed several months after I brought him home from his service dog school in 2017. He was probably mostly getting the same food and training treats until he came home with me and I started giving him new treats (I kept his food the same). I always think the move must have set him off too. He also has wicked environmental allergies am that developed at the same time. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that he started showing symptoms soon after I brought him from living in PA to NYC. He had a bit of a hacking phlegmy cough even in PA, but the symptoms exploded once fall hit in NYC. Different trees, grasses, molds that he was never exposed to likely did that. He was incessantly scratching, chewing himself up, ripping his fur out, and making himself bleed. So the vet did an allergy test and he was off the charts to begin with. We eventually found a happy medium but his symptoms changed drastically again two years ago, and he’s even more off the charts despite my doing everything the vet has said to do (he specialize in allergies). I keep him as comfortable as possible, but it’s a coNetanya battle. Might vaccines play a role? I haven’t seen any studies linking them with food or environmental allergies. Anything is possible, though!

@@chantellewilson9497 you are right! Growing up we had a dog who ate whatever we ate. I’m not saying all of it was good to feed. That dog liked pickles and his morning coffee at the table with my mom! No joke. Our next dog was fed dog food and had horrendous allergies. She was on prednisone and blew up like a balloon, also getting almost no relief from it. Died at 10 while my first dog was 13. Similar size/breed too. Can you tell me what you feed your dog and how you prepare it?

Thank you for always being one step ahead of a system that intentionally causes us to feel guilty if we're not purchasing an unnecessary amount of overpriced medications for our fur babies. Luke was put on apoquel for mild seasonal allergy itching. I will admit it worked very well on his Frito feet, LOL but is ridiculously expensive and oddly enough he seems to be itching his body more than he used to. I'm wondering if it's drying out his skin. Anyway very excited about this new option. You're the best.

Mine is on it too but what they fail to tell you is how dangerous the drug is! I use it sparingly but Dr. Jones advice about giving Bioactive Quercetin EMIQ 50mg. 1-2x as needed or even daily is helping my dog! Granted it’s not enough for her worst time of year (late summer/early fall) but it does help. I’m hoping it’ll help totally the other months where I don’t have to give her Apoquel at all but that remains to be seen since I just started her on the Bioactive Quercetin a month ago. I’m also going to try this stuff he’s advising. 😊

The cytopoint doesn’t seem to be working as well as it did when we first started doing it 4 years ago, unfortunately. We have done a few days of apoquel here and there but after a particularly bad infection while he was on it, I read up on the suppression of the immune system that it causes so I haven’t given it to him since. I paused it and took a couple screenshots. What I see that the bottle says is “Sterols & Sterolins Cholesterol.” I couldn’t make out the name brand. Maybe someone else can help figure that out. I just bought Beta Sitosterol made by Nutricost for my dog to try but I’ve only given her one dose so far.

The only bad this about this is their shipping it took 8 days for me to get it in the US. Customer service is horrible. I just stared 4 of my Goldens on this product. I will come back and keep everyone posted to see if it works for my dogs.

@VeterinarySecrets No problem 😊 thank you. I do have a question on another product you recommended. I'm giving beta-sitosterol along with your product. Does beta-sitosterol reduce testosterone in male dogs? I'm giving it to my females and males, who i intend to breed and read, that it affects testosterone in humans as well as animals. In giving it for environmental allergies , I don't want this affecting the males sperm production and my female. Can you advise? Should i stop beta-sitosterol if i intend to breed? Do v you recommend another product instead? Quercetin doesn't do anything to my dog's I'm out of options. Thank you so much.

How do we know if it’s environmental? I read that any foods with tapioca, potatoes or anything that turns into sugar causes yeast and itchiness. So how do we differentiate them?

I am only just muddling my way through the slodge of information myself, so take what I say with a grain of salt, but from what I gather, you start your dog on a diet with a novel protein and limited ingredients, free of common allergens like chicken, beef, eggs, wheat, and soy. You let them only eat this for like 6-8 weeks and see if the issue resolves. If it does, you can slowly start adding certain foods back into the diet. If you stay on the restricted diet for 8 weeks and there is no change, start to think environmental. I’ve also heard that if the dog is itching mostly around it’s head and paws, think food, if it’s itching everywhere, think environmental.
