@@slimy6316 to be fair, his critiques of Islam and the conservative Muslims who shout on the internet are very good - but he is using the Israel/Palestine conflict to promote western chauvinist Christian conservatism at the expense of his normal measured and unbiased approach.

I know Destiny doesn’t really do documentary style videos but it’d be super cool to see something like that from him where he breaks down this whole conflict from beginning to current in a high quality script form. It would probably do really well and bring a lot of people to his channel especially while the topic is still being widely talked about.

The Ottoman Empire was in comparison to other Muslim empires/countries quite benign and modern in its thinking. That being said, the thing that blows me away about all these discussions is how no one brings up how the Ottoman Empire used forced migrations to solidify and reinforce central control. The regions in the middle east that are conflict hotspots more or less all involved forced migrations under the Ottomans in the 16th to 18th centuries. I find it remarkable how people look at these conflicts and focus on Britain taking control of the region and not recognizing that it inherited a problem that had already been created over 2 centuries.
They also had slaves into the 1910. The glorification of thet empire have led to a Resurgence of slavery in the modern a arab world ( yes. Actual " put balck people on sale" slavery ) . People's refusal to engage with how bad the ottoman empire was is doing real life damage right now
Jewish mass immigration, the source of the Palestine Genocide, is the product of a rich, politically influencal and inheritly genocidal western organization, the zionists. They and their white enablers are 100% responsible for what happening. You thinking that fighting back against genocide is bad is just pure evil.
Not to mention that the most well off slaves were brainwashed children, firstborn males taken while still babies as a tax from non-muslims, converted to islam and turned into elite troops, the janissary corps. Some parents even mutilated their firstborn sons to avoid paying the tax. At least that vile practice ended up kneecapping the Ottomans because the janissaries kept running interference against the modernization of the army due to it threatening their privileged status.
@@JakeBrancatellaClips Slavery in general is shitty as fuck, but provided you survive the crossing you're far more likely to have an extremely better quality of life in the Americas compared to Arabia. The only exceptions to this that I can find would be plantations in Haiti, which is fair but I'm pretty sure those plantations pretty much collapsed after the Atlantic slave trade started shriveling up with the Royal Navy's African crusade properly popping off, though I may be getting my timeline wrong.
I'm so glad that these convos got made into a vod. these are so interesting. as a person with a history degree, I love all this studying, learning, and tracking down sources.
Palestinian and Muslim were two different things at first. It’s only recently that they became essentially synonymous. There were Palestinian Christians and Jews, initially.

AP is solid guy, I'm glad people are learning about the Expanisiont and waring years of Islam at the start, it really does explain how and why Islam has alot of these sort of policies like the concept of Jihad, Treatment of others, Infidels, why men can marry non-muslims and Mulitple women, Conversions etc etc if you take it in as a whole its Islams focus was shaped around Expanisionism, you could argue survival also against Christianity etc. Muslims are taught as if its core parts of the religion but the reality is the writings are a response to the times Islam first developed in which was quite hostile, which bred religious tenets to try and protect and expand.
There's also the really fascinating possibility that all or most of it was essentially made up in an attempt to seize power from Jews and Christians, explaining why so much of the ancillary material is just copy+pasted from popular writings of the time, why the super-advanced city of Mecca has _no_ archeological evidence, and why the direction of the niches in mosques seem to tell a story of groups betting on the outcome of warring factions.
AP has no qualifications what so ever to talk about islam and teach it other than being an ex mulsim with a bad relationship to Islam lmfao tf? and now his whole carrer and income is based on shitting on the religion. how is that unbiased and solid lmfao

Great interview. There was a huge Armenian massacre in 1894-6, under Sultan Abdul Hamid, in response to the Armenian push for more rights. Then a second larger massacre occurred in 1915, because the Committee of Union and Progress thought the Armenians were fighting for the Russians. There were Greek and Assyrian massacres at that time too. I guess the Turkish government feared Turkey would be divided up by the victorious allies, and that was a possibility. Russia would have taken Constantinople for sure, because they'd made a secret agreement with Britain and France to acquire it. What kept that from happening was Turkish resistance and the end of the Czarist government.
Tom Holland's book on Islam ( I'm sure someone has mentioned it by now) would be a good place to start with the mosque question at the beginning of the vid.
NO ,Tom Holland is not respected by scholars in this field. Eg his belief that certain Islamic practices came from/were influenced by Zoroastrianisn is just absurdly dumb.
All of this is spot on. As someone who deals in actual facts and law, pro-Palestinian arguments almost always add up to nothing more than whining and racism grounded in Islam. Even some of those “illegal” Israeli settlements encroaching on Palestinian territory end up amounting to nothing more than adverse possession once you understand what the actual area is like. Incredibly true regarding the importance of language and the various rhetorical fallacies many pro-Palestinians pull as well. Taqiyaa is permissible during times of war especially, but tends to be executed mostly via small misrepresentations and obfuscation. Fun fact. The IRA used to wear the keffiyah to exhibit Palestinian solidarity. Today you’ll see a lot of pro-Palestinian Irish boomers spewing the same “yeah, but Israel” crap regarding Oct 7.
its a weird argument when you find out that both jews and palestinians descend genetically from the canaanites. It's basically like arguing about which sibling deserves their parent's home more.
Lawrence of Arabia is one of the greatest films ever. This is indisputable. The overall historic narrative is pretty accurate, though the film does blend some historical figures together. The key thing is that it portrays the political situation between the British and the Arabs, and all the tribal stuff pretty true to life.
"Every single Palestinian governmental group started off as terrorists." Not to say that isn't true (IDK), it is also case that the IDF was formed from terrorist groups as well. The "Irgun" and "Stern" gangs are what I'm referring to.
Of course. Israel was formed by terrorist organizations by European settlers. But why would they mention that. They are zionists and destiny is just showing how behind he is on this topic and just saying yes to these people. Dude needs to go form his own opinion rather than choose an opinion and listen to people with that same opinion to educate him.
Yeah AP has a great point: people always bring up that the jews only owned a small percentage of the land - what they leave out is the British / state owned / public land they were going to give the Jews in addition to whatever the jews could buy
additionally imagine how much people would complain if the jews had Arabs continue to work on their land after they bought it... no matter which way it could go people would complain
The archeologist anthropologist was very knowledgeable, fascinating stuff. However, as a Biblical MA who has worked with and studied under various PhD religious scholars, I would push back on his understanding of "most Christian traditions not being unique/being inherited from pagan religions" and his understanding of Qos and Yahweh (regarding the rainbow). This is a very common modern misconception where the nuance and historical/biblical narrative is often overlooked or misunderstood. He kind of swerved out of his lane with Destiny on that one. Great dialogue overall though! I also really enjoy hearing from the Apostate Prophet, that dude is excellent.
It is true that much of Christian theology is derived from pagan practices of the time. Examples would be the idea of a soul separate from the body, the idea that miracles can only be caused by divinity, the idea that gods can impregnate human women, and the idea of the messiah as a divine being. None of those concepts originate in Judaism.
Just to clarify a few things: Muslim scriptures don't say Mohammed flew to heaven on the winged horse, it says the horse flew him to the farthest mosque. After he arrived he rose up to heaven from that location., according to the writings. This wasn't dying and going to heaven. He was just going for a temporary visit to heaven where he talked with the old prophets and with God. After God had given him commands about praying, he returned to Earth. There is a place on the rock there where Muslims think he launched on his trip to Heaven. There is an indentation in the rock they say is his foot print. So much recent violence has resulted from Muslims thinking they are defending Mohammed's launching pad. But it's true that the writings do not give the location of the place. Jerusalem is not mentioned. A Muslim tradition has arisen saying that Jerusalem is the place where this happened. Mohammed did not conquer Jerusalem himself. One of his successors did. Umar was a companion of Mohammed who later became leader of the Muslims. He sent his army into the Byzantine province of Syria and conquered Jerusalem. Today Hamas says that any land that Muslims conquered in the past rightfully belongs to Muslims forever. This is their particular religious religious doctrine that is also believed by many Muslims around the world.

I read that before the Romans, the Greeks called the region Palaistine, which was a clever bit of word play. 'Israel' in Hebrew means 'wrestler' or 'contender', and 'Palaistes' is a Greek word with the same meaning, so it was combined with 'Philistine' a people in the area to make 'Palaistine', which is where the Roman word comes from
Fake news. The name Israel is derived from the Hebrew words, "yisra," which means to struggle, and "el," which is short-hand for "God," or "Elohim." Thus it can be interpreted as someone who struggles with God. This story comes from the time Jacob wrestled with an angel for a blessing from God. He wrestled continuously for hours to show/symbolize how much he wanted the blessing.
Not quite fake news a little wrong though. The region was called by the Romans Syria-Palaestaena which was an insult to the Jews after the Jewish revolt, it was a reference to the Philistine Greeks that had settled in the area and fought the Jews, the Romans essentially said it was Philistine land not Hebrew. Now the Greek word for Israel may mean wrestler or contender and the Romans used that as their root for Palaestaena I'm not sure on that
@@hismajestylordsmenkhare5878 We have records from the 5th century BC where in the name Palaistinê was used by Herodotus, and Aristotle later used the same word to refer to the region. AP is just wrong on "Gospels are written by people who knew Jesus". IDK why he simps so hard for Christianity and is lazer vision critical of Islam only.
He didn’t say it is, he’s saying it’s possible, particularly with the earlier gospels such as Mark written about 40 years after Jesus’s death around 70CE, meaning at the time there would’ve still been people alive during the life of Jesus. For example apostle Peter died around 64-68 CE. Also the gospels started as oral traditions that were then written down at a later point. There is also the theory of the Q source which would’ve been a sayings gospel similar to the gospel of Thomas, that both Mathew and Luke referenced which if is real, has been lost.

American slaves were actually treated more humanely and lived in better conditions than a lot of other slaves. We know this because their birth rates were much higher than the birth rates of slaves in the Caribbean and South America. Slaves in the Caribbean were treated horrifically and were essentially worked to death. Yes, it was harder for American slaves to get out of slavery and the system was much more racist, but Christian revival movements lead to better treatment of slaves and gradually, abolition.
Enlightenment thinking led to the abolition of slavery, not Christianity. Also, don't forget that slavery persisted in the US well after the Atlantic slave trade was abolished, which meant that slave owners had to allow/encourage their slaves to reproduce otherwise they'd run out of free labour. Muslim countries could afford to castrate their male slaves because they had an endless supply of new ones just to the south.

about 32:00, the Talmud is very open for debating, the whole thing is basically around debating the laws and not blindly following them. when you read some phrases from the Talmud they are not laws that tells you what to do, but stories/sentences laws from the Tora that are "being" discussed in the Talmud. the whole Idea of the Talmud is that there are some phrases\Laws in the Tora that either contradicts or are highly immoral, or just doesn't make any sense, the Talmud is trying to solve it by quating parts of the Tora+some old Rabbi quots + some stories/myth. so its basically not the "Jewish law" itself but some type of a method of "studying" or "debating" around the Law in order to understand it and in order to get the "Jewish law" (Halacha). the word "Talmud" in Hebrew literally means "study, consideration and interpretation. That is why even if you see some horrible phrases and "Laws" in the Talmud, it doesn't mean you should do what is written or that its the Law you should follow, but its phrases/laws/sentences/stories/myth that you need to use in order to debate around the topic in order to understand what is the "Official Law". its kind of hard to explain in English because the language is so different, but I hope I made some sense out of it.
whenever the balfour declaration is mentioned, you also need to mention lawerence of arabia. these were both british double dealing for their own reasons. the point of the balfour declaration was to weaken jewish support for Germany in WWI. Jews spoke a germanic language, German, were very opposed to the tsarist russian regime that fought for the allies, and thousands of Jews served in the German Army - including my great grandfather who fought at verdun. Both the balfour declaration and Lawerence of Arabia were false promises to jews and arabs for british self serving purposes.
Even worse Steven, in the US you weren’t just born a slave. But once you were raised to teenage/young adult age you probably got sold off so you weren’t with your family anymore and were less like to “cause trouble” or to keep your parents in line.
From what I've read, that wasn't a rule. Sometimes probably happened. I think often families were kept together because Whites who had purchased slaves from traders who bought them from African chiefs were *not* always a55holes like in movies.
@@gg_rider Ya, if the slave owners had children with the slaves, those kid slaves probably got to stay with their mom because the owners "weren't all a-holes" 😏 Yes, we all know that some slave owners only had 1-2 slaves, they were basically like butlers/nannies, and they probably had better lives compared to slaves that worked on plantations, where there were hundreds of slaves working brutal hours in brutal conditions. as a historian it is pretty bizarre listening to destiny learning about history and for example the concept and construct of nations in the 19th century...like what did you think? that the concept of nations and nationality was always around? Now apply that to the concepts of ownership, personhood, rights, liberty etc.

Palestinian nationalism is pretty similar to any other nationalist movements in 19th century just 60-80 years later. I think it would really help him to study post Napoleonic history as it's so important to properly understand the ww1 and 20th century.
To be fair to him, it's extremely difficult to imagine a world without those things and you're hardly ever going to need to think about how all that works.

@@nothanks8354 This hiding of belief is primarily or entirely only sanctioned in cases of protecting oneself from oppression. You can do the A-historical stuff for both sides all day. It’s kinda irrelevant. That doesn’t mean the people that visit it don’t have sincere beliefs about it. That’s why the religious beliefs arguments on either side are pretty useless.
Exactly. They are ‘ancient traditions’, not historical facts. And every culture has traditions and ‘sacred’ spaces. The idea it is ‘because religion’ is edgelord atheist stuff.
The whole point and significance of the story, is that the story stuck around, and we should study the points of the story that areaccurring no matter the age it is told in.. When it comes to slavery there was a difference between white (Mamluk) and black (abd) slaves , Mamluk just means owned and abd means slave. And it also depends what you ended up doing, if you were sent to work in a rock quarry or salt mine and such, life was very harsh.
And the Mamluk were given privilege even over free Muslim Arabs while the Abd were treated as animals. Gives a lot of insight into just how racist issslam was/ is.
The Quran doesn't mention Muhammad in that journey. It's later tafsir and sira written centuries later that adds detail. That's why people assume it's referring to Muhammad. Look at Quran translations how many times they add in Muhammad/ prophet, etc, in brackets, put those same verses in Corpus Quran, and you'll see the literal text. Al Aqsa is in Ji'ranah Saudi Arabia. There are traditions related to this, and Arabs know this.
Hamas is actually pretty cunning I have to admit. I've seen claims of people discrediting the hospital footage based on two factors. And it feels like those factors in the footage are on purpose. One camera reads: 10-07-2023 Sat (10h55m) the other writes 07-10-2023 Sat (10h53m) This allows the claim that the footage is tampered because of 3 month time difference. BUT this is actually just two different camera settings. The 10th July was a friday so both cameras show the same date. But Hamas supporter and appologists claim one camera shows July while the other October proving their bad faith nature. Not only that they even claim that the clock showing a different time "proving" the video is tampered. But the clock isn't moving at all but the clock hand that shows seconds should be moving in the picture. It is insane that they make those claim and spread disinformation most likely on purpose because everyone who looks at the video and not just the single frame will realize those two factors.

Muhammad went between the Meccan and Medinan mosques, taking days to travel. The night journey was a dream. The so-called mosques on the Temple Mount were Byzantine Catholic Churches. At the time of muhammad, he used al Aqsa for something else, and what became called the al Aqsa in Jerusalem decades later was called the Church of St. Mary at the time. This was a smaller interim Church during the repairs on the larger older Church of St. Mary, damaged by the Persian Empire. The dome wasn't on it till after Umar arrived years after muhammad's death. Something different about Judeo-Christian tradition than islamic tradition is that just pals or family saying things informally were remembered. Judaism's Scriptures could only be in the Temple with a Priest knowing when and how it got there and many books were copied both for the Temple and for the king. In Christianity, there was the combination of a close circle of family, the Twelve, the Seventy Two, and the whole Church structure. No anonymous books were possible early on. A Catholic can understand what I mean, but even Bart has no experience of this where the first Church to receive a Gospel knew from whom they received it, and so on.
