Appalachian Ginseng 

My Nan has 350 acres in northern Kentucky and I have family all over west Virginia. Birch river west Virginia is the ginseng capital and I have family all throughout there. I've been talking for years about a way to leave my children some type of legacy and I think this is it. Buy up seed with my extra money every year. Plant for the next 30 or 40 years and by the time I'm gone they'll have millions in ginseng to cash in and continue to cultivate and prosper off of for the rest of their lives. The more Investigating i do the more I'm interested in doing something with ginseng. Thanks for the video and all the information.

I have dug 5 prongs 6 prongs 8 and9.and double 4 prongs double 3 and several roots with 4 four prongs on the same rootbiggest I've ever dug 13 ounces best day 3 pounds 12 ounces. Saw my baby brother dig 5 pounds a day 5 days straight .my best year of digging rite at 50 pounds .my brother was 68 pounds the same year and that was with us working regular jobs.

I remember as a child in Kentucky my father and grandfather going out and hunting "seng" It was a very important supplement to us making it. As a child I had no clue what a big deal it was. I remember it always being somewhere in our home.

Whenever you pull ginseng u should allways replant the seed so the plant will grow for years to come ..from john from maine penobscot county

You can develop these ginseng farms into tourist sites, to attract Asian people there to buy fresh ginsengs, which absolutely can bring you lots of money.

Worked as an Arborist / Tree Climber in Appalachia, and Ginseng is still rampant out there in the mountains. Remember a few saturdays where were ahead on work and people just started foraging it. Apparently owner of the property jokingly asked if they had been picking his ginseng as we were leaving. Not a proud moment, but they actually had been.

I remember seeing it all of the time when I was a kid but that was 30 years ago I'm sure it's either gone or so overgrown you can't get to it because kids don't play out in the woods like we did, that place was like fern gully. I was out in the woods more hours than I was in the house smh lol. I still go wandering out in the woods but not as deep as when I was a kid. Wow the memories.

If you grow peppermint as a companion crop it will ward off most mice.

Great video i really enjoy this video I think that the problem with extinction can be solve by the farmers working together with the parks and recreation then create a program to replant in public areas parks national forest ones a year protected areas where poaching will be punished by law and rangers can keep on eye on it this will create some jobs and maintain the plant from extinction it will be part or a extension of the business for the grower and farmers and a way to maintain balance on nature

I always look for Cohosh , Dolls Eye , and few other plants . Once I find that , I find sang.

Appalachian outlaws Yes this is truly serious buissness although in certain States its still illegal to sale or export on the other hand there are States that have figured the best thing to do is replanting, as soon as its taken from the ground the seeds go in that same hole so it does seem better for the people n environment.

They will make it illegal to grow & sell If they know you in joy it , or make a profit.
