Derek, your health is what matters. I'm so sorry you got Lyme. The medication may enable you to continue in a week or so and it may not. That's ok. What a beautiful adventure you've had! You've walked 1600 miles more than me on the AT😅🥰. Be proud of your accomplishment. If this is the end, take what you've gained from it and feel grateful. Praying for you to feel better. Mind yourself!

Derek, your videos are visual poetry. For a man such as me who will never be able to hike again I thank you for the videos from the bottom of my heart.
Lymes is nothing to play with. Take care of you. You, your sayings, your history lessons, philosophy lessons, humor, and thoughts have made me laugh, made me want to see, have filled my heart and brought me to tears. You have been a true blessing. May those blessings that you give come back to you multiplied.
Take care of yourself. If you need to end this hike, you do it. We have enjoyed your adventures and commentary, but we want you to be well. There will be other adventures I am sure. We will be there for you. Take care and blessings always.

I am so sorry you are ill and pray for a quick recovery. It has been so nice to see the trail through your eyes. 1,500 miles is amazing!!! Maybe once you feel better, your perspective will be different. I’d love to see you complete your thru hike! Good luck and happy trails Derek!!!

Derek I hope you're feeling better. I also had Lyme and I want to let you know that once I was diagnosed (probably within 2 weeks of the tick bite) I was put on doxycycline also. About two days later I started feeling a lot better and I was back to 100% within 5 days. That was about 4 years ago and I've had no long-term effects at all. I'll say a prayer that your recovery will be as quick and complete as mine was. I'm in Maine on vacation right now and I'm hoping you get to see it! Happy trails!

Seeing the Hemlock trees in your video is so nice. Here just south of the Mason Dixon line, many of the old trees are gone unfortunately due to infestation of an introduced species of insect. Indeed there was a fellow in North Carolina who, a few years back now, was recording the sizes of the skeletal remains of some of the big guys still lurking about in the forests. Some were found to be just shy of 200 feet tall. If in your travels you want a spot of tangy tea, break off some sprigs of newer growth, drop them into some hot water and bring to a rolling boil for a couple minutes. it's an understated treat and refreshing. Sorry to hear of your Lymes. I've managed for over 20 years now. Keep moving your body. Constantly. Stretch your muscles daily and never stop. Cheers Derek and thanks so much.
Hello you! 😉. Well Derek, your still on the trail, still updating us all with your experience good or bad. So well done you! I wonder though whether you drive yourself too hard. Listen to your body and be kinder to yourself, you don't have to do penance. That's why some quit. What I do like though is the generosity of people, that restored faith in humanity. I wish for you to keep on going to your destination but at a more leisurely pace 😉. Thank you for including us all in your journey. 💚

Derek, thank you for all your videos, your songs, your philosophy, your candidness and your humor. At the beginning of this episode you walked through my aunt and uncle's town, Falls Village. They've now passed on, but it was lovely to see that scenery once again. I hope you return to health soon and can complete your journey however you wish to.
Sorry to hear that Derek. Lyme disease can be managed but it can be difficult too as it can take your energy. Hopefully you get all the advice and support you need.

I found you when I was prepping to walk the Camino Frances a couple of years ago and have watched your series several times...before and after my walk. Lyme, may take a couple of weeks under medication. Thru hiker “Fortune Adventures” had to get of for a couple of weeks, but he is back. Take care of yourself.

As a born and raised New Englander, (born /grew up in Mass and lived almost 30 years in New Hampshire), I loved seeing you walk down these New England streets!!! (Even if it is Connecticut, the NE state that wishes it were New York 😂) I've left my well-wishes on a couple of your Facebook posts already, but I'll say it again - I hope you recover quickly from your Lyme & Shingles. Hi Derek. It's been extremely humid in the North East and I know how uncomfortable that can be. I'm sure you really appreciate getting a nice shower when you can. I love that feeling when standing in the shower and just feeling thankful while washing away all that sweat and grime. More amazing people along the journey...what a blessing. It's all about perspective and I know you understand. This isn't bad news, it's just news. Something seemingly bad opens a door for something good. We’re so sorry to hear you have Lyme. It is no laughing matter. You have inspired so many including us. We have loved watching all of your videos and adventures. You stand out amongst RU-vidrs for your character and soulful storytelling and songs. Take good care, and if you do make it back to the trail, we’ll try to catch you at the end as we live off-grid in the Northern Maine woods not far from Katahdin.
