This is for some family members who wanted to watch every episode in order on their TV but couldn't. Aaaand I just realized at 1:08:30 I forgot to take off a trial plugin effect on some clips. sorry.
There is no way to explain how this 2 1/2 hours of video affected my emotions. I am 73 years old, I have lived my whole life in flat land Houston, Texas… resenting many years of it. You see like you and your wife my soul is happiest in the mountains, hiking trails, and seeing nature. The journey you took on this adventure in your life is something I would give anything to have gotten to do. I think it would have altered the time I spend in flatland lol. Thank you for taking the time to document this wonderful adventure that you and your wife were blessed enough to take. It was an awesome job of videography and production quality. Maybe one day when your children are old enough, you can take them on long hikes with you and relive with them The amazing memories the two of you hold in your heart.
It's excellent. It seems to highlight both the ups and the downs rather than the usual Sunshine and rainbows RU-vid vid about thru hiking or van life. You both seem like lovely people, thanks for putting this together.
This is an incredible piece of work! I’ve never felt so much care and emotion about a video on RU-vid! This deserves soo much more recognition and attention! Very well done on telling such a wonderful story, filled with highs and lows!
I watched about every pct documentary to date and this one’s gotta to be by far my favorite one. Its outstanding and so down to earth. Starting my hike in may I’m very excited and now even more pumped. Thank you for the video! I wish the best for you guys. Edit: I committed that before finishing the video and I’m now just gunna say the same thing but mean it more fully. This is hands down my favorite pct video ever. The last few segments are absolutely breathtaking and had me tearing up. The real reason or at least the main one on why I want to hike the pct is to really tap in to that living in the present moment. And really understanding that everything in life is impermanent. That there is a lot more to life than you know by the fact that you think you know it and are forcing you perspective of the world on to it. But in reality the present moment is the truth. Anyways I really love what you did here! Your insight on life is really beautiful. Hike your own hike, live your own life!
thanks for the kind words! good luck on your hike! It will definitely teach you things you didn't expect. Just go with an open mind. Don't expect it to be something. Just let it be what it is and center your joy in that. good luck!
How incredibly beautiful, this documentary made my heart sing. So graciously narrated. Hope you are both doing well, congratulations on your child. Thank you so very much for sharing your adventure. ❤
I don’t know the words to write that would succinctly convey my feelings after watching this. Calm, grateful, contemplative, patient. God bless you both. Your child is blessed to have you two.
My boyfriend and I have just decided that once we are done with school that we are going to go with two of our friends on this journey. We say down and watched this entire video. Your outlook on life has forever changed how I view life now. You spoke with such raw honesty that brought tears to my eyes more than once. At the end of the film there were cars on a highway and that baffles me because what you had hiked in days, they would finish in near hours. All I have to say is thank you so much for this and you have sparked a passion that is growing inside of my boyfriend and I. Thank you. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This was absolutely beautiful. Brilliant storytelling, and you both are wonderful. Favorite PCT video I’ve seen. Thank you for sharing your journey with the world. 💛
Not only is this the best thru-hike video in existence, but this has to be the best personal documentary I’ve ever had the privilege of watching. You took us on an amazing journey. This is my new favorite accidental click, too.
ha! no freaking way! I love your music! licensed it from musicbed. I think I've used a handful of your songs over the years for different things. Glad you enjoyed watching this!
Very well done! I really enjoyed your perspective and outlook throughout your journey. You and your wife have re-ignited my wife and I's desire to hike the PCT...which has taken a back seat to the crazy world that has been around us since 2019; hiking in general has taken a back seat. Thank you!
Im only half way through, but I think I understand why this took so long to be uploaded. 6 months of high quality footage edited down (very well) to 3 hours is insane! This deserves so much more attention! Also really enjoying the voice over portions, all that time to think really does make you realize the truly important things in life 👌🏻 Im only 25 but this video makes me want to start preparing and training for a thru hike of my own. Thanks for sharing this with the world 🌎
My wife and I went down the rabbit hole of watching all the PCT videos and like most commenters here, I agree that this is by far the best! Every hiker’s journey and perspective are unique but this captured the raw beauty of the highs and lows of living on trail. Loved every bit of it. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
I absolutely loved this ❤️ you did an amazing job with this. I think its my favorite one I have watched so far! You made me more excited for my through hike.
This is so amazing. I've been watching sections of it each night, and now almost feel a little lost that it's over.. It felt real and gave such a beautiful insight into the PCT and all the different aspects of thru-hiking such a long trail. Congrats on the hike (and becoming parents), and thank you again for creating and sharing this video. Hope my turn is coming to experience all of this for myself here soon!
Wow, what a great job you have done with this video! Fantastic editing, great stories, beautiful landscapes. Just awesomeness through and through! Thank you for sharing this with us.
Wow. What an incredible journey. I’ve never been so emotional at the end of a vlog before. An absolute blast from start to finish. Congratulations to you both for completing such an epic adventure and I thank you humbly for sharing it with us all.
Absolutely stunning movie man. I’ve watched a hundreds of hours of these pct vids and this is by far the best. (I say that with a bunch of them) but this blows the rest of them away. The edit was professional and it could be a movie people watch at the theaters. Thank you for the hike and all the time you spent editing this for us. Will be watching for more.
What an absolutely beautiful documentation of your journey. Truly inspiring. Thank you! The montage of friends and smiles near the end had me sobbing 😭
What an incredible documentary…professionally done. Truly inspirational!! Loved your patience and acceptance of the trail and your journey on it. Enjoyed every second. Sincerest “thank you!” for sharing.
This was wonderfully shot, edited and presented. I'm sure you've motivated and aspired future travelers ahead. Best wishes to y'all and thanks so much for sharing! 🙂
Great video:) Thanks for letting us taking part in your experience. Im thinking of starting this adventure by myself, so its a marvelous thing that you share with us. Greetings from Poland
I really enjoyed watching this whole thing. You narration especially. I've watched two others that were more "produced" but found yours to be really special and authentic. Thanks for making it and sharing. -Hersch
You so thoroughly captured the heart of the trail. This is one of the best PCT documentaries on RU-vid. Your documentary is a beautiful testimony to how a couple can persevere and tackle life together. You two are an example of how to a live a well lived life.
Such a powerful, moving and intimate story. Beautifully shot and created with such care and love . I am truly honoured to have been able to watch this. I’ve just come back from a bikepacking trip for only two weeks, yet can empathise with all you said so much. I have kids like you do now and I encourage you to keep on taking the time for yourself to go on journeys, I’m certainly a better dad for it.
I don't know how this video ended up being suggested to me but I'm glad it did. Incredible job piecing this story together! What an amazing journey. A friend of mine is planning a similar hike so I suggested that he watch your hike. Thanks for sharing your story!
Just hiked through Mt Baker wilderness and came across this film, while looking for other clips. Totally blown away. Loved seeing how you both changed throughout the hike, and appreciated your editing and commentary. I got excited when I saw Stehekin, the road, the bus, the bakery! Definitely one of the best hiking vids I’ve seen. Loved it and almost cried at the end. Hope you’ve been able to make it back to WA state!
After reading 'Wild' a few years ago I've always been intrigued by the PCT trail so this was such a treat to watch. Thank you for sharing your epic adventure and sage insights Andrew. Big hugs from the UK.
Great video I really enjoyed it. I’ve hiked about half the Pct and I’m going back in late March to try to do the whole thing in a single year. It was cool seeing the struggles you guys encountered because that’s real life and that’s part of the adventure thanks again.
Thank you so much for sharing this incredible journey and all the wonderful things and humans and all else along the way... The last scene with your dad picking up the pack is very touching ❤ all the best to both of you
Part of what inspired me to hike Pacific Crest Trail, was a video that I came across. I think your story is going to be one that many people feel inspired from, and go out to walk into their dream. Beautiful work, and thank you for sharing. Well done.
I finished watching your documentary among many that I have watched in the past, and I will not be able to watch another and enjoy it as much as I have this one. The beauty that was captured is the best I have seen. The emotions that are so hard to articulate were beautifully translated in your narration and video. Congrats!
You guys did a brilliant job on your documentary!! It was so much like being back on trail. The photographer captured the beauty, the narration captured the journey, and the way you put the story together with candor and courage was remarkable. Well done!!
Dude, that was an amazing film! Great editing, and filled with real warmth and beauty. I stumbled upon this accidently, and boy, what a find. It has inspired me to want to hike this trail. Lots of time I found myself laughing out loud (and my family wanted to know what I was laughing at), or quietly crying to myself. Especially that last chapter. Great reflections. I watched it over a few days, and kept wanting to get back to it to join you on your journey. Excellent film-making. You definitely need to persue this as a career. Congratulations on a wonderful achievement (the hike, and the film!)
I know it’s been a minute sense you walked on Canadian soil - just watched your whole video in the comfort of my warm house drinking coffee and it shows me I have so much to still see and do. Thanks for journaling your adventures. Wow, what an experience it must have Been. I find myself being drawn to the Seattle / Oregon area as I type this.. smile and share it!
amazing, really amazing, so far I've only watched movies that talk about PCT, but after I watched your video, it turned out to be much more extraordinary than. salute and respect from me in Indonesia
By far one the best PCT documentary. The honest commentary was heartfelt and inspiring to my soul. The graphics were an added plus to the story. Thank you for compiling months and miles of majestic scenery and the human spirit.
I agree, this WAS Beautiful! Very well done, on so many levels. Made me smile and at times tears.(?) Even had me checking my pack and gear. I think it's In our blood! Thank you Thank you! Sending love and good will!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and journey on the PCT. What a beautiful documentary. Something your child will absolutely value when they get older as you and your wife age.
Thank you for taking the journey and sharing it. The part that stays with me after watching are the parts where you discussed being open to new things without judgement and that kindness and spirituality doesn't have to look the same and can come from many places and people.
Really enjoyed this documentary. So different than most PCT videos but exceptionally well done. I hiked in 2015 and was ahead of you two but often saw your resupply boxes. More Cowbell
AMAZINGLY beautiful documentary. So glad it populated on my feed. By far the best documentary of a thru hike. Your commentary - intentional - with purpose - peaceful. You both are an amazing couple. Love your mojo and outlook on life. BRAVO! Buen Camino!
The part where you fixed the rocks from “PCP” to “PCT,” went on to explain a little about the drug culture on trail, then mentioned missing your church and your community…tears. Thank you for talking about this. Our church is also our family. I was walking this past week and wondering myself, even before I saw that part in your docu mentioned above, about through hiking and being away from our church that long. I realized with a decent amount of differing perspectives on faith and values on trial would be the hardest part for me, mentally, possibly. It has seemed to me with the through hiking documentaries that there is, like you have mentioned, a big party scene on trail. Thank you for being real and not legalistic on what you shared. It helps me remember that there are all kinds of people everywhere, and that no matter where I would ever go, I would always find other like minded believers and people who also share my same values. Life is beautiful. Hike on! -Hannah Yoder
This is for some family members… I’m so grateful that they wanted to see the full documentary, so I got the gift to see this wonderful film! Thank you so much for sharing and all the best for you three. Tina from Germany
Categorically the GOAT when it comes to reflective monumental hiking experiences. Great capture of how life should be lived. Extraordinary cinematography and narration. You guys did remarkable work.
