We’re the Crawford family and we're walking 2,200 miles from Georgia to Maine on the Appalachian trail with our kids who are 2, 7, 11, 13, 15, and 16 years old. We think it will take us 6 months but we've never done anything like this.

Hang in there guys! I remember that bathroom also, I think. Just shy of Galtinburg? It was a snowy cold day in 2005 when I hiked through during my thru-hike and we all hid in there trying to dry off and warm up as we waited for some unlucky soul to drive up so we could beg for a ride down. These memories will be treasured memories someday!! -Pumpkin

that is incredibly good mileage for eight of you in in snowy, windy conditions with deep snow already on the trail. Hope the leaky pipe didn't get everything all wet. Stay safe out there.

WOW! I am blown away (but not surprised) by all you have accomplished. Your teamwork and support of each other is really getting you through some monumental challenges. I think at this point Kami needs to change her intro line- it’s clear that if you decide to finish the AT you will. You’ve already proven yourselves capable!

Amazing effort and fortitude to get through that. Wow. You were hit with the worst of it at the highest elevation. Positive attitude maintained all the way. Impressive. That view of little Felia and that giant pack says it all. The little ones are such troopers!!! Hooray for heated bathrooms! Things have to get better from here....

You guys are all f*cking badass. Excellent work kiddos! I remember some miserable hiking days with my family as a kid (I’m the oldest of 8, also homeschooled, also with a cool hiker mom) and this video made me so nostalgic for those times hiking through mud and snow with a 3 year old on my back, and baby on my moms, and 4 kids following behind. I freaking love watching you guys!!

I was worried about your feet. Hopefully you had a baggie to put over your socks or something as I imagine the snow was melting in your shoes. Since you didn’t mention it, I guess everyone's toes were alright? That is one of my biggest fears -having frozen feet.

WOW! I'm praying for you all. Hope Hominy and Papa make it for you all to get your food supplies and night at the hotel. Might want to look into hikers boots for you all. They help prevent ankle sprains and ankle snake bites. Oh and GO CRAWFORD FAMILY! Your in my prayers daily 😉

I was always told that when hiking do whatever you can to keep your sleeping bag dry, otherwise you will struggle to get warm at night. Are you guys finding it harder to get warm at night if the bags damp?

You guys are beasts. Babyman looks snug and cozy. Aaaand I *just* made an important decision. Gonna go ahead and stop bitching about the snow in the forecast for our trip this weekend. Adjusting the ol perspective. “Thank you.” Sweet baby. Did you just say Hoth? Sleeping in a bathroom > sleeping in the belly of a tauntaun. That is an insanely good attitude lol. Were Bens parents out of their minds worried when they couldn’t get through? I always imagine other people worry the way I do lol. I have to go bring my blood pressure down. 😜

You guys aren't the first AT thru hikers to sleep in that bathroom and probably won't be the last. That's the problem with the Newfound Gap road -- it closes when there is too much snow. You're real troopers to hike Clingman Dome in that kind of weather. That's a story you'll be telling for years to come. Hopefully, you won't have to wait too long for them to plow and open the road in the morning but I think it takes a while for that to happen. The kids will be excited to spend a little time in Gatlinburg. Lots to do and lots of good food there. I guess we'll have to wait to see how things turned out. Hopefully it won't be too long. It's like a cliff hanger...... Good luck.

Because Rainer’s is not of age of consent to be subjected to such harsh conditions. I understand they do their best to try to keep him warm but a baby’s face is so tender and I worry about frostbite. Don’t get me wrong I love the trail and as a family conquering it is an amazing story but couldn’t they wait until he was much older. I truly feel this is “The Ben Show”
