Appalachian Trail Section - Max Patch-Hot Springs-Rich Mountain | 4-day Backpacking Report 

This is the full length trip report with natural sounds and on-trail commentary from a 4-day backpacking adventure that Max, Joey and I took along the Appalachian Trail in North Carolina's Pisgah National Forest. We covered ~34 miles on this section hike in March 2020. Notable sights included Max Patch, Bluff Mountain, Hot Springs, French Broad River, Lover's Leap and Rich Mountain Fire Tower.
We began at Max Patch and followed the Appalachian Trail until we made camp before Lemon Gap. On Day 2 we fought through wind and snow along the AT to Deer Park Mountain Shelter. Day 3 saw us go through the town of Hot Springs, across the French Broad River and up to the Rich Mountain Fire Tower. On Day 4 we departed the Appalachian Trail and took Roundtop Ridge Trail back down into Hot Springs to finish off our trip.
