Apparent military coup fails in Bolivia

Armored vehicles and soldiers have withdrawn from outside Bolivia's presidential plaza following what appears to be a failed coup attempt Wednesday. Eduardo Gamarra, professor of politics and international relations at Florida International University, joins CBS News to discuss.

President Arce was recently at the St. Petersburg economic conference and clearly aligned the country as a candidate to join Brics. Deposits of lithium and contracts with Russian and Chinese companies is reason enough for the US to try old tricks in Latin America. I it’s came back from Bolivia. There were rumors and discontent for the lack of dollars and tomatoes but didn’t hear any serious discontent. Surely some adventurous general paid by a desperate hegemon trying to control the region.

I'm not Bolivian, nor am I in Bolivia but have been following this from the previous coup of President Añez (who is pure evil. The Catholics in the country are very right wing and hate the indigenous poor population, the rich control the countries businesses (i.e. food and resources). The indigenous have the overwhelming vote and are improving the lives of the population. These European descendants hate living with this situation and they try to coup every so often now. Arce needs to lock them up. The commentor on this news cast says there are "political prisoners", that's pure b.s. they are traitors that couped the government and privatized resources that belong to the people .

I Iive in La Paz Bolivia. This was act orchestrated by president Arce to gather any kind of support. The Bolivians are tired of his lies, economic failure and corruption. But today’s act is far worse. As the poor in Bolivia will suffer even more due investors leaving the country and economic crisis getting worse.

Dude, go to Argentina, Uruguay or Chile(Santiago only). Those are basically the most ok countries in LA. Safe enough and without much risk of political turmoil. Argentina's economy is terrible right now, but if your income comes from the US you won't have anything to worry about and even though they're in shambles they are in general highly educated.

This coup was undermined by a disgruntled guy who was fired the day before because of his ego. The people of Bolivia, Venezuela, and Cuba have an education in civics. So, any right-wing coup will fail and potentially lead to civil war. The current president of Bolivia appointed people from the opposition party that did the last coup. Evo morales may control the party, but he has distanced himself from the president.

Their were Liberals In west who supported the last coup because they saw Evo Morales as a socialist dictator. Not that he actually catered to the needs of the people. That is why his party has been dominating elections for the last 20 years. They thought the reason the right-wing opposition was losing was due electoral fraud. The people of Bolivia, Venezuela, and Cuba have an education in civics. They know the right-wing will cater to the rich and sell out their resources to foreign corporate entities. That's what the President under the coup did.
