When I was 12 my mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer and was only given 6 months to live, and even if she made it past those six months, doctors told her she was unlikely to reach 57. She turned 60 two weeks ago and she's doing really well. Ageing is a privilege and it's beautiful, no matter the wrinkles , the gray hairs...I'm turning 25 this year and although I'm constantly melancholic because I can't believe I'm not a child anymore, I love celebrating birthdays and ageing, it means you're alive and you get to live, getting old is actually great!

And what that girl doesn’t know is that Botox makes you age faster by reducing facial muscle tone. She will look awful by 45. Because she will continue to do Botox to fix the damage from previous Botox in a downward spiral. And her face will be ugly regardless because you won’t be able to see her facial expressions. Life is not a photograph. People see you in person. And without facial expressions a person looks at best dumb and at worst creepy.

The cheek thing confuses me because my cheeks have become much sharper as I've aged. Many young people have chubby cheeks. Romantic painters used to accentuate the cheeks and give everyone rounder features than they already had for that very reason. Have you ever seen a classical painting of a woman with a 'snatched' face??? No. What we even associate with youth changes dramatically, not just what we associate with beauty.

People who live good and holy lives glow as they age. They seem to reflect the radiance of Heaven as they approach. People who die in a state of grace very often lose their wrinkles and aged look moments before death. I have witnessed this rather astonishing event twice. The day she passed away my very devout and loving mother in law looked like a young girl, and she was 82 and of course very ill. It's this strange thing almost like a miracle. Fulton Sheen said age is a measure of how close you are to God. As an old man, he said he was trying to grow younger because he was growing towards God. We are bodies and souls.

Americans (not sure where u live) really should use their PTO if they get any. We don't get much vacation time in most jobs, while Europeans get more. It's important to enjoy time to relax and have fun before you get old. Not all of us get to retirement age, and it's a crime against humanity to expect people to work until they are not youthful and energetic anymore.

I'm 36 and I always say not everyone does their makeup with the goal of fitting into a beauty standard. It doesn't need to make you look younger, it doesn't need to "balance" your face, it doesn't need to "lift," it doesn't have to "hide your imperfections" or "enhance" anything, it can just be there because you wanted to put it on or because you want to express yourself creatively or whatever. Not everyone's goal is to look younger and "prettier" with makeup. Thank you so much for this video and for ALL of your videos that discuss topics like this!!

I want to look my best without a doubt, but I am not interested in fillers, lasers, or what makeup technique looks best on "older" people. I am constantly bombarded with titles such as "how to look younger or are you aging yourself". It is ridiculous and the obsession with youth is scary to me. It should always be about what you like, everyones face is shaped different and that is what needs to be considered. Not what an influencer says you should be doing because the way you have always done it is wrong.

I spent a lot of time at her house and at her friends' houses. Uchinaachu culture emphasizes respecting one's elders because of the knowledge they have gained over their lives. On the one hand I could be very cynical and say it’s easy to have a pro aging stance when you’re 30 and you’re still, ldarling as society would deem-of course, I think so too. ❤But the fact that you are so young and you get that aging is the reward is so refreshing and so affirming to me. Im a 55 year-old woman who has, battled lots of body issues and others. I survived breast cancer three years ago and radiation and have been taking tamoxifen for 3 years, to block my estrogen. And while it helps to keep me alive it wreaks havoc in other areas, like my skin and weight gain, etc. But I’m here, I have a very good chance of being here a great long while. I am so grateful that your channel exists, and it’s giving me a sort of a hug I needed so that I can go in and play with my make up-not really going for any desired outcome, rather than just having fun basically putting paint on my canvas. My honest opinion is that high blush makes most people look older than low blush. Buccal fat is a very youthful feature! Contouring it all away (or removing it surgically) fits a trend that young people like right now, but it actually mimics the natural aging our faces go through, ie the diminishment of those fat stores. Especially when I was younger (teens and early twenties), I found SO many style choices to look "old." I couldn't fathom why my mother would wear jeans she felt flattered her shape instead of current trends. Unfortunately, I don't think any messaging could have reached me enough to change my mind. I needed some wisdom from living!

Kids don't do that so much nowadays so you don't see it much, but I see that style of blush as more natural lol. Kids' faces tend to look flushed down, not up, lol. Trends come and go and the lifting thing has stuck around for a little while but it’ll shift at some point too. The ideal face shape shifts with time. The ideal body shape shape shifts with time. It’s a moving target and the older I get the more I see that and the more comfortable I get with just ignoring it and doing what makes me happy. The flattering thing with clothing really spoke to me. I am someone who is naturally very curvy and that has only intensified since I started working out. Some people might say I have a pear shape, I don’t necessarily agree with that. Anyway, the conventional wisdom to balance out my figure to make me look one way or the other is something I’ve always battled against because I actually don’t like how that makes me look. I like to lean into my shape the way it is, not try and make it something else. Always have. And the same thing goes with my makeup. I think that mindset, that you need to change yourself to look a certain way, is a lot of what can rob women of their confidence. Your shape, your face, who you are, is beautiful. You don’t need to be someone else.

I love this! I’m approaching 42 and I don’t do my makeup to look youthful or flattering. Makeup to me is an expression of who I am and it’s not always pretty but it makes me look interesting. And it makes me sad that young girls think Botox is “preventative care” and “preserving natural beauty” when it’s anything but that. There’s a big difference between taking care of your skin for the future and injecting questionable fillers to stop aging. I’ve earned every wrinkle and eye bag and jowl! 😊

Omg, YES! More people need to see this video! ❤ I turn 40 next year, and I’ve definitely noticed changes just this past year. Seeing all the youthful advertising can be hard sometimes because if you don’t look that way, you feel “not as pretty” anymore because you’re aging. But reminding ourselves that we are blessed to even be aging when a lot of people didn’t get that chance is something to appreciate instead of hate. Your makeup here looks absolutely gorgeous on you, by the way, and I have to say I love the “thinner” brows on you as well as the “downturn” eyeliner!! ☺️🫶

I have no idea how old anyone is. I’m almost 48, and I have no idea what that is supposed to look like. Some of my peers have fine lines and wrinkles, some look like very smooth. Some have done cosmetic procedures, some have not. I do skincare because it makes my skin feel soft and I enjoy the ritual. I’m not going to stress over how I look because I’m not fooling anyone into thinking I’m in my 20s, no matter what I do.

So glad to be following your channel and being exposed to these conversations. The idea of "ageing is the best case scenario" is not something that is said in my culture, so I'm happy to get exposed to it this way. Make up that goes 'against the grid' has also been a major game changer for me. My eye shape does not allow upturned eyeliner, so I had to figure it out on my own what looked best. 'Younger' seems to mean mostly 'currently trending' as, to be honest, different blush placement can make your cheeks looks fuller, which I would argue looks younger. It all depends on how you look at it. Would love to see more people appreciate their own faces and different make up styles, thanks for the video!

I do think GenX women are really changing things. Remember when June Allyson (who I certainly didn't recognize as a kid!) did ads for Depend in the '80s? Now that women our age have to (ahem) deal with that, the tone of those ads is so completely different! It's women going out for drinks with friends and getting body art, not playing shuffleboard. I hope it means we're "allowing" ourselves to just stay who we are, pink hair and bootcuts and Duran Duran and all.

We should talk about after effects. Filler after effects are a worry. One day, like me, the elasticity of your skin disminishes. Not an issue, just normal. How much filler do you keep getting? I empathise, and I’m lucky I didn’t have the internet in my 20’s. The best preventative is skincare. Xxx

People need to keep in mind that the beauty industry thrives on our insecurities. They sell things by making us feel we look "too old" or need to correct our natural unique features. And the most ironic thing about this current obsession with premature anti-aging procedures and products is that these kind of things only make a young person look older. Botox and filler tend to give a particular appearance that isn't natural and is associated with the age range that these treatments used to be geared towards.

I had this problem when I was younger. I had a baby face and looked like I was in high school until I was 30 and looked like a college student until I was 40. Not kidding, in late 30s I had a coworker who thought I was just out of college. I still look younger than my age - sunscreen and genes. My mom was the same way. People thought she was my older sister. The best advice I have is if you need vision correction, wear glasses, not contacts. Glasses give you instant credibility. And wear plain dark frames, tortoise shell colored or black if those look good on you. If not, try dark red or dark purple. Also, wear a plain hairstyle. If your hair is long, wear a bun or chignon. If shorter, try a bob. Curly or wavy hair tends to make you look younger, so if you have that texture, I'd keep it short. Also, wear makeup, including eye shadow, mascara, and liner. Makeup makes you look more sophisticated which translates to older. And don't worry. In about 10 years, this problem will get better!

So…’aging’ woman here!👋 This vid was AWESOME! First of all, you are spot on! I’ve never been one to latch on to beauty ‘trends’…I do what looks best on ME! I do my blush at a somewhat lower placement because it not only looks the best for my features, it looks NATURAL! Who in the world blushes where ‘everyone’ says you should put blush?! I have personally never seen ANYONE blush there! But they DO blush in the ‘boyfriend’ placement area! I personally feel ridiculous in contour, but I adore a natural looking bronzer btw! Oh…and your ‘downturned’ eyeliner really made me think of old Hollywood! It looked so natural and pretty! I’m 57 and darn proud of it because I have TAKEN CARE of myself from the inside out. I hate FAKE anything. So my goal has always been to look NATURAL while also just enhancing what God gave me. I never cared what my age was! The beauty industry definitely doesn’t have me in its clutches…but I know many who are, sadly.

This makeup look is so beautiful and is actually my favorite look I’ve seen from you in a while! There isn’t one way to look beautiful and I feel bad for the people defining beauty as one “in” thing, therefore boxing themselves in. It’s like art, I find Boticelli’s Venus beautiful just like I find Khalo’s Self Portrait in a Velvet Dress beautiful for entirely different reasons. I don’t find one more valuable than the other, I love them both. P.s. I agree with you that the boyfriend blush looks great on you and I love when you do downturned eyes. Ironically, there is something very youthful about the innocence and roundness it give to the eyes even though “it makes you look older”

I'm so glad you touched on the fashion advice content out there. I used to follow a creator who made videos with tips on how to buy clothing that is better quality. But she started putting out content about dressing for your body. And it was the sort of advice that was like "don't wear this or you'll cut off your legs" "don't wear that or you'll lose your length". And I unfollowed because honestly, I don't want to spend the rest of my life fighting what I look like. My legs are short. Why am I trying to pretend they're not? I don't want to avoid wearing what makes me happy just because it isn't necessarily "flattering".

I always appreciate hearing your perspective in these makeup musings videos. Your perspectives are quite helpful for us to ponder and reflect on. Thank you for being so kind and down to earth and gracious. I typically am makeup free, and because I have a baby face that also looks quite innocent and naive (I've been told by many)... I will sometimes thrown on lipstick 💄 in order to HELP me LOOK OLDER (and less innocent and young.) Looking "older" is a good thing! It gives off wisdom and strength and a "Don't try to take advantage of me, I've got life experience" vibes 👊 😉

This kind of content is exactly why I’ve followed you for years, Kelly ❤ I don’t live in the US and have brown skin so your makeup recommendations are not very helpful to me (we just don’t have the same brands here and colour theory makes it very hard to judge how the makeup you use in your videos would translate) but I love how you think deeply about makeup - the business of it, marketing, formulas, trends, ethics, cultural aspects and psychology of makeup use. I love the Jessica DeFino quotes. Anti-aging is the ultimate trap in this consumerist, capitalist hellscape. Convince even a fraction of people that it’s important and you can sell every manner of crème, serum, vitamin, treatment, injection, cosmetic procedure - whether they’re not wealthy and buying a drugstore product or rich enough to evolve laser treatments and plastic surgery - over the course of DECADES. If you take this into account, refusing to buy into anti-aging push is a radical act of resistance. I would add - hats off to Allure for challenging the narrative. I wonder if this had an impact on their advertising?

Gosh thank you for making this video! I think about this topic a LOT. I'm only 26, I have a similar face shape as you and I love the boyfriend blush placement. A few months ago my friend (same age) told me that I put my blush in the "wrong spot" and it's supposed to be high on my cheekbone to snatch my face and that really annoyed me 😭 I told her I put it there on purpose because I think it's super cute and the higher placement doesn't do anything for me and she apologized but it still felt really bad having my makeup policed like that. Every time I see tiktok beauty trends like makeup blindness and insisting on the "right way" to do makeup I think of that exchange and it makes me sad.

This video is so refreshing! I tend to refrain from commenting about which side "I like best" because of the young comments... I just turned 40 and people don't think I look my age and I feel like it's a curse because people tend to take me less seriously in my job because of it. While I don't particularly enjoy getting older (some minor ailments...) I know I can't fight it. In make up, I like contour in the hollow of my cheeks because I like to make my face looks a bit more sharp (it is round) and I still enjoy the sunburn blush so much (thanks to you!). I have noticed all the young models on make up website, which is why I rely more and more on beauty RU-vid: I have small wrinkles and don't want to hide them but I also don't want my concealer to accentuate them! Loved this video! ❤ Well done!
