I just bought the MacBook Air 3 days ago and I LOVE it. Literally you guys make it seem like the screen is trash. It is amazing. If you never owned a MacBook like myself and buy the Air it will really blow you how beautiful it really is. You can tell it is meant to be use professionally. You won't even notice the screen anyways! And the battery is insane, I got it on 60% and went on lots of web pages and Netflix and 3 days later it barley hit 20% and was still going strong.
I agree, the retina display is definitely nice but not worth the extra money for a smaller screen. While retina Macbooks use a glossier glass panel over the screen and retina displays are denser/more vibrant in their color representation, the Macbook AIr's display has a nice natural tone to it and is still extremely colorful. If colors are a little too light and washed out for you, don't forget that you can select many color profiles in display options as well as adjust them to your likeness in calibration. This is much cheaper for a display that looks nice and is bigger in size and a laptop that is faster in specs.
Apple has official removed the Macbook Air brand with Macbook. The Macbook is geared towards casuals. While the Macbook pro will increase in terms of power and get as slim as the current MacBook Air. MacBook Pro is meant for core users for editing and playing games.
I dont understand, how many things are you connecting, physically, to something that you should only be buying to have untra-portability. If you aren't carrying it around every day, get a macbook pro. If you are carrying it around every day... you need to start going more wireless if you need so many ports.
yes but if apple dropped the price then who would buy a pc? ms would go out of bidness and what would walmart have to sell? okay maybe $100. $150 tops!
planetlizz I just wait for the day I will find a notebook with the same sleek design as Apple with a reasonable price, I think $800> is a bit excessive for a home computer which is what I want. China, I hope you're listening! :-)
www.engadget.com/2016/07/27/xiaomi-mi-notebook-air-laptop-china/ Here you go under $800. Although I'd wait a while and let other people test it out before buying
The screen is not that bad. I purchased the 2015 MacBook air last week and I also have a MacBook pro retina and yes the Retina screen is very nice however I wouldn't say the screen on the MacBook air is poor quality.
Dallas Parrott to all those people who think the MacBook Air has a bad screen I live with the crapiest screen and it's on a chromebook so I think I could live with it
Thank you so much for producing this video of the two. I currently have had the MacBook for about 7 days now and love it. I am a average user (web browsing and school) and love the Display for the MacBook.
+Andrea Ross Hey, make sure to wait for this summer in June to see what new MacBooks Apple releases at their annual 2016 WWDC (Worldwide Developer Conference). I wouldn't get a Macbook until then.
+Pokemon Marvel And all game reviews You should really go for the macbook pro 13 inch it's superior in every way to the new macbook. Higher resolution display, faster ram, 720p front facing camera a far more powerful GPU, Core i5 CPU and 256gb base storage all for the same price as the new Macbook. If your using it for editing videos, playing games, as well as downloading applications it's the best choice and it will have a longer lasting value. The new MacBook is on par with the IPad Pro in terms of power which is dissipointing for a laptop especially one so expensive.
well get the mac air , get a black sticker for the bezel and thats it , if you use it for school navigation internet listening to music and streaming movies it will do the job like every other computer, if you want the new colors of the new macbook put a case on it or plastidip it and thats it
There is a ton of difference in performance, the Air kills the MacBook pretty much, those who want the best for their bucks should get the Air right now in 2016
Every apple fan: APPLE PLEASE MAKE A MACBOOK AIR WITH A RETINA DISPLAY!! Apple: *drops 4 new laptops* *prices all of them higher than MacBook Air* *removes cheaper MacBook air* *removes legacy ports* Apple fans: 😳well um...
Filip Veselý It's useless because it's only 480p. And it's typical Apple Greed that they want at least $1200 for a computer that has only a 480p camera. Heck, that's the same camera in a $150 Chromebook.
Filip Veselý Just because _you_ are too dense to know how to use a better webcam doesn't mean that others wouldn't want a webcam as good as other laptops.
I had a 2007 model also, but did a lot of damage to it 2 years ago, ended up getting a 13inch MacBook Air 2014 model in December 2014 but now I really want to upgrade.
Personally, i love the MacBook 12" retina, i would not want another computer. The device is absolutely beautiful and has enough power for what i actually need.
Having decided I'm going to go for a laptop over an iPad, the choices Apple give you are so frustrating. It's clear that unless you're willing to pay silly money for the excellent 2016 Pro, which I'm not, you have to make compromises with the MacBook and Air. All in all, I think I'm going for the MacBook unless anyone on here seriously recommends otherwise? I just wanted a laptop/tablet for web browsing, online shopping, media consumption and keeping track of my diary and emails, so I think the MacBook will be perfect for me. The design is sensational, the display stunning, and I'm amazed at how thin and light Apple have made this thing; the perfect couch companion! Bit disappointed Apple didn't make it a tad cheaper though considering the processor and only one port...
Great video. You provided an amazing review. The best machine would be a lighter Macbook air with 13" retina screen. In 2017, I settled on the 2015 Macbook pro new from Amazon for less than $1100. Definitely one of the best deals currently out there.
O Smith I got my gf the 128gb version and got her a 200gb micro USB on BF for $30. I couldn't see myself paying $200+ to get 128gb more drive space :-)
i have the new macbook, i find it way better then the normal air, it has better features and handing, it has a great screen, i can run all my programs without any problems, the battery works fantastic, the mousepad is also awesome, it has 3 finger touch, you can basically do anything
I got the Macbook. Like it better than my macbook pro 2015. Numbers are just numbers. For non-heavy duty, macbook is good enough. Premium feel and portability is important for me. And having something lighter than "Air" is cool.
I currently have the Macbook Pro 13 inch retina display and I'm just curious to know what is going to be my next one,but I'm really not impressed with the options.I'm probably going to get the 2016 macbook because of the retina display and the fact that it has a total different look, which I like. But I'm gonna stick with mine for some more years and I hope they release an actual good one.
Is there really that much of a difference in processing speed between the M3 & i5? It doesn’t seem like there is that much of a significant difference..
+Hi-Fi Insider To answer your question, I chose the Macbook for our family laptop. We have a 2015 version though, as we got it before the 2016 one came out that was used in this video. (The space gray one you see in the previous video) Before that we had a 13" MBA and even though we do miss the ports at times overall the RMB is a big step up in many ways.
+t00 sp00ky +Max Yuryev Thank you for getting back to me. I decided to go with 2016 pink M5 over 2015. On 2015, it lags a bit when I type. Hope 2016 doesn't have this issue.
I don’t understand why people would get the MacBook. Why not get the MacBook Pro instead? It has the same price, slightly less portable, larger screen size, and much better specs. If you’re saying “I would just like to do web browsing, etc.”, then a MacBook Air 11” 2015 (They’re reselling them as clearance in Malaysia; I just got one) can clearly do its job, and portability is not an issue at all. Maybe if someone has an answer, I’d be glad to hear and do a slight debate. It is always good to see have different opinions and more information.
I have a Core i7 MB Air coming Thursday and I'm not even going to open it, and just sell it (for less than it cost me, of course). Though they are likely killing the MB Air line, they will probably have a MB Pro update and possibly a 13"-14" Macbook announcement in the next few months. So I'm just going to sell it and wait until then. If no updates are announced, then I'll get the 12" Macbook with the m7 processor. It's replacing my iPad Air 2 so I'll wait and see what is/isn't announced soon. And I could care less about the 480p vs 720p webcam. I'll use a 1080p external one if I feel the need (though I never used the built-in webcam on my last laptop anyway).
+Orias That's what I ended up doing. Since it was considered "custom ordered" (core i7 apparently made it custom) the Apple Store couldn't go through normal return channels. I had to call the Apple Store while there & they told the store to just ship it back to them (once they gave the RMA number). Took almost an hour. I ended up just ordering the m7 MacBook, rather than wait until any announcements. I wanted the ultra portability/battery life the MacBook gives me. I've been very happy with it so far.
+Orias Yeah, with a PPI of 127 on the 13.3", it's not great, especially compared to the Retina displays on the others in the Mac lineup. If you don't want the MacBook, I would definitely wait and see what the rumored new MacBook Pro will look like. The fact that Apple didn't feel the need to upgrade the display in the MacBook Air suggests it's being phased out.
+Orias Yes. With the education discount, you can get the 13.3" MacBook Air with 8GB RAM for $949 with the i5 processor, or $849 for the 11.6" Air with 4GB RAM.
When I was in collage my classmate had the MacBook. Even with the one port only I can say the most important is how portable it is. You can carry it anywhere without worrying about its weight unlike other laptops. It works great for words, presentation, homeworks, pictures, videos or movies.
While I've never owned a Mac, and can only value them based on raw specs (I have no product loyalty and don't care for gimmicks), I would really like to get one of these. I honestly want the Air but the only thing stopping me is the piss poor TN panels and no retina display. If I'm going to get an Apple product, it needs to be higher than 1080p.
Now you can get the MacBook 12" 2016 for basically the same price as the MacBook Air at BestBuy and the MacBook is way better. The thing that has the MacBook Air is the ports that's it.
If Apple put in a retina display, force touch track pad, slim down the bezels, and bump up performance a little more... the most perfect macbook! Unfortunately, this is why I gave up my 2015 13 inch MBA for a 2015 15 inch MBP.
I'm thinking of buying the MacBook as a replacement for my iPad. I have an Alienware 15 for my intensive task as well as a custom built PC. Only thing I want to know, how's the video editing on the MacBook?
Prasanna Kumar Honestly if you're willing to consider getting the 12inch MacBook you might as well get the MacBook Pro, there isn't that much of a price difference especially if you consider the fact that the Pro is MILES better. If you want portability but are willing to sacrifice quality then go for the 12 inch MacBook as oppose to the Air and the MacBook *does* have a better display. But honestly as far as quality goes, I'd go for the Air (out of the air and the 12 inch MacBook) the air balances battery life, portability and overall quality perfectly in my opinion -if the retina screen isn't THAT important to you.
Hallo I am from Greece and your description was detailed ( thumb on) I read from Internet that the new Mac book 2016 editions 1,2 and 1,3 are faster from the MacBook Air 13 model 2015 and from any Mac book air 13 whatever period is belonging to. I am asking you this is truth thank a lot
The best review I've seen about the MacBook says "Wait for the next gen", I I believe it's true, the new MacBook it's not good enough for now, just like the MB Air was when it launched, back in 2008, so if you see this, if you want to buy your first notebook, then buy the Air 13", it's the best deal you can get, and even if you desire the new MB, just wait, now it's not good enough =)
I'm a college student in need of a more recent laptop I'm currently working with a toshiba 2007 model lol would I be okay if I go buy a used 2012 MacBook air? I would only use to write papers, music, and watch movies.
It really depends on what do you plan to use it for, and what is the condition and the price of the used Air. It's not Full HD, so you can't watch 1080p movies unless you conect it to an external monitor. The Air is the cheaper laptop from Apple, and it's pretty light and reliable with a nice trackpad. But the screen is really dated. Do you want macOs, or are you ok with Win10 too? Maybe you would like the Asus UX305, it was compared a lot with the Macbook 12 for being even thinner, with similar specs for a much cheaper price (of course, the build quality, while good, is not that nice). I don't know the details of that model in particular, but it seems people like it. There's a FHD and a QHD version, just check if you're ok with the trackpad because the ones from Asus are not as good as the Apple ones and the quality is not consistent between models.
UltimateKarma If you're not into serious gaming and/or graphic design, Photoshop etc I'd go with the Air. But honestly if you're a serious gamer I wouldn't go for a MacBook anyway.
Screen res isn't bad I have it and I can barely tell the difference between this and 4k when watching videos or editing macbook air is a sure pick for me and always will be Iove it
Really! So if your like watching a 1080p movie is there any difference between the retina and the Air's screen at all ? This is a major problem for me since i want to buy a laptop but confused between the Macbook pro Retina and the air. I'm also coming from a very cheap 1366x768 TN panel acer display which is horrible in every way.
Thanx for your answer! I was hoping for a bit more detailed answer for my question since the "display" is a deciding point for me. I'm planning to keep this computer for the next 4.-5 years so i want something future proof as well.
true. I used my 2012 15" macbook pro retina for 3-4 years and switched to a 2011 13" macbook air for the portability and the difference was STARK. here's hoping apple will release a macbook air with a higher res screen in 2016
macbook 12 inch, can be good for browing and editing. IT IS NOT MEANT FOR GAMING. macbook isint bad at all. It is a very thin laptop. very poratable. good for school works. it a powerful laptop if we take a look at the size. the only thing i hated about was the pricing. it'd have been perfect if apple at least lower the price for the laptop.
we cannot complain for the port guys, cause if we take a look at the size, we know that onlty one port can be there for such a thin laptop. it would be better if you have a dock which contains a lot of slots for sd cards, usb ports and all that stuff. i mean usb c is not bad at all
Patriot do you think the MacBook Air will be good for editing videos with Final Cut Pro 10 and editing photos with Photoshop (aka creating quality RU-vid videos) ?
Alex Bunyan no one really knows, there are rumors its going to come out june-july, and others say it might come out January 2017. but trust me its going to be worth the wait. ive had my mac pro for like 6-8 years . and im waiting for this new one, because i need to upgrade.
If anything is changing soon, it'll be announced at apple's wwdc next monday, the 13th. That's what I'm waiting for before I buy one for graduate school.
