@@iixixiboy3475 because USB-C is a connector standard, no company has a monopoly on it because its open source, no company makes USB-C. 700 of the biggest tech companies in the world are among the USB-IF, a non-profit org who have designed USB standards since 1995 for the explicit purpose of making connector standards across every company and device type so we dont need more then 1 connector for every device we own. apple is on this forum, yet still dont adopt it. there is zero advantages to lighting as a connector, no other company uses it, apple has the monopoly on lighting cables, it runs on USB 2.0 power and data delivery speeds, instead of USB3.0 like USB-C does, less reliable, more expensive for consumers to buy. USB-C is better in every way and has been for 7 years.

Planned obsolesence? I'm still getting iOS updates for my iPhone 8 Plus from 2017, and it still works really well, including seamless interoperability with my MacBook and work iMac in so many ways. How many 6 year old Android phones can say the same? How many Android devices of any generation work as well with PCs? The only Android phone that interests me is the Fairphone 5. However, I do agree that there is nothing majorly distinguishable between the iPhone 12 to the iPhone 15. And anybody who buys a new iPhone every generation, or even every other generation, has more money than sense. (I always buy refurbished, at least a year after release)

It's because phones seem to have become a lot of people's primary devices in recent years. People who used to watch videos, browse the web, read, and even write text on desktop PCs and laptops now do all that on their phones. Because the average person now does everything on their phone, they are willing to pay more for it than they used to when it was just a texting and calling device. I don't understand why people want that, but it explains why phone companies can charge such high prices and get away with it.

Bought an iPhone 11 pro 256gb for £380 second hand a year and a half ago. Absolute beast of a phone. Costs me less than £5 on pay monthly. There is literally no need for any iPhone after the 11 pro with its 3 lenses. Everyone should be looking at second hand / refurbished nowadays - such good deals and good for environment

They only added the effort to converting to type C for the pro version, the regular still uses the old usb 2.0 from lightning port, I won't be surprised if it won't charge sometimes because it's not an "apple certified" cable.

I think we should be comparing with flagships since iPhone is a flagship. Pixel 8 and S24 aren't even out yet. So we are comparing 2023 iPhone with 2022 android flagships. 2022 iPhone had lightning port with USB 2.0, which has a maximum transfer speed of 480 Mb/s.
