I'd love a deep-dive on Apple (and other tech companies') sustainability claims. Offsetting using carbon credits is usually a red flag, increasing the use of recycled materials is really good, but the easiest and most impactful thing tech companies could do is extend device lifespans🙃
It's ironic how we can actually be more environment friendly by not falling trap to this extreme consumerism... all the while the "tech enthusiasm" promotes the consumerism
Battery life on Apple Watch is a joke. My Apple Watch broke a month ago from a drop and I held off for this update but wanted a watch and bought a $15 joint off Amazon and get this. I can remote locate my phone, control audio controls on my phone, tracks my steps (primary reason I got it), tells me the weather, has more screen appearances (although most are awful, but a few good ones), but the best feature is…I ONLY HAVE TO CHARGE IT ONCE A WEEK! Apple has to give us a low power mode that’s customizable where you can turn some features off to extend battery usage…I don’t think I’m going to update to another Apple Watch till I can get at least 4 days before a charge.
I'm still listening so I might be wrong but interesting how the word "Samsung" hasn't been mentioned anywhere in this podcast....I'm 80% in. That's like the major competition but somehow I've heard goggle, LG, Asus, Qualcomm and all...but not "Samsung". Interesting stuff
Let's goooo! It's awesome to see Marques being one of the most trusted tech personality in the media. First Google quoted him at the Pixel event and now Apple. The hard work and persistence does pay off! 💯
@@lindinforester How is that if they openly criticize Apple's carbon neutral initiative in this episode? Even saying that Apple throwing away their perfectly fine leather chairs is counterintuitve to mission, and how making any product cannot technically be fully carbon neutral.
Using machine learning to condense machine learning models to fit on your phone is the 2020s equivalent of using Limewire to download Limewire Pro from the 2000s
You guys forgot to mention that Apple kept referring to the U2 chip as the U (2nd generation). Apple always finds a way to give us U2 when we don't ask for it.
Super proud of y'all! It was dope to see you guys mentioned during the event. Great point about UX cohesiveness with double-tap! Never thought about that before🤔
The new Airpod Pro 2 with USB-C buds and case are also now IP54 while the lightning versions are both IPX4. Also, because the Case is tied into Find My they can't be separated from the Airpod's themselves. The 3 items are a package on Airpods Pro.
02:19 I randomly got seated next to Marques and can attest that he was genuinely surprised to see his quote in an Apple event. I guess that makes “RU-vidrs” a real media source now? (Nice to meet you dude!)
I wanted to use it because of the stupid hand strap I had on the back, but the way the lounge chairs sat + the mic stand it was just kind of in the way and didn't work as well as I'd hoped.
Just because I know David likes to have his facts straight, I want to point out that Nvidia did not create ray tracing. Pixar was using it for years before Nvidia released their RTX cards. What Nvidia did though, was to bring real-time ray tracing to the fore with their specialized hardware accelerators. From Wikipedia: "Using a computer for ray tracing to generate shaded pictures was first accomplished by Arthur Appel in 1968."
I don’t get how they can pat themselves on the back about environment when their whole business model is an annual product cycle and products you can’t fix yourself.
Truely the best tech-podcast by far! Great work guys! And as a multi year follower of MK and later the rest of the gang, happy to see you come this far! MEGA!
You guys are sooo Funny. The first outburst of a laugh was when Marques mentioned the raccoon, and the other was when Andrew mentioned the zoo. You guys really make our day
You guys were having way too much fun on this cast 😂 You can feel the post-event high. Looked like Marques was trying to wrangle his children, but he’s just a chill dude. Perfect start to the weekend!
The skit was really cringe. But I really hope what they state is real, not only paying some other company that bought a forest and „promised” they wont cut it down if 5 companies pay them…
Apple is ridiculous‼️ the problem is they say they care about environment an consumers but fight against right to repair, talks about less packaging but just cause more packaging by having to ship everything in individual boxes and causing everyone to buy stuff separate that is required for function
Titanium is not stronger than stainless steel. It has a better strength-to-weight ratio, so you can make a part that has similar strength as stainless steel but weighs less. Titanium is less dense compared to stainless steel. If you have two identical parts, one made from titanium and one made from stainless steel, they will have similar strength (not exact), but the titanium part will weigh significantly less. This is why titanium is so good for aerospace where weight is incredibly important. The titanium iPhone will not really be stronger, they are using it for weight savings and sexy marketing. It's been driving me crazy that everyone is saying it's going to be stronger.
Correction: Nvidia didn't invent ray tracing, this tech has existed since the mid 1900s or something. However there were no proper real-time implementations of that feauture until Nvidia decided to give it a shot.
@@eduardoregueiracampos The first algorithms were presented in 1968 by Arthur Appel, while the idea of ray tracing technically comes from the 16th century. The first time ray tracing was proposed to model global illumination was in 1980 by Turner Whitted.
That's not accurate. Nvidia didn't create ray tracing, that's what all the normies think who don't know anything about PCs which makes sense for people here. Ray tracing has been a thing since the 80s and companies like Disney, Pixar etc used it for movies. It was introduced into the mainstream by Microsoft with direct X 12 ultimate API. Nvidia just jumped on the band wagon first with their 20 series GPUs. Their marketing and mind share is so good most people think they literally invented ray tracing which is hilarious.
I just tried the double tap from the accessibility settings on my s7 and it worked flawlessly. A shame Apple hates supporting their old devices with new features, the excuse that they used regarding the better sensor doesn't hold much water.
6:44 It’s not system in processor, it’s system in package. The processor refers to the CPU only, The SoC refers to the M1 style chips with all the essential components fabricated in the same die, like the CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, RAM, in the same chip, and the SiP is basically the entire system packaged for space savings. With Apple Watch it has always been a SiP, and there was no rebranding.
Zooming digitally before pressing the shutter makes a substantial difference. The iPhone (only can speak for the regular 14) already fills with it's computational photography the missing pixels to get you the same output size as fully zoomed out. Also depending on the scene it sharpens and doing all kinds of stuff differently. For example taking a picture of some writings of your universities professors blackboard from last row is much better readable when you first zoom in and then take the picture. Maybe also another video to test these out.
Am I the only person that thinks the Apple Watch Ultra should get a refresh every two years? Truthfully the entire Apple Watch line should only get an upgrade once every two years there’s just not enough improvement from here to year at this point.
I genuinely believe that one of the biggest not talked about flaws of smartwatches is that they need both hands to operate them. The double tap will be a game changer for how people interact with smartwatches. Imagine a future where smartwatches have Vision Pro camera tech and you can select things on screen with your eyes and just double tap to select 🤯 (P.S: Please tell me someone remembers the "tilt-to-scroll" feature from the LG G Watch from like 2014. THAT'S a feature that needs to come back to smartwatches today 😭). Great episode as always!!!
I don't know if you've seen the series The Peripheral. It's a futuristic themed dystopia where the use of hand gestures to control visual and audio input is used. Just wanted to say how cool that kind of tech would be.
You should just start the podcast at the beginning instead of playing a random clip that you think viewers would want to see. We really just want to listen to the podcast. Much love ❤
Raytracing by david 49:01 "they have it in minecraft now!" 1. It's been like 3 years 💀 2. Only on bedrock, but some shaders (with one of 2 mods for new versions of minecraft) actually does use ray tracing (mainly seus ptgi)
I really love watching MKBHD coverage of Apple. I’m fully embroiled in the Apple ecosystem but I still appreciate Android and have nothing against it. But I just appreciate their intelligent takes on Apple products.
The carbon neutral topic really interests me. Specially because they are doing most things by themselves without being pushed into it. I agree with the double standard Marques mentioned but also agree that it’s really positive.
This is delightful to watch. I only hope Marques and the crew haven't been compromised by this recognition, by apple...I hope we'd still expect and get only the truth on products from every tech company? That's my worry really...
Apple has arrived to the point now where the defining feature of the new iPhone is its color/finish... that says it all.🤪😝🤣 And none of the tech reviewers can call Apple out on its BS, because if they do, then Apple won’t invite them back next year, when the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s 6x “zoom” lens and revolutionary new gray finish is revealed 😂
Haven't watched the whole thing yet, but I just watched the intro and the feature you're talking about that Apple introduced regarding dogs/cats/people is about recognizing SPECIFIC dogs/cats/people. Dogs and cats now show up in the "People" section of the photos app renamed "People, Pets, and Places". You can name these specific dogs and cats and then new photos taken of them will automatically be recognized as that dog or cat and be named appropriately.
Not quite, we're talking about the new portrait mode that claims it will auto recognize people/cats/dogs and if it does, will also use the depth sensor so that you can retroactively add bokeh even if you originally take a normal photo.
@@known-bug I didn't realize we used it as the opening clip so I was wondering how it was confusing! Now I see without context it's not as obvious till later in the full conversation!
To add to that beginning conversation. IOS already has basically a real live Pokédex feature with the camera. Any picture you take of an animal, plant, or food, the camera will recognize and tell you what it is. I use it often to identify bugs/plants/birds in the wild and its very accurate
