12 millisecond latency due to the R1 chip is incredible. John Carmack kept complaining about not being able to get those kind of speeds since there is so much bloat from a variety of manufacturers and abstraction layers. Around 30 milliseconds is the threshold for presence and not noticing lag in VR, so 12 milliseconds is excellent!

I liked what Apple did with the front-facing screen, attempting to address the issues people had when interacting with Google Glass. Like, the screen flash when a picture is taken, so people don't feel they're being secretly recorded, or letting the eyes show through, so people know that they actually have the wearer's attention. But I think ultimately, VR and AR headsets might have to be separate devices. VR requires that the environment be fully blocked out, so a big visor seems necessary. But for AR devices to become mainstream, they have to be lighter and less obtrusive.
@VMRDY
@VMRDY Год назад
People will still look like a dork if they were these in public or any setting where there are other people present. The Google Glass, even though it has limited functionality, is less dorky than these.
@JVIPER88
@JVIPER88 Год назад
@@VMRDY No question. I don't think people hated on Google Glass because it was "dorky". I think they were concerned about privacy mostly, and the "rudeness" of it. Because someone could be talking to you and you're just looking at the small screen in your eye instead. With AR glasses, I think those issues can be addressed, and people would like it.

You’re not supposed to get it unless it’s not even a concern and you could just get it easily. As the technology succeeds they’ll release a Vision Air which is thinner, lighter, cheaper, with some features removed and a Vision with some features removed and a more clunky design. They always release the premium products first and then introduce the pricing ladder

As someone who has actually developed eye tracking hardware and software I can state from experience that there are massive usability hurdles that will be difficult to get over. The gesture control with hands is i think an incredible breakthrough if it’s actually as good as they say. But really I think those things just look way too dorky to ever catch on and they still limit field of view too much
@Quast

@ShadowriverUB
@ShadowriverUB Год назад
No, hardware wise pro vision is VR at it core and AR is just a add on... same as in Quest and other insideout tracking headset that technicly needs AR to function. The AR focus is purly phylisopical, goal is to make VR a device that not just used once and catch dust by mainstream which are connected to real more then virtual, people who use VR is daily basis are people with weak social life using applications like VRChat as substitute, so keeping connection with reality and surrounding in basic operation and keeping emersion optional is Apple solution solution. Hololens is transparent display AR headset, it cant block off reality and emerse you, while Vision Pro is... because in reality its VR headset, it can do way more then what hololens could ever do.

Despite glasses being a thing for 1000 years, people still have no idea how optics work. Your eyes would literally not be able to focus on just a few centimeters in front of you, so all VR headsets project the screen several meters in front of you, which is actually pretty good for your eyes. The worst thing is that nobody here is advocating for stop living in houses and towns, despite the fact that this is the biggest reason why eye problems are so common now compared to when people worked and lived in the wild and fields.

I can't really see this honestly, especially for graphic art there are resources for vr 3d modelling/animation but usually they're more clunky than they are useful, software would have to update just as fast, and find a _serious_ reason to be worth using over flat screen monitors. even at that level its still just a toy/novelty over a serious tool that increases production or quality.

If you need to collaborate on something in spaces that are not predetermined or controlled, I can see this being helpful. Apple was apparently harping on about the airplane scenario quite a bit, which makes sense. I can safely say that these goggles would be a downgrade from what I already have in my home theatre and office. I don't see any value in it personally. If they can get it down to around $600 - $1,200, then it will definitely pick up lower to middle income media consumers. And even at $3,500 I can see some larger businesses being interested in this for employees that need to interact with a lot of different departments. I question how practical any of this really is at the moment, but maybe with time the number of software tools will grow. I'd be surprised if the product loses its weird-factor in the next 5 years; adoption for this is probably going to be incredibly slow.

That's true, but I didn't actually see much need for any of the AR features. Why do I need to watch a film, or view my photos in my natural environment? I would probably always set it to one of those cool backgrounds anyway, so the whole selling point of AR is sort of moot. I think there's a ton of promise with AR but nothing immediate yet. For instance if the AR features allow me to interact with my natural environment in meaningful ways (maybe with IOT, where you can use the gesture features to do stuff like turn on lights). Or order stuff from a virtual menu. But first they have to solve the problem of people not wanting to look like wankers wearing these around, by reducing the price and form factor.

because the product is DOA. Work from home is over at most major companies and most workers are back in the office. The project was started during the pandemic but even Apple quickly abandoned WFH and was one of the first tech companies to order people back to the office. So who is this for? Definitely not companies. There's no reason for them to buy an AR headset when a majority of workers are back in teh office already and increasingly so.
