This is the second time I have uploaded this video due to it being deleted from RU-vid late December...I may not have all the info I did before in the description box but I did my best.
I am so excited to have found this product. It is a Bestand Spiralizer Attachment that is compatible with a KitchenAid Mixer. It worked so well. I will definitely use this over and over again. I can't wait to use it with veggies and spiralize them.
Here is the link...

Here is the recipe to the apples I canned...
Spiced Canned Apple Slices Sweetened with Honey {Canning Recipe}
This recipe will make 7 quarts.
Ingredients:
Apples (approximately 20 pounds)
1 to 1.5 cups honey or cane sugar
1/2 tsp sea salt
3 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp apple pie spice
seeds from one vanilla bean (optional)
How many apples will you need?
I think that trying to figure out just how many apples you need to fill a certain amount of jars is hard. The NCHPG says you’ll need about 20 pounds to fill 7 quarts, which is what you’ll need for this recipe.
Personally, I have taken a lot of guesswork out of canning by using a large pot that I know when it is full to a certain level, it will perfectly fill 7 quart jars. So I keep peeling and chopping until this pot is full- tomatoes, apples, jalapeños… doesn’t matter, when the pot is full, I am good to go! This has saved me a LOT of trouble!
If using a Johnny Apple Peeler (highly recommended!) run your apples through it- the apple will be accordion-sliced but still intact. Place the apple on a cutting board and cut it from top to bottom into three sections. Just cutting the slices in half is too big, and cutting into fourths is too small. Thirds are just right. Toss the slices into the pot.
If peeling and cutting by hand, peel your apples and then cut them into slices that are about 1/8″ to 1/4″ thick.
(I usually start heating my water bath soon after I start peeling and chopping apples.)
In a bowl, whisk together: 5 cups room temperature water, 1 to 1.5 cups honey or cane sugar (depending on sweetness of apples and your preferences), sea salt, cinnamon, apple pie spice, and the seeds scraped from one vanilla bean.
Put all of the sliced apples into a large pot, pour the spiced sweetened syrup over the apples and turn the heat to medium-high. Bring the apples and liquid to a boil and allow it to boil for five minutes, stirring frequently (but gently!). It is ready to put into the jars when all of the apples have wilted slightly and they are strongly boiling.
Fill jars with hot apple slices and their liquid, leaving 1/2-inch headspace. Remove any air bubbles, adjust lids, and process.
Let me know what you think about this product (this is not a paid advertisement!)

If you use the apple cores and peelings to make apple jelly, none is wasted. If you cut off the top and bottom before peeling, you may have less peel going into the cooking pot. As with the peels and cores, include these end pieces in yourapple jelly.

Great review! I have the hand crank one by Johnny Appleseed but I haven't experienced the problems you mentioned. It works so well and does have other things it can do but I've never tried them. I love mine so much so I won't desert my old friend yet. I just thought about it and I bet lemon peels would work well - mine really cuts close so I didn't need to use the potato peeler when I made my lemon extract!. So I'm glad your video inspired me to try that next time. Always learning! Love that and your site, friend.

I just bought the 5 blade KitchenAid model off of someone on Facebook Marketplace for $40, and it blew me away how fast it can peel and slice an apple. I couldn’t justify the about $100 price of a new one since that’s the main thing I’ll be using it for.

Enjoyed seeing your video review of this item. I had always wanted one, and I just bought one and tried to use it for the first time today to peel and slice apples for a pie. Mine is not working correctly. It is only slicing and peeling half of an apple, and then it stops and the apple spins but nothing else happens, and the part that’s attached to the skewer actually turns to mush. Some of my apples don’t get sliced or cut at all, and others only go about halfway through in the machine Doesn’t work correctly after that to finish the job. Have you ever had this problem with yours, and do you know what to do about it?
@OpenHandFarm
@OpenHandFarm 7 месяцев назад
I’m sorry to hear that Mary. I have had that problem many times with my other Apple corer, peeler. I had a few happen like that on this one. The problem is that your apple is too ripe. It always does better with a crisper apple. You could try just using an Apple corer and then just slice your apple with the skin on. I have dehydrated many apples that way this year. Not sure what you’re doing with yours. I just had a thought, maybe if you go to the store and buy one crisper apple and try it and then you would know if that is the problem or if the machine is defective. I hope this helps a little bit. Blessings on your apple peeling! And thanks so much for watching and commenting. 😁

"Core!" Looks so a-peeling Penny. Apple pie is my all-time favourite dessert. i'll be over for a slice in a short while :~} What do you do with the peelings and cores? Do you making apple cider vinegar? that's what i would do. "Waste-not-want-not" Blessings and much Love to you and your family from the UK Penny.

? I love apples too! I have a favorite recipe that calls for the apples to be peeled and cored, then julienned. Can you peel your apples and not core them with this attachment? Thank you for a fantastic and informative video!
@OpenHandFarm
@OpenHandFarm 7 месяцев назад
I don’t believe you can peel them and not core them. The way it holds onto it is with the core. I can’t think of any way other than hand peeling that you can do that with. You can definitely Julianne after the Apple is slice though. I hope you figure out a way. Thanks so much for watching and for your comment! Blessings on your day.

Hi, if you look at the peeler attachment on the bottom you’ll see a U shaped section which is the blade. Unscrew that to adjust how far forward it is which will reduce the thickness / depth of peel being removed. Side note, you can also do that to hand cranked peelers. Edit: continued watched a bit further and saw you mention the blade section. There should be a screw you can undo.

This is why I always choose to either hand peel or just leave the peel on it. I hate how much apple flesh is removed when using these hand crank/attachment peeling devices. That being said, I normally will do one or two pies/crisps at a time. I may feel differently if I had to process two bushels! 😂

Hi Dan! I tried looking up the link to give you and I cannot find it anywhere. I did have it typed in as a Google doc so I just copied it and I will paste it right here for you. I know this makes for a very long message but at least you’ll have it…(I use vanilla extract) ENJOY! Spiced Canned Apple Slices Sweetened with Honey {Canning Recipe} This recipe will make 7 quarts. Ingredients: Apples (approximately 20 pounds) 1 to 1.5 cups honey or cane sugar 1/2 tsp sea salt 3 tsp ground cinnamon 1 tsp apple pie spice seeds from one vanilla bean (optional) How many apples will you need? Remove any air bubbles, adjust lids, and process. The National Center for Home Preserved Food recommends canning these apple slices for 20 minutes (both pints and quarts). @OpenHandFarm I actually have a kitchen aid one that was sent by mistake by Amazon... They still haven't picked it up... I'm thinking about trying it real quick. I noticed many are cutting the end of the apple first so it's flat. Trying that tomorrow but my husband said the cutter is the problem but I'll give it a go. Yeah, I've got 4 apple peeler I've tried now and an antique one that showed up broken. I'm going to try it broken since it still goes around. my husband said watch that one do better than the rest broken ... lol

@sandilane1405

@OpenHandFarm the bestand and kitchenaid are almost identical. the kitchenaid base is chunkier and seems better made but all cutters, etc are being made by the same mfg. There should be an adjustment on the skinner cutter but they had to cheapen its design. :( I ran out of apples and can't try the broken antique peeler yet but I'll get back when I do. I like the fact that it's electric on my mixer and less on the joints but it doesn't leave much on a regular sized apple. Guess I need bigger apples but I'll bet those honey crisp premier apples are too big to fit in between mount and base.
